Looking at the new Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra's cameras: better than last year?

Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “Looking at the new Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra’s cameras: better than last year?”.
The samsung galaxy ultra series set a high bar for smartphone photography. In fact, we even crowned the s21 ultra as the best camera phone of 2021 and with the release of the galaxy s22 ultra samsung claims to offer its most impressive camera package on a smartphone. To date, i’m harley moran with android authority and in this article we’re going to take a look at some image samples and talk about our early impressions of the samsung galaxy s22 ultra’s camera system. Now, on paper, the galaxy s22 ultra’s camera system doesn’t seem to be a whole lot different when compared to last year’s model. Both phones have a quad camera setup, consisting of a 12 megapixel ultra wide camera.

A 108 megapixel wide angle, camera a 10 megapixel telephoto camera. With three times optical zoom and an additional 10 megapixel photo camera with a 10 times optical zoom. The only noticeable difference between the two camera systems is that in the galaxy s22 ultra, it has slightly bigger sensors, and this is a welcome addition, since a larger photo sight results in better looking photos. Overall, the cameras on this phone perform exactly how you’d expect for a high-end flagship, as you can see, from the photos taken by my colleague, eric zieman exposure, color balance and details look great and when you look at the more colorful portraits it’s clear that samsung has Really outgrown its reputation for producing oversaturated photos. The company has come a long way with its color balance and continues to improve with every galaxy flagship device. It’S not perfect, though.

There are some signs of chromatic aberration in the photos we took, which is the weird magenta haze on the edges of objects such as in the foreground of this tree. To be fair, most people aren’t really going to notice this unless they zoom in really close and looking at the self-portrait. The bokeh blur looks a little too exaggerated for my taste, and this is especially if you’re, comparing this image to an equivalent shot using a dslr. But again, this visual quality is pretty common with a lot of smartphones, since most phones rely on image processing to mimic the photo characteristics of larger cameras.

Samsung claims, however, that its main 108 megapixel camera now has improved detail capture, and this is thanks to a feature that the company calls adaptive, pixel technology, which extracts more detail from the camera by merging 108 megapixel and 12 megapixel pixel bin data. And if you want to learn more about pixel binning and why it’s important in smartphone, photography make sure to check out our full explainer article on android authority.com, now back to the s22 ultra. While images certainly look sharp, it’s a bit hard to tell whether or not the adaptive pixel technology has much of an effect in overall photo quality. I think more tests down the road and especially in our full review, will reveal the answer, but for now, at first glance it doesn’t seem like the adaptive pixel tech is as big as samsung claims it out to be so we know that the galaxy s22 ultra’s Cameras are good, but is it worth buying over the galaxy s22 plus? That really all depends on what you want out of your phone’s camera.

The images coming out of the galaxy s22 plus are quite comparable to the s22 ultra exposure. Color and detail are neck and neck between the two systems and the only real advantage with the s22 ultra is its inclusion of a periscope lens that zooms in 10 times optically and goes even farther digitally. So unless you frequently take pictures of subjects from afar, then the s22 plus might be more suitable for you. The galaxy s22 ultra is not at all a revolution in mobile photography. What it does, however, is uphold the standards that samsung has set when it comes to flagship camera quality. The galaxy s22 ultra features similar hardware to the s21 ultra, though the slightly larger sensor and software improvements help tidy up the image quality while introducing features like pro shooting modes and nitography.
