Unnecessarily High Five

Unnecessarily High Five

Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “Unnecessarily High Five”.
My name is jason haber and i’m part of the unnecessarily high five, so the unnecessarily high five is an art project that we brought, that has mannequin arms dangling at progressively higher heights and it challenges participants to come and see how high of a five they can Give the highest five is unnecessarily high. Nobody has ever hit the highest five uh. Well, my my friends and i who we call ourselves the irresponsible dads of alameda, decided that we wanted to create an art project that uh would allow people to interact with it and just have a lot of fun. We were brainstorming some ideas and then we thought about the fact that how many high fives people give and how some high fives are totally unnecessary, and we said you know what let’s build an unnecessarily high five: let’s build a device to help these people give higher Fives and give the highest five they can give, and – and we wondered how high could we make the highest five and we’ve definitely made it to the point that it’s never been hit. So once we decided what kind of device we wanted to build, uh, we toured some mannequin arms and we found some flat-palmed mannequin arms which are sort of the the the golden arm of a high five. And so we took those arms and we decided and we used those as sort of the bases for the whole whole device. And when you look at it really, the way that it’s put together is it’s built of a two by six frame that that, where all the arms are dangling from and the arms are connected to the frame using some conduit and connected to them in a very Special secret way, in addition to that we’ve actually this year for maker faire, we added some light blue beans that we’re using as our sensors that are wireless bluetooth, sensors with accelerometers to track how frequently each high five has been hit, and then i’m taking that data Into the node-red software and i’m analyzing it and creating a living infographic.

Unnecessarily High Five

Well, initially, we built the honestly high five to bring to burning man, but we decided to bring it to maker faire the next year and and we really loved having it in maker faire. It brings it to a different type of audience, brings it to a lot more kids and a lot younger audience, and i personally love seeing kids interact with it, love watching the smiles on their faces, as they try to hit the highest fives this year. We actually added a new arm we’re calling arm zero. That’S the high five for everybody, it’s extra low, because we had a lot of small children who were trying to hit the lowest hand, and it was just way out of reach.

So this year we decided we wanted to add an arm for them, but it’s notably lower than the others. So .
