People are talking about how this crazy little tiny little laptop, was able to pack in so many different ports and all of a sudden, you started hearing this name that I hadn’t heard in so long vile. Well, you didn’t know this. My very first laptop violin, yeah honestly yeah wait like a hundred pounds. Oh yeah good for you. I had begged for it. I said to my parents: I’m going to have a future in this realm. They were like no you’re, not well we’ll get you the laptop. That’S back when viola was a part of Sony, so a quick history lesson here, no longer a part of Sony, so let’s go ahead and see why everyone was talking about this guy.
First things: first whoa, you want give me a weight. Readout on that will very light. They tout it as one point: nine nine pounds, one point: nine nine pounds and we’ll he’s used the word touted today yeah, so we just, let’s put a little check mark if you were waiting for that. We have that now in the episode something has been touted look at this look at that.
It’S a feather. It’S making my x1 carbon feel heavy right. Now that looks like an SD card slot. It is that is a USB, a port, that’s a type C port. I see the Thunderbolt icon logo next to it full size, HDMI, Ethernet jack, that’s a VGA port. I haven’t seen those in a while and we’re not even done yet. We go to the other side. Now, two more USB a s and a headphone chetak.
It’S all in a thing is one point: nine nine pounds. One thing this one has which my carbon does not is an SD card reader, and I use that so this is even more versatile than that haven’t even opened it. Yet, let’s just charge brick pretty portable. That’S for sure – and I just noticed it’s also got another USB – a port on it, nice little touch and then the extension cable, very straightforward. You know if you bought a laptop in 2006, five cardboard in all your life accessories.
Let’S go! You know I like this. This matte black kind of finish: does it get fingerprints, not crazy terrible? But you know with any matte finish: it’s a possibility. Oh Jack.
You cut that action boom. You see that natural kind of angle, ergonomic angle, that happens there whew the quick brown fox. Well, the fox is jumping so as they do as the Fox would it’s close actually to a desktop typing experience on a thin and ultra portable laptop I could live. I could live it’s not too loud.
I could live, I could breathe. I could live. Eight generation Intel processors – it is a twelve inch display, so you can see, there’s there’s a bit of a forehead on there.
There is a glimpse at the matte display. What’S the resolution will 1920 by 1080, so it’s 1920 by 1080 at 12 inches. That should be fine. You have a decent facial density at the rings, are gon na be at here the price point it starts around 1200 bucks.
So keep that in mind. It’S for a person it’s for a very specific customers for somebody who wants tons of versatility. It’S so tough to put in perspective.
Like I have uh, I have the iPad pro at home, the small one that things about a pound on its own. This is one point: nine, nine, a MacBook Air, three pounds: x1 carbon, two-and-a-half, it’s a half a pound lighter than that it’s making almost anything in a laptop department feel heavy to me at this point. It has a fingerprint scanner on it as well over here.
It’S right there I like how on a keyboard, they kept it simple, even though some of the keys had to shrink down like the shift key over here on the left and the directional keys they’re, all where you expect them to be and there’s enough space around Them to make sure you’re hitting the key that you want to hit the trackpad, even though it’s small feels pretty good these buttons, though I mean, maybe if you’re looking for a click, but it’s a pretty loud click on the button again. For me, that’s kind of a throwback. They managed to fit something important up their little camera in that territory.
I’M a little concerned about the speaker performance on this thing. You know it’s something that I would normally check. There’S one thing I learned doing this job Willie. Do you can’t have it all? No, you got to give you tape. Mm-, you plus you mm-. You have the appetizer, you skip the dessert, you got to pay the piper.
What does that mean by the way who’s the piper bear the consequences of an action or activity that one has enjoyed? Yeah you got to pay the piper you got to give somewhere and it’s obvious they gave it a speaker Department, the display I could live with. It’S actually, this is a very bright environment, so it’s got some decent output. So I think it’s a cool little package, this one at 1,200 bucks puts it in a particular price. Category was not really a budget laptop, but it’s not as premium as some of the specifications. I’Ve looked at in the x1 Department. It’S it finds itself somewhere in the middle.
But if you just want, like the lightest thing, you can get that you can carry with you every day and never have to worry about possibly interfacing with some external peripheral. I don’t know that.
