Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “Why iMac Now?”.
Thank you to tubebuddy for sponsoring a portion of today’s video, hey everyone Travis here and I do have the M3 iMac here. I know I’m late to the party, but as We Know, It’s Not Easy Being Green. So, let’s get into the M3 iMac all right. We got Kermit set up right over here and let’s go over some of my personal thoughts after I’ve got the chance to use this machine, and the tldr is that it is still the best value normal everyday users. Mac value-wise, the iMac is still King. This one comes in at $ 12.99 and it does include a keyboard and mouse, whether you like them or hate them, and if we take this machine and compare it to the next closest thing, which would be a Mac Mini and a 24in LG ultrafine. This is still going to be cheaper. If you take a base model, M2 Mac Mini combine that with a 24in LG ultra fine and a Magic Mouse and magic keyboard, it is going to be 1576, and the more appealing fact to me is the fact that this is an all-in-one versus the Mac. Mini is a separate, Monitor and mini tower, which I think is more appealing to most users, and I do think the unboxing experience as cheesy as this may sound is a crucial part of this experience from pulling that first tab on the box to powering it on.
For the first time and getting through the setup, everything is straightforward and easy, and I think we’ve gotten to the point with some technology, where this kind of stuff is taken for granted even down the small little things like the single power cable, which makes for an Ultra clean setup like on this desk, not only does it make the machine look good, but it also makes the experience much easier for the normal person that doesn’t want a bunch of wires running around and honestly, the user base that this iMac is aimed at probably Isn’T going to move it very often, but it’s a crucial part of the experience someone that’s going to buy. One of these iMacs is going to hang on to it for several years to come, probably 5 to 7 years until they’re needing to get an upgrade. So getting the h out of the way, let’s go ahead and talk about performance now this is the base Bas configuration, so it is an 8 core CPU with an 8 core GPU, of course, with the new M3 chip, and it does have the media engines as Well, as the new neural engines, so most tasks generally just fly. My only warning here is that 8 gigs of RAM could become very limiting, as I mentioned in my 15-in MacBook Air review, which also only comes with a baseline configuration of 8 gigs of RAM.
It is definitely worth it to spend the extra money to get the 16 gigs giving you that room to grow, and I did edit this entire video on this iMac and the only other thing is the fact that the base model only has a 256 GB internal Ssd, which, for any type of content creation, whether you’re storing large video files or photos, could be an issue for some and, in my opinion, the basic user probably won’t find this much of an issue as they’re, probably using some sort of cloud-based solution to store their Photos and videos and another thing: that’s a great solution – is a product from today’s video sponsor tubebuddy tubebuddy is a tool that can offer powerful, analytics and video optimization tools that can increase your workflow as a content creator in turn maximizing traffic on your channel and videos. One of the tools that I find most helpful is the thumbnail analyzer tool utilizing AI this tool, predicts which thumbnail will get the most amount of clicks alongside. That is the AB testing tool which allows you to easily compare and ab different titles and thumbnails. So you can get the best results.
Tubebuddy offers robust analytics and video optimization tools tailored for Content creators, optimizing views, thumbnails and the overall health of a channel is the first step in maximizing and growth of a channel click. The link down below and use the code TLD D30 to get 30 % off of tubebuddy, and thanks again to tubebuddy for sponsoring this portion of today’s video to edit this project. I used the latest version of Final Cut Pro, which just came out recently and that’s 10.7 and I’m shooting on the Sony fx6 in SL log 3 and I stored all the project files on a Samsung T9 external SSD. Here we are with the M3 iMac and using it for a little while completing this entire video project that you’re watching right now and to be honest, it was better than I expected for it being the base model, but I would still recommend getting 16 gigs of Ram as that upgrade, if you do plan to do any sort of content creation, I did double check to see how much RAM we were using and we exceeded 8 gigs of RAM usage going into swap, which means that you’re going to start borrowing virtual memory from Your SSD, which is much slower and considering the fact that this is the base model SSD.
