MAKE @ Engadget Expand 2014: Wearables In Contemporary Ballet

Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “MAKE @ Engadget Expand 2014: Wearables In Contemporary Ballet”.
Hi this is matt richardson at engadget. Expand i’m here with elizabeth. The designer of these beautiful dresses and sheena from the arch contemporary ballet tell us what we’re looking at tell us about what we’re looking at here. Well, i was commissioned by the ballet to create these fashion technology dresses that would emphasize their movements and geometric shapes. I used a conductive fabric or conductive thread and leds, and then i have a little switch right here, so they can turn it on while they’re dancing.

So the dress actually becomes a tool for the dancer to wear rather than a outfit or costume, and this is being used for a special event right. Yes, it’s actually going to be the world premiere next saturday. Do you want to talk a little bit about that sure? So next saturday will be the world premiere. We commissioned elizabeth to design these costumes and they do become an extension of our geometric lines and our piece was inspired by the shapes of the costumes next saturday.

At 7 30 at the sheen center in new york, 18 bleeker street. That’S where they’ll be world premiering. So this is the first time that they’re actually being seen, and next saturday will be the first time they’ll be on stage for everyone to see, and you can go to archballet.com and find out more great. Thank you so much.

Thank you for being here. These are beautiful more coming soon. .
