Make: Volume 43 Wearables Meetup

Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “Make: Volume 43 Wearables Meetup”.
Thank you for coming to maker idiots, no seriously. Thank you so much for coming uh. I just want to say thank you to ayah, but i want to thank uh dale first, we’re making this great magazine and for allowing a community like you to come and celebrate with us and celebrate what you guys are making dale. Thank you. So you know, as many of you know, this is the former exploratory of the palace of fine arts.

It’S a 1950-100 year old structure that was sort of meant uh. It was meant to fall apart. We’Re really happy to be in this new space and someone said to me: there’s a real mojo here. My name is tanya hurst and i work for dog hunter and we make products called lenino and arduino yoon, and i teach kids soldering programming and sewing with electronics. I was really excited to hear about the meetup i found out about just about a week ago and i really wanted to come to meet nathan hearst who’s, one of the editors, because i’m tanya hurst he’s nathan hurst. So i had to eat him and i was just really excited to hear about make moving to the bay area and i just had to see the space for the first time. Well, i’m wearing something called the blipless, which is sound reactive jewelry, and it is something programmed on arduino, but as i educate my students once you’ve made a circuit, that’s like you know exactly what you need, then you can design your custom pcb or printed circuit board And then make it just the minimal. You know impact that you want so uh, so this was created by austin, appleby um for burning man, and now i’m really the only person who makes them offers them.

As jewelry. I offer like a little bow tie version for men and i also offer them as fundraising, like you know, as a pledge reward for someone who contributes money. These also have helped me get on the wearable tech scene almost immediately, but they are fabulous glasses made by mace tech and they’re known as led shades, and they come in red, green, blue and white and now rgb.

But i actually prefer the single color for the text and then you can advance the pattern. So you can see. I am arduino at heart, but i think coming up just right here. They’Re now on fire and now make got ta have make. So i always wear these in my music videos and uh to my classes that i teach to inspire my students that one day you could work to create something like this or be able to tackle the programming code for it.

I teach all over really so i’ll. Go to schools i’ll go to maker spaces. I teach at tech liminal in oakland tech shop all over the bay i’ve taught for d-box for kids, tech, museum, children’s creativity and now, with the fabulous new former exploratorium location, we can have workshops here. You .
