Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “Next Thing Co. Releases “World’s First” $9 Computer”.
I’M dave this is next thing company and we are announcing the world’s first nine dollar computer chip. So this is chip um on the front side, you see the chip logo on the back side, you’ll see all the components that make it possible. There’S a usb port full size, a micro usb port with usb on the go support, a eighth inch jack that has composite video out speaker out and microphone in. It has built-in wi-fi hl211bg and n bluetooth, 4.0, four gigs of nand flash storage and a one gigahertz. All winter a13 based processor chip is nine dollars, because we’ve worked very closely with the manufacturer of the system on chip. That’S used to build it all winter and we are going directly to the source, and that means we can sell it for a very low price.
Uh, it runs uh, any linux based distribution, uh, the distribution that we are building and supporting with chip is debbie based out of the box. Chip can connect over composite video, so you can use an old tv or a tiny screen that you have. You can plug into pocket chip and use that display, or we made these vga, and we also have an hdmi shield right there and they snap onto pocket chip or actually onto chip just like this, putting it backwards. So they snap together a little click, and now it has a vga port on it and similarly uh the same thing with the hdmi. If that’s what you want to use for higher res uh, the hdmi shield is 15.
The vga shield is 10, so this is a. This is an early prototype of pocket chip. It’S turned on right now. It has a battery built into it when it ships for real, but we have this little make battery pack that one of the guys had we used to power at the moment um and it makes chip portable. So you can insert chip into pocket chip and then you can use the chip anywhere uh. The goal for chip is to give anyone who wants a nine dollar computer access to one and that to make a tool for people to make computer-based projects and to make building things with computers as easy and accessible as possible. Next thing, company is a team of artists, engineers, designers, hackers, um we’re here to make stuff and to help people make stuff, and you know in the past that meant making hackable cameras and now it means making the most affordable fastest and smallest computer built for projects. The first project we released was about a year ago, um was called auto.
It’S a hackable, animated gift. Camera chip will launch on kickstarter may 7th, which, if you’re watching this is probably today chip is nine dollars. It’S really powerful. It’S really tiny, but the other thing that we’re really excited about is it’s completely open source, and that means you can download the schematics.
You can change chip, you can figure out how it works and make it do whatever you want, and it also means that somebody else can make their own chip and we’re really excited about what the community can do. When the board that powers, your project is completely open source and we need the community’s help to make it as good as it can possibly be. You .
