Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “M1 Mac Mini — First Look”.
Hello there and thank you, viewers and lurkers alike. I’M muse – and this is tech deals today, i’m going to be unboxing a mac mini. Actually, i’m going to show you the whole box. First, okay, it’s the top! It’S the front of the box, it’s a pretty explanatory, it’s a side! Well, it’s this side! You know really uh basic modern. You know what the ps5 wanted to do. Uh. You know the box inside the box um, so mac mini mac mini both sides are the same okay. The back is the only thing that has any kind of other information on it says: eight gigabytes, unified memory, 256 gigabyte, ssd mac mini with apple m1 chip, 8.
Core cpu and 8 core gpu, two thunderbolt usb 4 ports, hdmi 2.0 port 2, usb a ports; 10 100 1000 base, t ethernet, 3.5 millimeter, headphone jack, wi-fi 6 and bluetooth 5.0 display keyboard and mouse sold separately. I should hope so if there were a display, keyboard and mouse in here, that would be the most impressive part of this box. The fact that there is a pc, a display and a keyboard and a mouse in this box like that is it’s a life-size barbie computer is what’s happening there, all right, which honestly sounds adorable and i totally buy it. Let’S get this bad boy open.
I’Ve heard legends of its gaming potential at 4k and it sounds insane and absolutely ridiculous, but fear not. I am going to test it. Whoa, that’s really trippy all right. The entire cover is just a full-size, a life-size image of the pc inside.
It is the exact size of the box uh just with some rounded edges. So that’s pretty neat. Oh, it’s got a little pull tab to pull it out like a battery. All right isn’t that cute? Okay, i’m assuming it’s uh mountable! No! No! They don’t believe in mounting it to a desktop or to a um.
I’M sorry monitor, i guess they don’t believe in mounting it to a monitor. They’Ve, just uh put the one big foot here. It says: mac mini real big. Just in case, you were wondering uh in case anything about this screamed anything other than mac mini there’s a label in case you forget.
This is very interesting so far, because it is just a brick of computer. It honestly feels pretty heavy for its size. So i’m going to go ahead and get my scale here. I’M gon na weigh it for you guys.
So, just out of curiosity, it’s a brand new scale. I just unboxed it. I don’t know if it has batteries, it does that’s nice of them zero out there. It goes it’s zero.
Okay, let’s weigh this bad boy, it is 41 ounces. Okay, i don’t know if that’s the right unit we’ll do pounds. It is 2.9 pounds, so it weighs almost three times as much as the aero 3 that i reviewed previously. It is the only other mini pc that i myself have had the pleasure of playing with and weighing.
So that is my only point of reference, but it’s about three times as much uh in weight as the aero, 3. um and in tech terms, probably three times as much power. I see absolutely no ports on it so far, which is bizarre, but the apple way. The modern simplistic look, so it’s a nice clean. It’S almost like a modern art sitting in your room like a bionic, futuristic machine uh. What any of the new consoles should have looked like um, you know, but then there’s just this giant apple on it with a bite taken out of it. I know it’s their logo, but still, i honestly would have. I would have liked this as a console.
It’S it’s small. It’S compact, uh! The consoles are going for 800 to 900 now anyway, because of you know, selling out and other people selling them, so maybe they should have just been released for that price and and put all that money into getting um tech. That was more compact. This would have fit in my entertainment system really easily. They would stack great. You just have a brick wall of consoles. Okay, it comes off kind of like a diaper yeah.
It does [ Laughter, ] anybody else getting flashes of a diaper here. Okay, all right now that i’ve undiapered my my new mac mini um. Well, that apple is quite a different color color without the uh the coat on it. I thought it was like a charcoal apple, but it is black.
It is shiny black, let’s see if it’s sticky yeah it is, it is really sticky that is one heck of a fingerprint. I just left there and uh. It’S already got one little tiny speck of something stuck to it. So the same thing i told the ps5 shiny is pretty until it’s sticky, okay, we want clean, looking items around our house, don’t make it impossible for us to keep something. Looking clean, it’s very shiny and pretty and reflective, but you’re gon na have to clean it regularly and sticky.
Stuff is hard. Clean. All right looks like this uh visor, looking thing on the front of our cyclops box: actually, peels off so uh, i’m gon na.
Do it this direction, so we can get a nice zoom in on it. That’S important! Okay, all right, asmr appeal, inbound, you’re, probably thinking to yourself. That was really weird the way i kept eye contact with you and i didn’t blink and it was a weird head position to choose, but you’re the one that made it weird all right.
