One of the biggest thing that nobody saw coming was the importance of having a good webcam a setup. A good live streaming, a setup, a dedicated computer camera, and what we’re going to focus on is exactly that in this article. We’Re going to be taking a look at six dedicated webcams, as well as taking a look at a common webcam that you would find on a popular laptop like the 2020 macbook air and kind of comparing the video quality and audio quality of all of these popular Webcams, so, if you’re interested in seeing, which is the best webcam out there in terms of what’s currently available in the popular market, let’s get right into it and find out okay.
So, let’s actually talk about the specific webcams that we have in this lineup, starting with the latest from logitech, which is the stream cam. This is a 1080p 60 frames per second camera. It has a maximum aperture of f2 and a focal range about 3.7 millimeters with a field of view about 78 degrees. So it’s fairly good in terms of low light.
The color rendition on it is also very good, as you’ll see from our video comparison. You also have dual omni directional: noise cancellation microphones. This webcam is really optimized for twitch streamers, gamers people who do a lot of live streaming and since it has great color rendition and great low light performance, it’s also awesome for chroma key. If you want to use green screens and delete your background and be completely immersed in your content, uh, which is going to be great for again live stream purposes.
In fact, the logitech capture software is actually a pretty easy way, uh to do chroma key and live streaming within a logitech’s own uh software suite, which is nice if you’re not going to use a third-party application for broadcasting. Another big highlight on the stream cam is at the mount very versatile to clamp on to any style of monitor and the camera. Housing can actually be mounted in a couple of different orientations.
If you want a little bit more of a portrait style capture rather than landscape, if you want a little bit more vertical real estate, next we’re going to talk about the logitech brio, which has been around for a while now. But it’s the only a webcam that can actually do 4k native capture, and that is specifically 4096×20 160 at 30 frames per second now. The field of view on this camera is also wider than most webcams.
You have a 90 degree field of view which is going to get you a nice wider shot. If you so desire, you can also go for a more closer standard field of view, if you so wish, which is a nice flexible option on this webcam now beyond. Just the 4k capturing capabilities, there’s also an array of optical infrared sensors inside the brio, allowing you to use official recognition, software quicker and more efficient. So if you use your webcam to unlock your pc with facial recognition, such as in the case with windows, hello, the brio definitely has an advantage there. Now, due to the bandwidth limitations that 4k imposes, you can also capture 1080p at 60 frames per second, if you want to reduce your bandwidth or increase your frame rate to 60 frames per second to match, perhaps a gaming live stream, or something like that. Next, we’re going to talk about the logitech c922 pro stream cam.
This was basically the predecessor of the new stream cam that we have, where you have 720p capturing capabilities at 60 frames per. Second, you can also do 1080p at 30 frames per second, and now probably one of the most popular logitech webcams out. There is the c920 which i did 30 frames per second at 720p, but it also did 1080p at 30 frames per second, and most records of the c922 and 920 are pretty much identical besides 720p at 60 frames per second now we’re going to talk about. Probably my favorite webcam that i’ve had for almost a decade now and that’s the microsoft lifecam studio.
This is actually one of the first generation 1080p webcams at 30 frames per. Second, it has the standard field of view of 78 degrees and also uh stereo microphones as well. It does a great job in pretty much every lighting situation that you go to find yourself in, and it’s really optimized for a lot of video conferencing as well as live streaming purpose. It’S a great overall camera and another highlight is at the mount it’s on a ball joint, so it’s very flexible in getting the right perspective in the right angle and the mount itself can be mounted to any monitor, laptop or tripod. We’Re going to see how this 10 year old, webcam actually stacks up against the newer 1080p cameras in a little bit now. I also wanted to take this opportunity to test out the quality and performance of a standard built in a laptop webcam, specifically on the 2020 macbook air camera on this thing is very similar to a lot of the a macbook eyesight or facetime at cameras you’re.
