The Truth about Huawei P20 Pro - REAL Review

Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “The Truth about Huawei P20 Pro – REAL Review”.
Okay, I’ve been using this phone since before the launch, and I’ve now spent just enough time with it to give you the verdict, but go as far to say that the huawei P 20 pro is one of the most interesting ferns we’ve seen in the last three Years so welcome to the real review. One thing worth knowing before we dive head-on into this is where the phone fits into the market price-wise. To give an idea in terms of pounds, the p20 Pro can be heard for $ 7.99, which makes it a fair bit cheaper than the iPhone 10 at $ 9.99, while the s9 at 8, 6 9. But at the same time, it’s far from a value oriented handset: you can get the top tier 1 5 t for just $ 4.99 okay. So the company has made a huge deal about the camera here and it’s DxO mark score is off the charts.

So is it tens across the board well right off the bat you’ll notice, a few things, the extremely fast shutter speeds three times optical zoom, which lets you take clear photos from much further away and the suspect is pretty much better than every main line flagship phone. It’S also got top-notch low-light performance seriously. This beats pretty much every phone before it. Nighttime mode uses the artificial intelligence capabilities of the phone to further reduce noise and make it look like the phone was stabilized when taking it and aside from the slightly too aggressive bokeh effect. Portrait mode is also very good clean. Looking photos snapped quickly and it can also take 40 megapixel photos.

That’S over twice the resolution of its closest rivals. So surely surely quawi has truly taken the crown this time. Well, these 40 megapixel photos are more detailed than say the s 9 plus, but not by as much as the number might lead you to believe. Even though the sensor is about twice the sizes that, on the s 9, you still come across limitations at this resolution. Also, you can’t use the zoom in this mode and you also have to pay the price of photos taking much longer to capture.

So, for this reason, are we actually sets 10 megapixel as the default and you’ll probably find? This is what you keep coming back to, while we also uses AI to detect the scene, you’re in and add, color and contrast accordingly, which sometimes can actually work really well, but I’ve just found myself turning it off and coloring my photos myself. You could have spent an entire minute, setting up a photo only for the phone to suddenly realize there’s a blue sky Anette and completely change the color profile with even sprinting, while holding the phone resulting in stable footage. This is really one of the best stabilizations we’ve seen on a phone, but when you scale that up to 4k, which really is the current and almost an expectation of a phone in 2018, the stabilization drops off a cliff and it goes from one of the best Flagships in this area to one of the worst so as a verdict on the camera, it’s very good. The low-light capabilities are impressive and the zoom Trump’s almost all the competition, but I would refrain from saying outstanding because in the end, you’ll probably find yourself taking ten megapixel photos rather than 40 having mixed feelings about the color grading and definitely not enjoying the 4k video Stabilization side note: the front camera is okay, it takes high-resolution images, but does do a little bit too much face modification, even when beauty mode is off. Some people might like this because I’ve got to say it makes you look good, but the purists among you will definitely not appreciate how far this is from accurate. Also, the front-facing portrait mode isn’t even close to Google’s pixel okay, but aside from the camera, the p20 Pro has four more very interesting aspects to it: the body the battery the software and the display in terms of body, the p20 pro is again a sweet-and-sour ordeal, Forgetting for a second, the resemblance to the iPhone 10, I think the color combo is audacious. I like it, although this one, the twilight version, won’t be for everyone, but there are other subtler color combinations to choose from, and the body itself feels premium while still being slimmer and lighter than phones like the s9 plus. It’S not wins all round, though someone liked the similarities to apples offering and the p20 pro has skipped. The headphone jack doesn’t have wireless charging and only has ip67 water resistance compared to IP 68 on those sort of flagships and fingerprints are a problem, and the fingerprints are more frustrating on this phone than ever, because you can just tell that Huawei have poured so much Time and love into creating this glimmering finish, and yet I’ve never needed to use a case on a fern.

More and another kind of annoying aspect to this device is that when it’s lying flat on a table every time you tap the top-left corner the phone wobbles. You might have also noticed the fingerprint scanner is on the front, which is a dying trend among large screen phones like this and when you’re using it, you kind of realize why, if you have huge hands, this is less of a problem, but from my testing and The three other people I showed it to it’s a bit too much of a stretch when unlocking, but what is nice is that the phone gives you flexibility. If you want navigation keys, you can have them. If you want more screen real estate, you can disable them and use this button. Slash scanner for all three commands. I’Ve also got a nippy face, unlock feature which I did find myself defaulting to just because of the finger gymnastics.

