Thud Rumble on making DJ hardware

Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “Thud Rumble on making DJ hardware”.
Hey i’m donald bell here at makercon 2015., i’m here joined by yoga frog from thud rumble and rich from thunder. Thud rumble can’t get the it’s it’s a tongue to twister yeah. It’S mixing it up! It’S like a dj scratch in my mouth right now. You got to be very fast yeah, but you were scratching up on the stage just a minute ago. Rich was oh yeah.

He was yeah. All right now. Tell me about what brings you guys here to makercon, i mean what what were you demoing up there for people who who didn’t have the privilege of seeing it live on stage? We were demoing laptopless djing, so we’re eliminating the laptop out of the equation, and now a dj with his two turntables and mixer can just go straight in with a intel technology. Edison right you’re, not taking it back old school you’re, not going back to the original vinyl. How are we getting rid of the laptop you are just plugging in straight in now, um and and you’re on, you know, you’re, you you’re, actually having all your files embedded in to the mixer and turntable console itself, no more need for a laptop, so the intel Chip is doing the processing, it’s running your software, and maybe i saw maybe in one of the videos there’s like a little display up there. Just so, you still got a taste of what what the files you’re working with uh in the future, or now we actually can do it.

We, we we just put a little monitor a little screen just to see, what’s exactly happening and we made it multi-touch touch. So you can actually work it now, so that cool feature would be awesome for djs in the immediate right. So this is kind of like the uh taking virtual instruments, virtual the virtualized software of djing or music making, but bringing the hardware with it and around a really tight little package. That’S really tightly integrated with the the instruments and and the the turntables, and all that exactly you got it. We’Ve also gotten the latency down by doing so, because we have less overhead um on an operating system, stripping away all the craft, all the extra stuff and just getting right to the right to the software.

That’S right! So we also brought a data driven turntable with sensors sensor on the bottom of the pattern, a sensor on the top, an optical sensor on top of the platter and then another sensor for the tone arm. And this actually uh makes the turntable a total data instrument that you can transcribe scratches, see musical notes of scratches so the sky’s, the limit with the more sensors on the turntable and now was i wrong that that that allowed you to play even like an old Analog record and use that, like a time code record both yeah both you have that feature now with flip of switch or actually at the same time too yeah that’s a big deal well, thank you guys for joining us here at makercon really excited to see what What comes out of this thud rumble pay attention to them. It’S going to be really interesting to see how these uh, the collaboration with intel, takes hold in the dj world.