Let’S look at these ports, okay, so going uh. If you’ve got the apple side up, you got the apple up. I know how to describe this position from right to left. You have your power button, your power cord or your ac dc power adapter, where that cord would plug in your power. You got your power button and your power port and your lan port uh. Then you’ve got your two lightning ports, thunderbolt yeah, yeah and then you’ve got your hdmi which thunderbolt.
That’S not it’s not a thing, but you know it’s fine, all right. So you have your two thunderbolt ports here, uh your hdmi port. You got a vent. You got one little tiny, tiny vent um.
It doesn’t seem like much to cool this bad boy. It’S uh! It’S heavy! I feel like there’s a lot of compute powder in there, and that is powder power. I feel like there’s a lot of compute power in there, and that is a very small vent for that. That is not gon na have a whole lot of airflow, and then we have our two regular usb ports, uh and then our little headphone jack.
So all the ports that we discussed on the box right along here for you beautiful, has everything it said it had, which is ideal, preferably you don’t want things on the box that are not here or very hard to access. Now your arrow 3 granted, you could expand the memory. I don’t know how you would open this and apple doesn’t usually let you open any of their things. They are proprietary about all of their things and they want you to sell their items that they have a monopoly on too soon um. So there’s no expanding or altering this, but all in all it’s a much better machine to begin with. So maybe you don’t need to, and most people that get the arrow 3 aren’t ever going to open it anyway or bother with that they’re. Just it’s just a neat added feature to to talk about, but let’s face it. If people are gon na mod, their computer they’re not gon na get that so that’s uh, the mac mini.
That is really everything i see here. Let’S see what else is in the box, though, since this is an unboxing. I forgot okay back to this box, designed by apple in california, oh yeah. It said some pieces were made in other places, but they’re marked individually, so i guess we’ll never know because we’re not opening it.
So thanks, malaysia uh, let’s see here an apple decal, so in case you wanted to let other drivers know that you, like apple, there’s, an apple decal, because this mac mini shows how much you support them. So here’s your apple decal for your car and, let’s see here – oh here’s, the ports again, yep power, button power, port, ethernet, uh, thunderbolt, usb4, hdmi, usb 2, usba’s and headphone. Oh that’s, a status indicator light is what this tiny dot. That’S your status indicator so um.
If you want to know the status of your pc, you might invest in a magnifying glass. Hopefully it’s a very bright light. I have seen bright lights come from small places, so maybe maybe you shine really bright like a diamond yeah. That was a song reference.
All right um – i guess this is the desktop that comes up when you hook it up: menu bar spotlight, control, center, uh, finder access, all your files, folders and apps. The little face looks like a little papercl paperclip guy. I haven’t talked to him in forever doc. Easily get to the apps you use most.
I don’t use a lot of apple products in case you guys weren’t aware i am aware of them and how they always want their specific things. I’Ve had a couple of apple phones against my will um but uh. I don’t have a lot of apple stuff, so it’s gon na be an adventure uh doc easily get to the apps. You use most all right system preferences, cool cool, so that’s uh, basically, settings sort of all right.

So, instead of a manual, they give you a website to view it because they know none of us are going to keep up with that paper. Thanks for saving trees, apples for real for real. I appreciate that saving trees. Okay, what’s this other little paper in here, whoa that is feels like tissue paper might be. They might have printed microscopically on tissue paper safety handling, avoid hearing damage. That is ideal.
I don’t think this has speakers on it, though. So it’s interesting they’re warning you about your own sound gear. That’S all that jazz um! That is all that’s in here. So mostly they wanted you to have a decal which really um they just wanted.
Free marketing drive around with this bad boy on your car they’re. Not paying you for that you’re kidding yourself kidding yourself, wow such cable management. You know i’m gon na give them credit. It’S not twisty ties.
I’Ve been getting bored with twisty ties, so this is uh something different. This is our power cord um. It looks really different. This is a cool power cord, that’s your power cord, there’s, no uh, there’s no box, or anything like that is that is the power cord.
That is quite nice. So that means that they have the built-in um box there. The built-in adapter box, instead of having a cord to a box to a cord to the wall, you just have the cord from the system to the wall. So again, i do have to applaud apple for simplicity, making things easy, compact and modern and sleek alright.
So that’s everything in the box uh the rest of it’s going to come down to testing it out, seeing how it performs – and i will share all of those results with you guys all right.
