Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “Project H”.
I’M emily pilliton, i’m the founder of project h design and the design build course, studio, h and the girls after school program, camp age, so project h is a non-profit that was created in order to use design and creativity and building to get kids excited about learning. Project-Based learning, i think, is for me, is hands-on relevant, tangible projects that bring into the classroom applied core subjects. So what are projects that we can do that integrate math and science and the humanities in really meaningful ways that result in something that’s tangible and meaningful to kids. So for us, our studio age class, our students get out of it a sense of confidence and and a sense of voice and audacity like here’s, a space and here’s a class where i can say the craziest thing that i want to build and then be given. This, the physical space and the tools to actually make that thing real. Well, our teachers of both our studio, h class and then the the camp h program are are all professional, architects, designers or creatives.
And so i think what what we get out of it. And i’m trained as an architect too, and so for me to be in a position of education and of learning for myself and my students. I feel like it’s such a great way to apply my own creative practice in a way that is so connected to people and is really intimate where i get to learn about my students and their lives and what makes them tick and the things that they love And then provide them with ways to to bring those things to life and build the things that they imagine.
