iPhone 8 vs Samsung S8 - Battery Drain Test

Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “iPhone 8 vs Samsung S8 – Battery Drain Test”.
Hey, what’s up folks how’s it going. This is waj hope you guys are all doing well, and i took the past couple of days to do an iphone 8 battery life comparison between the samsung galaxy s8. Now the interesting thing about the new iphone 8, the standard model is that actually comes with a smaller battery than the iphone 7 about 18 21 milliamp hours versus the previous generation came with a 1960 milliamp hour battery and the internals have been improved. A better overall efficiency, both in hardware and software on the iphone side versus the samsung galaxy s8, has a pretty large battery in comparison, 3000 milliamp hours both are non-removable, but they both have some common features uh. Firstly, they both have a fast charge capability.

So you can get around 50 to 40 charge in at just under 25 to 30 minutes. It also takes about around 100 to 120 minutes to get a full charge from zero to a hundred percent. The great things about the new iphone is that they have. Finally, wireless charging capabilities in achi formats.

So if you have a qi charger uh, you can definitely use that i’m actually using the samsung one to charge the iphones. Ironically, the samsung has qi and pma charging capabilities. Above most, wireless chargers are probably going to be achieve format in the future. From now on, i’m guessing, but in terms of actual factory claim talk times.

Uh apple claims around 14 hours versus samsung claims about 30 hours of talk time. We can’t really test that uh to a scientific extent very accurately. What we can do is a video comparison test between uh just running a video on loop on the vlc app on both platforms. Turning off all of the wireless antennas and just uh, setting the brightness to around 50 on both devices and basically uh, the results are shown right over here.

Uh both get a fairly respectable score and a fairly similar about 13 hours, 44 minutes on the iphone about 13 hours, 20 minutes on the samsung, so uh relatively good, keep in mind. The resolution on both videos were 720p now another benchmark that we did was using. The gfx uh battery life test on the t-rex benchmark, so this test uh, basically uh, gives an estimate on how the gpu and cpu perform in rendering uh this clip over here. And it gives us a score and kind of a rough estimate on how both platforms would perform.

So we get a score about 3330 on the iphone and comparatively on the samsung s8. We get 29.76 in terms of the run time, which is different on both platforms, because on uh, the samsung we’re actually rendering out a higher resolution of just a full hd versus the iphone or screen resolution is uh, just uh 1334 uh by 750. So it’s a different resolution, so it’s not an apples to apples comparison, but just for your reference point on the iphone, we got a runtime about 469.4 minutes versus 216.4 minutes on the s8 and keep in mind. That’S not a direct uh comparison because they’re both rendering at different resolutions. So obviously the samsung’s gon na be a little bit more power hungry when running this benchmark. So most uh regard if you’re going to be doing any kind of cpu slash, gpu intensive application looks like on the iphone platform. It might be a little bit more efficient at the end of the day. The real life battery comparison test will be depending upon your personal needs. What you do on a day-to-day basis, uh some people might have better results with the samsung galaxy s8. Some people might have better results with the iphone depending upon again your usage profile, the apps. They use and everything in most cases they’re about 95 similar, even though the samsung has the larger battery capacity, but on that guys, that’s really it. Hopefully this gave you some sort of idea in terms of how these two devices perform in terms of battery life.

For most people, you could definitely get through a 12 to 13 hour day, uh, definitely a little bit more on probably both devices as the battery goes through more and more discharge cycles. The battery performance, like you guys, probably know already on any smart device, goes down a hill from when it was new again with the wireless charging capabilities and the fast charging capabilities and the relatively decent battery performance. Uh they’re both pretty satisfactory, but on that guys, thanks again for watching give us a thumbs up. If you like this video and we’ll see you in the next article, take care .