It also is only 256 gigs and it’s slower than the 512 gig model in terms of read and WR spe speeds. So, if you’re using this for everyday stuff – and you want to do some content creation here and there it’s definitely more than powerful enough and if you’re going to be doing this stuff on the daily, definitely get that 16 gigs of RAM upgrade now putting M3 through Its Paces, I feel like it’s more than enough than what a standard user would need out of a CPU and GPU combo. Now with some quick benchmarks, I’m not going to go into anything crazy and I don’t want to bore anybody with the numbers, but geekbench scored. Just over 3,000 on the single core, which is really good, and just over 12,000 on the multicore T, which is also very good now, let’s go over features of this machine and the most notable one here is the 24in 4.5k display.
Now this display is not new. It is the same one from the M1 iMac that came out in 2021, but it is fantastic. Colors pop it’s bright, it looks fantastic for movies, and text is razor sharp. My only complaint with this display is the fact that it doesn’t come in a larger size.
Like a 27 or a 30in, in my opinion, a 27in version of this machine would be utterly fantastic and it would be very similar to the 15 and 13in MacBook airs having a 24 and 27 in regular iMac, even if it had the same internals with M3 And all the other features – and it just had a larger higher resolution display that would be awesome. The speakers, camera and microphones are all fantastic, considering the fact that this isn’t a chassis that is thinner than the original iPhone. This is a quick test of the microphones and the camera built into the M3 iMac and honestly, it actually looks pretty good using Soma’s portrait lighting and portrait mode. It actually adds a little bit of depth and the lighting looks better than it would if it didn’t, and you can definitely tell there’s a little bit of processing going on.
But the image overall looks pretty good, and hopefully it sounds good too, and when you look around back with the classic line that Steve would always say, the back of their machine looks better than the front of the other guys there’s only two Thunderbolt 4 ports and A single headphone jack on the side and if you do need more ports than that there is the next model up, which offers some other things too. With the middle tier model, you gain two extra USBC ports, other exterior color options. Two additional GPU cores Touch ID on the keyboard and ethernet that’s built into the power brick all for $ 200 extra and additionally, if you add in 16, gigs of RAM, like I mentioned before, if you plan on keeping this for a while and dabbling into some Content creation that we get your price up to $ 16.99 now this extra $ 400 on top of the base model could be a little bit of a tossup depending on what the user is looking to do with the machine. If this Mac is going to be implemented in the most utmost basic of setups, where it’s going to be used for web browsing emails documents and content consumption, the $ 1299 model is perfect.
Those tasks at this point are super simple and honestly, any of the Apple silicon Macs that Apple’s made can handle those without a sweat. But if you’re thinking about getting into some content creation, like some photo editing or video editing or your workload, is a little bit more multitasking forward, you may want to consider getting that middle model with the 16 gigs of RAM to add more value down the line. Now this all begs the question: why iMac – and I think the answer to this is simple: well, it’s actually that it’s simple. This machine is the deao Mac experience through and through starting at the purchase of the machine, picking it up the unboxing experience, the setup, experience and the life of the machine.
It is super simple and the iMac has become the most popular all-in-one because it set the standard 25 years ago with the main goal of being a simple machine to use for the everyday user. And I think anybody that’s looking to switch to a Mac or they’re. Looking to upgrade from an older Mac is going to love this machine. Everything that you need to get set up is in the box. Ready to go performance is great and it looks fantastic, no matter where you put it and yes, we do have the Mac Mini as an entry-level alternative to getting a desktop Mac. But it’s much more convoluted as you need to get all the components separately and, depending on your BYO dkm, could make the experience much more broken boo dkm. It means bring your own display, keyboard and mouse. Okay, we Supply the computer comp, you supply the rest.
Ultimately, the M3 chip adds on to what was already a great Mac with the M1 version of this redesigned iMac and if Apple could make a Super. Saiyan version of this exact same machine we’d be golden comment Down Below on your experience with an iMac, whether it’s New or Old, and what you think of these new M3 machines. Thank you so much for watching this is Travis and have a good night. .