You’Ve got to do just to get to the home button, so in terms of the overall external, build safe to say it’s good, but as before. Definitely not without compromise, but battery is truly excellent. Huawei has created the winning combination of long-lasting 2-day battery life.

If you want more detail on that, you can check out my battery drain test and fast charging that puts Samsung and Apple to shame software. There is a lot to say about software. The phone is running on emui 8.1, which is based on the latest Android 8.1, and in that sense it’s great.

I was expecting 8.0, but the fact they’ve got the most recent version on day. One means they’re ahead of the game, but whilst this year’s Android 8.1, you can probably tell it doesn’t really look like it’s. Emui is hallways own skin on Android the same way Samsung has Samsung experience or HTC has HTC Sense, but I’m not even sure.

If at this point we can really call EMU iose skin in the p20 Pro it is ingrained into pretty much everything you do. It’S almost a separate version of Android altogether. Huawei has pre-installed a lot of Google Apps, as well as their own first party apps. So there’s a fair bit of bloat on the phone when you get it now. The first party apps here are easy to dismiss in favor of Google’s alternatives, but surprisingly they’re visually pleasing and some like the translator, actively used the AI functionality to retrieve results, offline and faster than with Google Translate, and this whole AI thing.

You could have probably made a drinking game out of how many times, while we said ai during their presentation. But what’s the deal here well, a big part of it is seen in the camera, but the phone does also use machine learning to figure out the apps. You use the most it dynamically dedicates, more resources to them, and this will adjust over time as your usage does so. The company claims this means your phone will not only start fast, but also it stay fast for the two to three years.

You plan to use it on a subject of speed. We’Ve got plenty of RAM for multi husking and the phone day-to-day feels very fast, but here’s the issue, the huawei p20 pro is powered by the Kiran 970, a chip that falls Way behind current generation phones. Whilst in some cases you can see the AI helping the p20 pro to keep up, and it definitely opens applications quickly in most third-party apps, when you actually in them and using them, it is beaten. I wouldn’t let this alone be a deciding factor, though, because the Kiran 917 is still a capable chip, and the differences between this and the snapdragon 845, for example, will only really emerge when playing intensive 3d games or editing photos and videos professionally.

So it is a good chip, but it’s just not a great chip, and personally, I do think that no matter how good the camera or the software of a phone is having the latest internals is almost a prerequisite calling a phone current gen every year. Processors are becoming more efficient, more powerful and are opening up doors to better connectivity and a higher-quality camera experience. The reason this phone doesn’t do 4k 60 is because of its last generation chipset.

So you can already see the bottlenecks. This is causing ok display, which, on paper, sounds like a very strange and exciting ordeal. It’S got a 6.1 inch unusual 18 point: seven to nine aspect: ratio unusual, 20 to 40 by 1080p resolution, again strange AMOLED panel. But honestly, whilst all this sounds very new and exciting, what it translates to is just a slightly above average viewing experience, solid levels of brightness and fairly vivid colors. It falls short the s9 here by quite a long way in terms of brightness colors resolution and the p20 pro also misses out on the curved nature of that phone’s display, which definitely adds to immersion and, of course, we’ve also got that polarizing knotch.

But honestly Huawei has made the best of it and not too smaller than with many other phones. The icons are split between either side and almost every app works in full screen. Thanks to the software, you even got the option to disable it. If you really really didn’t like it, and that just adds a black bar across the top, what is cool about? The display is like, with a lot of things on this phone.

You’Ve got a lot of flexibility. You can even do things like automatically adjust color temperature and lower resolution even further if you need more battery life, it’s good to have these options, but in summary, for the display it does sound interesting, but it just ends up being one of the more forgettable aspects Of this phone all right aside from all this, we do have an improved dual speaker setup. This is definitely a leap above any previous hallway phone and it brings it more into line with what other manufacturers are doing. There are no SD cards, though, but I wouldn’t consider this a problem because 128 gigabytes of internal storage is standard of which over 110 is available. So in summary, the p20 pro is one of the most ambitious phones we’ve ever seen. It is a cheaper device than most of its competitors, but in no way feels like it and in some aspects it is raising the bar for what to expect from a mobile phone camera battery and design wise. It is a jump not just for Huawei, but for the entire smartphone game. Some aspects are definitely underwhelming like the video recording or the older chip inside and the AI integration is still not really a game changer, but don’t let this sway your opinion of the device.

The Huawei p20 pro is good, surprisingly good, alright guys, I really hope you enjoyed this video and if you did, if you could smash the subscribe button down below, I would really mean a lot to me and without being said, my name is Aaron. This is mr. he’s the boss and signing out you .
