Hello and welcome to tech deals floatplane subscribers and YouTube members. This is for you, an exclusive video that was filmed way back in December of 2018. Yes, I haven’t paused here because I need to record a intro here to explain the video, because otherwise it makes no sense. This was my review or my initial review of the PlayStation Classic. I really wanted to do it again and I never did. I wanted to go back and refilm it. I wasn’t happy with it.
I left several important pieces out. It was sort of a first take and I did I had played with it. We had used it there’s actually another exclusive video of my wife and I playing with this.
I’Ve played with a number of the games, and I do have a conclusion at the end of this. However, I really didn’t cover it as well, as I wanted to it of course, so I put this aside and thought I’ll come back to it. I will refilm this and I never did, and it’s a year later and who cares now? This has now been available in the 20 and 30 dollar price range.
I commented at the end of this that if the price was lower, it’d be worthwhile. If you get this for 30 bucks, it’s actually a pretty good deal. It’S not that bad at the launch price of 100 it was stupid and the game selection is questionable, but whatever that’s all water under the bridge. Thank you for being a supporter of the channel.

We know that not everybody can do that and so enjoy this video from late 2018, hello and welcome to tech deals, sony’s playstation, classic 20 classic PlayStation 1 games for $ 99 on an emulated ps1 with two original controllers updated for the modern world. The controllers plug in via USB the PlayStation Classic plugs in via USB it’s powered, in fact, by USB, and then it has an HDMI port on the back. It is not expandable and not upgradable with new games and I think that’s a big swing and a Miss from Sony in that department. It would have been really cool to see the ability to add new games or maybe have an online store. But I understand this is mostly for this nostalgic factor now in just a minute, I’m going to actually show you opening of this. I film the unboxing earlier behind me. You can see Final Fantasy 7, my wife and I sat here and we played through several games. We played the original Grand Theft Auto, we played battle arena at Ocean, we played demolition, derby and a couple of others as well. It’S interesting because it actually works very well. I’Ve seen reviews of this from other people and it’s kind of hit and miss some people get really technical about it and say: well, it’s not perfect, because it’s emulated. I think it works very well. I frankly from my memories of playing the ps1 20 years ago.
I don’t have any complaints. I found the controller’s worked. Well, it was quick to load. It’S got.
Some very nice features that you don’t get on an actual, genuine ps1. The fact that it stores, where your game mode is you can play a game and pause it at any time and resume from that point without having to use the game’s built-in save feature and that’s per game, but again, there’s only 20 games on it. So it’s more of a nostalgia and fun curiosity piece, maybe than anything else due to the limited game selection, there are a lot of classic PlayStation games, not included, isn’t worth a hundred dollars. That’S a personal decision! If you just want a couple of the games that are including you want to play around with it sure by all means, if you want a really expansive classic game library, not really the Nintendo Mini and the Super NES, many of the classics that Nintendo launched have Exactly the same problem that I expandable, you can’t add games to them now many people watching this video may be saying why? Wouldn’T you just get a retro pie? Would why wouldn’t you run emulators, you can do that and many people do. But it’s worth noting that to use those emulators, you have to have the roms and the roms, unless you own all the original cartridges, while you can certainly download them, aren’t legal. This at least provides you with a legal way to do it.
Although I understand many people do retro prize and emulators, it is well designed the pieces feel good. The controls are simple. Setting it up was really simple. I’M going to show you some footage here in a minute, but in short, I was underwhelmed by the entire experience.
It was sort of it’s like trying to relive memories by going back to where you were as a child and then discovering it’s not the way you remember going back to an old school or an old summer camp going back to an old home, and you remember It when you were young but as an adult, it all looks different and feels different. I have a feeling that, unless you’re just dying for the nostalgia, retro gaming experience, let your memories stay memories and play modern stuff, because grand theft auto in this compared to grand theft auto 5. Today it’s cute and interesting. It was only 21 years ago and it’s terrible compared to the modern stuff.
Now final fantasy 7, I played for probably longer than any of the other games, and it was fun, go play Final, Fantasy, 13 or 15. To be honest with you, it’s it’s! Okay but boy it’s dated in any case, let me show you some game footage here and then we’ll wrap this up. At the beginning of this video, I mentioned that it has a USB power plug. It does come with the you bet, USB cable, but it does not come with an actual wall outlet. Now you can plug this into the USB ports. If I could playstation 3 or 4 or many other devices, I tried the USB ports on the TV, but they would not power it. However, interestingly enough, one of the USB power banks has been powering this just fine. In fact, we still have a full charge, and this has been on for quite some time, so this does not consume a lot of power if you’re looking for something you can take in the car on the road on vacation or on an airplane, if you have Some device, some HDMI device, may be a entertainment system in your car that will take an HDMI port, a power bank Plus.
This would provide a lot of entertainment on the road without having to worry about power, or if your car has USB ports, which many modern ones do. You can simply plug it in there, and that would be very handy beyond the inability to load new games and just the fact that reliving your childhood. This is quite dated. The other big thing that I ran into that I found to be very uncomfortable is the fact that the controllers do not have the analog sticks on them.
Now the original PlayStation did not have analog sticks, it was a while I got it later and then the ps2 came along with the tooth from that. Using this controller right here actually found to be very uncomfortable, I have been used to the analog sticks for so long. This was a bit annoying to use and because the controllers are USB, they plug into where the memory cards would go. You cannot use classic controllers.
You cannot use any other controllers, you basically can only you might be able to use some other USB controller, but you can’t use any of the classic stuff. This preys on the Stahl giclees. Would I recommend, buying it? No for $ 100? No, if it were 50. I might feel a bit differently at a hundred.
It seems a little bit expensive. It’S cute! It’S interesting! It’S a trip down memory lane that I think most of you should give a pass like this video.
