Make your own 3d Zoetropes with 4-Mation

Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “Make your own 3d Zoetropes with 4-Mation”.
Hey this is tyler with make magazine, i’m here at maker for denver, and one of the exhibits i was really excited to see here is formation, which is a 3d zootrope kit. Now, one of the things that really caught my eye – we’ve seen 3d zootropes before in a couple of different formats, some large, some very small, but one of the things i really liked about this is the quality of animation i saw in this one long time ago. I was traditionally trained in animation, and this one has this really beautiful anticipation and movement to it. That really caught my eye. What’S really important about formation.

Is that they’re selling a kit that allows you to create your own 3d zootrope they’ve got a control board a particular led strobe board. All of it is custom manufactured to control it from your phone. Let’S go chat with kevin and check it out. I’M kevin holmes and i brought formation to maker faire formation, is a 3d zoetro inspired by john ed marks blooms and the slow dance on kickstarter. Those were two projects that i really liked. So zoetrope is a victorian toy victorians invented animation. Before we had film, you have a strip of paper with a cartoon on it sitting on the inside of a cylinder with slits, you spin, the cylinder and, as each slit passes in front of your eye, you get to see a flash of the uh image on The paper opposite and that creates an animation. So a 3d zoetrope is the same principle. You have an animation and a sequence of step of frames in that animation, but instead of 2d images, the the the frames are 3d objects, so 3d zoetrope, instead of uses strobe lights to freeze they uh, freeze the scene and create the images of the 3d objects That your brain can then stitch together in a sequence to make a short movie, so you have a carousel with your 3d objects placed in sequence around the rim of the carousel and you flash strobes down onto the carousel as it turns. So how do you go about making a 3d zootrope? Well, you could buy one of our kits which we’ll be launching on kickstarter in december, so you can sign up for a notification at formation, dot, co, dot.

Uk, that’s four dash mason or you can make your own. There are instructables on it. Uh johnny mark has done an instructable. If you look on instructables.com for john ed mark and blooms, but otherwise, as i say, you can try, it use one of ours. You .
