Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “Were The Pixel 3 Rumors True!?”.
We’Re at the Google pixel event here in New York and I have in my hand the new pixel 3 and pixel 3 Excel like before they’re the exact same phone. They have the same, internals same Ram, same storage, same cameras, same body. The only difference is the size and the screen. As you can see, this one is slightly smaller this one, slightly bigger 5.5 inch screen on this guy 6.3 inch screen on this guy and the presence of that wonderful, enormous notch, mmm delicious yeah yeah, it’s like yeah.
You just took a chunk out of it. That’S why it’s there’s a lot of thoughts about it. I don’t think delicious. Come! Oh hey man, that’s my truth! I’M living it speaking of internals. The one thing that Google didn’t really talk about in the event was the actual internals, so they didn’t talk about what system-on-a-chip its running, how much RAM I’m at storage? The one thing that they did mention about the internals is the pixel core imaging chip. So that’s going to assist with the machine learning software side of making the photos really really nice. One of the software tweaks that they did talk about was a hdr type of mode where it takes a burst of photos and selects the best one. The feature that they’re talking about there is top shot, so the system will automatically suggest to you which shot is the best it’ll determine which who’s smiling or who’s making horrible horrible faces. You can find tune to yourself, but the system will provide you suggestions.
They’Ve also made adjustments to the way that low light works. They’Ve got a feature called night sight, which they say basically completely destroys the iPhone 10 asses low-light ability they even had a dedicated slide for that in the event, which was quite rude, typing input fair enough. Another thing that they shaded the iPhone on was the wideness of their selfie cam, so you’ll notice that previous pixel generation one camera on the back one camera on the front.
These pixels have one camera on the back and two cameras on the front, and that’s because it’s being used for their group, selfie cam feature which apparently will allow you to get selfies that are a hundred and eighty four percent wider than the iPhone 10 essence selfie. So the widest selfies, this side of the Mississippi now the other huge stand up feature for pixel 3 and pixel 3 XL. Is that they’re going to get duplex google’s AI calling feature when that launches they’re going to be the first to get that? But until that comes you can use a feature called call screen and what that does is screens calls. So you get a call while you’re in the middle of something you don’t want to answer it it’ll pop up, saying: oh, you want to call screen. Okay, yeah and Google assistant will talk to the person by a text and ask them why they’re calling you and the reason they can type in the reason why they’re calling you and it’ll show up on screen.
So it’s basically a built-in telemarketer defense, which is pretty awesome, and one thing that I forgot to mention is that the back looks like it’s, not glass, but guess what you got fooled because it’s glass there’s a mat and a glossy finish. But there’s actually the entire piece is one solid piece of glass, so that allows them to add wireless charging. One thing that a lot of people are sorely missing with and wireless charging allows them to make the super cool pixel stand, which we’re going to talk about. Oh and they still got the squeeze to activate Google assistant feature which I’m not used to, because I’m not used to squeezing phones and having things actually happen.
So the pixel 3 and 3 XL is going to come in just black, clearly white and not pink, which is think bit confusing and it’s gon na start at $ 7.99. Obviously, that’s for the pixel 3 at the base configuration, so they didn’t actually talk about how much this one is yet, but I assume it’s more so another product that Google has unveiled this year is the pixel slate. So last year they had the pixel book. That was kind of a laptop tablet thing.
It was mostly mostly a laptop and it was trying to also be a tablet and ended up kind of being, not a super great version of either of those product categories. So what Google has done is it’s gon na double down on the tablet angle. So slate is one point: seven millimeters thin one point six pounds and it does kind of feel like it would be. A great tablet experience: that’s what they’ve really centered it towards dual front firing speakers on the front: a 293 pixels per square inch, which amounts to six million pixels overall, which apparently is the highest amount pixels in this category large tablet category.
I guess it’s got two USB ports, one on either side and a fingerprint reader on the top, which also doubles as the power button, no headphone jack, but it comes with a dongle in the box and eight megapixel cameras on the front and back now. This is something interesting that they’ve done with a pixel they’re kind of bringing the pixel phone camera technology onto tablets. So it’s going to use machine learning software to kind of try and give that same portrait experience that we’ve had in the pixel. So we, it remains to be seen how good it will actually perform, how well it will perform, but it’s exactly see them bring that technology into something else other than so.
Of course, the pixel slate isn’t just a tablet: they’re releasing this keyboard with it. It’S an automatic pairing with the golden connectors on the bottom, so you just slide it in and it’ll instantly recognize and once it’s in the keyboard dock, you can slide it along so that it can be adjusted to be at any angle. They say it’s infinitely adjustable, although it does lock at the top of bottom, so it’s not quite infinite guest. Let’S be serious and Google says that they have retooled Chrome OS to work even better for a desktop and a mobile experience.
So you can now snap windows from to either side, so it’s a little better for productivity and they have reworked the UI for bead to be more a little more touch friendly as well for the mobile site. The slate is supposed to get you 10 hours of battery life and it starts at $ 5.99. This year last year it started at $ 9.99. The pixel book started at $ 9.99.
So that’s a pretty big jump and it’s nice to see them kind of addressing the fact that the pixel book was maybe a little too expensive for what it was. The keyboard is $ 1.99 and the pen is $ 99, so those will all be available soon. Unfortunately, just like the pixel 3 phones, they didn’t actually talk much about what the internal specs are, but I’m sure we’ll find out very soon. It’S a lot smaller than I thought it would be for all the leaks from all the photos it looked like.
It was like a Google max with a screen on it, but that’s not what it is. It’S very, it’s very tiny. It looks like it’s like.
Maybe a 7 inch 8 inch screen. This is the Google home hub and it’s basically what it sounds like. It’S a Google home with a screen on it, so it’s gon na do all the things that your Google home does and a bit more you’re going to be able to use those normal Google Apps to use.
But apparently Google has redesigned the app interfaces to make it a little easier for families to use it in kind of obviously the home setting in the kitchen in the living room and that play area what homes have I live in an apartment now one thing that You’Ll notice is that there’s no camera on this thing you’d think that a device like this would be used for family video calls, but that’s not gon na happen, so it’s good for privacy. If some people, you could say that that means that it’s spying on you less, but it’s not so good for video calling. Obviously, so that’s an interesting choice of Google made and just like the other homes, it has the ok, Google detection switch. So you can tell it not to listen. Sometimes the home hub apparently has a few smart features that make just make sense when you think about it like when you your nest, doorbell will bring your camera enabled doorbell. The home hub will automatically show the feed from that it will have parental controls.
So kids just can’t go on there and look up anything. They want willy-nilly those kids and when no one’s using it at all, it’ll be in live album mode, which means that it’ll go through your Google photos or if you can choose albums that it will go through or you can say hey. I want to show pictures of Jim Billy and Sarah and your Google photos will automatically create an album with those people in it. So you can always look at the pretty faces of your family and friends. You can pre-order the Google home hub now for 149 and at a launch October, 22nd, everywhere else, and that live album mode will also be on the pixel 3 when you set it into the pixel charging stand.
So when you dock your pixel, those essentially act like a mini Google Home Hub, which is already mini more mini than we thought it would be just he’s rolling wow what a special moment apologizing for ruining your video yeah. You really did good riddance. I thought I was his favorite, I mean he just met me.
Well guys, that’s a quick look at what Google announced today at the made by Google event here in New York. It was very exciting was my first event. It was tech league’s first on location event.
