The Most Versatile 4K IPS Monitor - LG32UN880 ERGO Review

Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “The Most Versatile 4K IPS Monitor – LG32UN880 ERGO Review”.
This monitor is more flexible than my wife. Look at this look. How fluid everything is the swivel height adjustment. I mean she can learn a few things from this. What’S happening guys, i’m techsource and today i’m gon na be reviewing quite possibly the most interesting monitor i’ve ever seen.

This is lg’s new ultrafine display ergo, it’s a 32 inch. 4K ips monitor they’re, calling it ergo because it comes with this amazing built-in ergonomic stand and if you’re stuck at home or if you’re, a content, creator looking to upgrade or pick up a new monitor, then this might be interesting to you as well. So i built myself a little laptop powered productivity setup and i’ve been using the monitor at the office for a little over a week. Now and now i’m ready to review it for the channel to start off. The installation is super easy, just slap on the clamp to your desk and snap. The monitor right on the stand.

You don’t need any unnecessary tools to get this up and running. The clamp will support desks up to 3.5 inches of thickness. Now that is the easiest installation method. However, if you’re rocking a desk that doesn’t have a raised edge, then you can use method number two in which you would have to drill a hole in the desk and use the provided grommet to secure it from the bottom of the desk. The monitor comes with a power cable with a massive power brick, but i like how they included an extension cable as well, which is something i’ve never seen before. If your power outlet is far away from your monitor and the standard power cable can’t reach it, you can use the extension cable to give you an extra two feet of length. You also provide an hdmi, cable and a usb type-c, but i was surprised to find out that it didn’t include a displayport cable for some reason. Why? For cable management, you can remove the top cap of the ergo arm and run the wires through the neck piece and out the bottom, which is pretty cool honestly.

If lg can sell this monitor mount separately and have it work with their entire monitor lineup, it will be a game changer, no doubt with the built-in arm. You guys can adjust the angle or position of the monitor literally any way you want without any effort and the best part is you don’t need any type of tool to adjust the tension of the arm because it comes pre-configured. With this monitor, i mean honestly, i can play with this the entire day. Look how easy it is just slide the monitor around. It’S awesome all right. Let’S talk about the panel for a bit! For starters, it’s not a gaming monitor! You are not going to enjoy gaming on it, since it is capped at 60 hertz with a 5 millisecond response time.

However, with that said, you can technically game if you still want to since it does support freesync. So if you do happen to hit over fps and 4k resolution, your games won’t experience any screen tearing. I was also pleased to find out that the monitor doesn’t experience a lot of ghosting or corona artifacts. Now the color reproduction on the monitor is insanely good. You get those super, vibrant and crisp colors that just pop with exceptional viewing angles, since it is an ips panel. With that said, the white saturation and black levels are a little underwhelming on default settings.

If you’re playing games or watching content with dark scenes, then you will notice some loss in detail due to the high contrast, enabling hdr will significantly lower the contrast ratio, and you will see more detail in darker scenes. But it’s not perfect. It will add a lot of noise and it will affect the overall quality of the video while watching non-hdr content. Personally, i would have loved to see an option in the settings to adjust black levels manually.

It only gives you the option of selecting low or high and high is already set by default, so there is no room for adjustment, also, keep in mind that enabling hdr will affect the color accuracy of the panel adobe srgb and dci p3 color space will take A big hit, so, if you’re doing any color sensitive work make sure hdr is disabled. One thing i’ve also noticed is that the monitor doesn’t have any backlight blade, which is something i usually find on most monitors that i review. So if you’re gon na be watching videos that have a lot of dark scenes, then you’ll be pleased to find that there is no backlight bleed in terms of connectivity. You do get a decent selection from a couple of hdmis, a single display port and a usb type-c, which is thunderbolt 3 compatible. You can use it to charge usb-c devices, i’m actually using a monitor to charge and power. The laptop through the usb-c cable, also with the usb-c connection, i can use the two extra usb 3 ports in the back to transfer data straight to the laptop if needed.

The monitor does come with built-in speakers, but i wouldn’t use them over actual external speakers or even headphones, because they don’t get that loud, but it is nice that they included them for productivity. I really enjoyed editing on this monitor. I can fit more of everything on my screen. However, i still prefer using an ultrawide for content creation, because i have been spoiled by that 21 by 9 aspect ratio. I just can’t see myself switching back to a traditional 16×9 display for productivity. Overall, i would say that this is a very exciting monitor, no doubt, and currently it’s the only one of its kind, that sports a 32-inch 4k ips monitor.

However, it is targeted for an audience. This is a type of monitor targeted for professionals specifically who work in an environment that requires a lot of movement. For example, let’s say you’re a photographer working in a studio with a bunch of people. You upload the photos on your monitor and you want to share the pictures with your coworkers.

Well, you can do that easily with this monitor without any effort, if you’re considering buying this for your workstation setup at home or your office and you’re not planning on using the stand at all. Basically, if you’re just gon na use it in one static position, then you’re not really taking advantage of what this entire package has to offer. So in that case, i think you’ll be better off buying something cheaper that still offers the same specs. You know ips, monitor 32 inch screen size and 4k resolution if there’s anything out there that does exist.

Currently, the only graph i have with the monitor is with the black levels, which can really affect my experience at times, but other than that i would have loved to see a displayport cable included as well. I mean we are paying 700 for a monitor, so why not include one? But with that said there isn’t anything else out there quite like this, and i feel, like lg, really nailed the design of the monitor and that does it.