Looking at 720p at 30 frames per second, lastly, just for fun, i’m also going to throw in the dynex 720p webcam. This thing is over 15 years old, it’s probably the worst webcam that you can find out there right now, and even some of the cheaper webcams that you’re going to find on ebay and amazon are probably going to deliver a little bit better quality than this, because This thing records at 15 frames per second at around a sub 720p resolution. Okay. So, coming back to the topic at hand, we’re gon na actually take a look at the video quality coming out of each of these webcams we’re gon na start with kind of the worst of the few and then go towards some of the higher end. Webcams. To see how the video quality compares okay, so we’re going to start with possibly the worst camera on the planet, and that is the dynex 1.3 megapixel webcam.
This thing i’ve had for over 15 years and if you want to know what youtube looked like when it first came out in 2005, this is the kind of video quality you can expect. Sub 720p 43 aspect ratio with 15 glorious frames per second pretty terrible, and the microphone on this thing is equally as bad. That’S why i’m using the blue yeti for the audio, but the video quality is only going to get better from here. Next, we have the built-in facetime camera on the 2020 macbook air.
Now this is a premium grade laptop but, as you can see from the webcam quality, definitely not that great 720p at 30 frames per second, but the biggest problem i have with this camera is it’s very noisy we’re in fairly good lighting situation over here. It’S artificial because i want to get even good light in general, but still a lot of noise, and this is a very bad camera. Nonetheless – and it’s only going to get better from here – and you can see why a lot of people go towards buying at a dedicated webcam, even if they are not using it on our desktop and they want to actually get better video quality than what’s built into Even higher end laptop like what we have over here, so let’s move on now. What you’re looking at right now is the logitech c922 pro stream cam.
This came out several years back. You can do 1080p at 30 frames per second, but it’s big selling feature over the s 920, which is super popular even to this date from logitech, was the fact that you can do 720p at 60 frames per second. So a lot of gamers really liked it. For that reason – and it still is a very popular uh webcam but you’re, specifically looking at the 1080p capabilities at 30 frames per second now. The webcam that you’re looking at right now is probably the most popular office, specific webcams that has ever been released, and it’s been around for more than 10 years, but it can still do 1080p at 30 frames per second, as well as 720p at 30 frames per. Second – and this is at the microsoft, lifecam studio and uh – basically one of the really nice things about this camera is.
You can see that the lighting is really even. It does a great job of managing its auto exposure and does a great job in terms of focusing as well so great flexible camera and even being more than a decade. Old uh still has decent video quality in 1080p. Now, what you’re looking at is the logitech stream cam. This is the latest uh webcam from logitech, certainly the newest.
In this lineup. I can do 1080p at 60 frames per. Second, you have the same kind of microphone style, omnidirectional dual facing microphones, with noise cancellation, as the prio about what you are going to notice is that the field of view is a little bit narrower 78 degrees versus debris was 90 degrees. That’S probably mostly due to the fact that this is designed for kind of gamers who want mostly just close-up reaction shots and the logitech capture. Software can actually do a lot of chroma keying.
If you want to delete out the background, this is optimized for less players out there. You probably want to get a better microphone for the most part, but definitely not a bad overall webcam, especially if you want to get good 60 frames per second at 1080p. Okay, so now what you’re looking at is the logitech brio. This is the only 4k dedicated webcam that we have in this lineup.
It can shoot a maximum video resolution of 4096 by 2160. You can also do the standard uh ultra hd resolution of 3840×20 at 30 frames per. Second, you can shoot 1080p at 60 frames per second in terms of microphones.
We have dual omnifacing uh noise, suppressing microphones and in terms of what this thing can deliver. You also have hdr high dynamic range, capturing capabilities and a little bit better low light of performance as well. So in terms of the maximum video resolution and overall image quality. This is probably the best dedicated webcam that we have in this lineup. Okay.
So what you’re? Looking at is my panasonic g7, with the sigma 18 to 35 f, 1.8 lens uh, we’re using the blue yeti microphone for capturing my voice or audio, and you can actually use this as a full live streaming or slash video conferencing setup. You can simply use any 1080p capture card and go hdmi into the camera. You can also get uh something like the elgato hd 60s that we’re specifically using or you can even get their new 4k version if you want to live stream or video conference in 4k. But this is basically uh the best kind of most control that you’re going to get with your live streaming, slash a video conferencing set up with a dedicated camera and a dedicated microphone, but really on that guys.
