Starcraft 2 — Testing on an i7-4790K + RTX 2080 Ti — 1440p Benchmark — Will It Play?

Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “Starcraft 2 — Testing on an i7-4790K + RTX 2080 Ti — 1440p Benchmark — Will It Play?”.
Hello and welcome to Tech deals. This is StarCraft 2.. This is a nine-year-old computer with a four-year-old graphics card, and this is 1440p Extreme detail. I have done several benchmarks on this computer. This is running Windows 7, not Windows, 10 or 11. Although I do have some benchmarks with Windows 11 coming soon and yes, an i7 47 IDK will run Windows 11. Just fine.

There are a few minor quirks with getting that to happen, but overall it’s been just fun and if you’re stuck on this CPU, then don’t fret it too much. I would not have a problem running Windows 11 on this CPU now I do think it’s time to upgrade if you have any means or money to do so. But if you don’t that’s okay, because this is impressive. Now Starcraft 2 came out in 2010, so a 2014 CPU should run it just fine. There are newer games that I have run, but I’ve lately been having a lot of fun playing Starcraft 2 and I thought well, let’s find out how well this plays now. This is the final Central campaign mission in the final protoss campaign.

It’S not the the epilogue there’s three missions in the epilogue and it’s not multiplayer. Somebody gave a really good suggestion in my previous Starcraft 2 video saying show replay then you’ll be able to see how well the machine runs that may be. I have not messed around with the replays enough to know if the replays simulate multiplayer CPU interactions, the same.

Sometimes replays are just graphics card tests, they are not CPU tests and yes, you’re just looking at base building. I will skip ahead here in just a second to actual combat with a lot of stuff going on the screen, not to worry, but we are running at 1440p extreme. All the details are cranked to the max.

We do have a really nice video card in here, but this is not a video card test. Take a look at the RTX 2080 TI in the upper left-hand corner. It’S at 36, 38.

39. The graphics card is bored out of its mind. We are completely and totally limited by the CPU, but we’re not really limited by the CPU, because after all, look we’re getting 129 frames per second average and 63 in the one percent low.

Well, that’s perfectly fine! I know there are some Pro players who would find that not to be fine, but let’s be honest, it’s fine. Now we’re going to skip ahead here to some actual combat we’re right after 20 seconds with our sponsor today’s video was brought to you by ewin racing. Tech deals more details at the end of the video here we are at the first uh. What do you call these things? Spiers pylons shards, whatever they are, the big thingy that we need to shoot it’s. So what you’re going to see here is you’re going to see performance drop off noticeably, as we start engaging a lot of enemies notice that our real time frame rate is down to 67 71 72 frames per second now, that’s still excellent, totally playable, no issues whatsoever.

It’S easy to over dramatize it and say: oh, my goodness, our frame rate was just cut in half. This is terrible, completely unplayable, just throw it in the trash. That’S not fair! That’S not realistic! The reality is there’s just a lot of stuff going on now here. In just a second we’ll cut again to the next Shard and then the next one, I’m going to show you all of them so that you can see all of the heavy combat as opposed to the base building and running around.

Here you notice it jumps back down to 70 frames per second for a nine-year-old CPU. Well, that’s good, but then again it’s also a 13 year old game. So what do you expect, but I kind of would have thought it would have done better, considering that this CPU is four years after the game came out, you’d think that it would do better than 70 frames per second, yes, I know we’re at 1440p we’re at Maximum detail, but still the graphics card is not the limitation, we’re really only using two cores. So so, what’s the issue here well game optimization, Maybe lack of threading overall CPU bottleneck. It’S certainly not a ram limitation, we’re only using eight and a half gigabytes of RAM. So certainly Ram is not a limit.

Vram is not a limit. We are on a clean, install of Windows 7, which is appropriate to the era. We are running all updated drivers, there’s nothing running in the background. It’S a very clean machine. It really should be an issue, but we’re just not getting anything faster than this. I’M open to your thoughts down in the comment section below as to why this isn’t running faster than it currently is because I actually kind of thought it would to be totally honest with you now. The I5 6500 didn’t do that much better, but the I5 6500 runs a 3.3 gigahertz, and this runs at 4.4, 1.1 gigahertz of extra clock. Speed makes a difference now.

It’S true that the i7 4790k is slightly slower on a per clock basis than the I5 6500 and the hyper 30 doesn’t matter, but it’s not that much slower. That kind of surprised me, thank you all so much for watching this video like comment and subscribe down below. Let me know what games you want to see tested on this. I am going to have an overall Roundup video, where I contain all of the Benchmark charts for all of the different games tested, maybe a tiny bit of footage from each one. But I really think these dedicated videos give you a chance to see in detail how well the game runs on a specific set of Hardware. Now I’ve had requests for. Can you show three or four different video cards? Can you show two or three different CPUs? Well, that’s a different kind of video and it gets very complex very fast. I can do it, but then I’d have to cut the number of games down. I am trying to show a variety of games here that you don’t normally get to see that don’t get benchmarked very often. Maybe this isn’t it. Maybe I should be picking a different game, but at least this is something that I don’t think. Very many people are uploading French, Fresh benchmarks too.

So I look forward to your comments below. Thank you again for watching, and I will see you next time. You win racing has a wide selection of chairs to fit all shapes and sizes of Gamers, ranging from petite to cuddly.
