Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “High Tech Stilts at the StiltFactory”.
He’S the stilt maker head scientist all right. What’S your name, my name is david hanson david nice to meet you, i’m mike columbo, from make magazine um so uh. What is the uh? What is the state of stilts today, because i’ve seen old-fashioned stilts, where you’re just sort of holding them like this and you’re walking along, like that? What’S the difference between those and the kind of stuff that you make um, ours is an evolution of stilts that are just always been out there in a sense, but we’ve learned so much about how the body works these days, that we can start to really dial It in so it’s not just janky old wood ones, which are great, but we can make them out of metal and we’re welding them, and these particular stilts have a lot of varieties of adjustments on them from where your foot is on the plate. To the calf support, that’s reversible and you can put it in the back and make it a shin support or a calf support.
There’S there’s height differences, it’s all about comfort! So that’s really interesting, because i actually well. I took a a graduate class on biomechanics and um and and and we talked about some of that same stuff, but i didn’t know that uh that the study of biomechanics extended to stilts. That’S where there were, i mean, were there people who were into biomechanics and were just like? I like stilts too, and i’m gon na like put these two things together or something like that. I think it’s the age of specialization, so we’re all just geeking out on our little particular niches, right, yeah, and so this is my geeking out here: yeah yeah! Well, you know a lot of people say that that creativity in and of itself is sort of the taking uh disparate fields and and bringing them together, uh, which is seems to be like the kind of thing that you’re doing. That is definitely me, so i’m a licensed contractor by trade for years couple decades and i just enjoy this the minute i got in and saw stilters in santa cruz. I just got so excited by it and i just applied my knowledge of making started with wood. Eight years ago and just have been building through and now i’m into the aluminum, and i have even more new kind of styles and designs coming out great well, thank you very much, um yeah.
