GoPro Karma vs DJI Mavic Pro - Best Compact Drones

Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “GoPro Karma vs DJI Mavic Pro – Best Compact Drones”.
Hey, what’s up everyone how’s it going! This is watch hope you guys are all the little and in this article, we’re going to be taking a look at the new GoPro karma drone, which is a compact foldable flying camera platform and specifically compared against probably where my favorite drones out there right now. The Mavic pro from DJI, so what we’re going to do is take a look at the overall form. Factor and design of both vehicles. Take a look at the actual video quality comparison and really determine which one is right for you and which one is best overall value. So, let’s get back now one of the big appealing factors of the Matic Pro is. Certainly it’s compact overall form factor side-by-side. You can see that, even though we folded up the GoPro Karma in it’s more compact position, it still looks absolutely gigantic in terms of measurements themselves. The Matic pro measures about 83 millimeters in width and just under 200 millimeters in terms of length versus the karma measures about at 224 millimeters by 365 millimeters, now, there’s also a significant difference when it comes to weight. The Karma when loaded up with the gimbal and the hero 5 camera is just under 19 hundred grams versus you’re, looking at around 734 grams with the magic probe that has that built-in camera and gimbal.

So one comes from a portability and size perspective. Certainly DJI has a definitely one-up GoPro on this end. Now the controller for the Maverick Pro is also a lot more compact than the clamshell design karma controller. But the nice thing is, you do have a built-in 5 inch 720p display that’s fairly bright 900 nits, and on top of that you do have slightly better battery life.

I rated up to 4 hours. Typically, with my maverick controller, I get anywhere between 2 to 3 hours and you’re, not always reliant on your smart phone connection, to actually see what you’re doing, which is a nice all-in-one solution. That being said, it’s not too much of a hassle to connect to your smartphone, using a dynamic controller. Now in terms of the control scheme. You’Re, looking at very similar configuration both have dual thumb sticks both have dedicated record buttons and as well as mode buttons for different Stills and video functionality, as well as a dedicated control I’ll for your camera. Gimbal angle.

Now, when it comes to the communication aspects from the controller to the drone, I did find that, generally speaking, I had a better experience with the Maverick Pro. Firstly, it’s a theoretical range is about seven kilometers. I’Ve never actually gone past about five kilometers. With my maverick Pro, but even at five kilometers you’re, getting fairly good overall signal quality, you can get up to 1080p at 30fps with fairly minimal latency, and the maximum range on the Karma is about three kilometers, so less than half the distance of the Mavic. In addition, the actual signal quality is about 720p at 30fps. Sometimes you do get frames dropped here and there not a big deal, but I did find that the communication latency, I was definitely a little bit longer – didn’t feel as responsive and a video didn’t look as crisp on the screen that I did when using my maverick Pro so that’s definitely something to be alert about when comparing the two.

Now, let’s get back to the drone hardware itself and talk about flight dynamics. Now, when it comes to maximum speed and velocity, the Maverick has a top speed rating about 40 miles, an hour in sports mode versus you’re. Looking about 35 miles an hour on the Karma but, more importantly, the flight dynamics and the overall hover stability is a lot better on the Maverick Pro because it actually has optical flow sensors and ultrasonic sensors to kind of maintain as little hover deviations as possible. This becomes really critical at lower altitudes and especially when you’re flying indoors without a GPS signal. So all in all that means that, from a stability standpoint, when you first launch both drones you’re going to find that the Maverick Pro just pretty much barely moves in midair. It just maintains its hover altitude and has minimal horizontal and vertical shifts.

So it’s very easy to fly versus the GoPro Karma deviates a lot more, it’s more reliant on the GPS signal and it doesn’t really have any physical track of where it is in space and time in relation to the ground. It’S mostly using the GPS signal log to kind of maintain a rough hover, so you’re going to find it that the Karma is a little bit more trickier to fly, especially in tight-knit situations with Stickles, and on top of that there is no active obstacle avoidance system. Like we have on the Mavic, which it definitely makes it the more friendlier a solution for beginners and certainly the more safer option now, one of the great features about the karma has to be the fact that you can actually detach the gimbal and camera housing off The drone body and attach it to the included karma grip, which now becomes a handheld personal camera, stabilizing rig that you can take anywhere.

You go, there’s also several mounting options for the grip itself. So if you do a lot of sports photography or any kind of action videography, this could be a really great compelling solution where you’re using the drone and the personal stabilizing system to really encompass and capture everything you need in that action scenario. Now, when it comes to the actual camera quality and specifications you’re looking at pretty much the built in a maverick pro camera versus the hero v, black, which is definitely interesting comparison they’re, both around 12 megapixels CMOS sensors.

They both can record 4k resolution at 30fps as well as 1080p and quad HD in several different frames per second and in terms of high-speed recording. The Maverick Pro can do 720p at around 180 frames per second versus you’re. Looking at 240 frames per second with a V Hero – 5 black at 720p, it’s a little bit better slow motion, capabilities with the GoPro camera, and the big difference over here, as you can see from the side by side, is definitely the field of view and the Lens selection that we have the Maverick actually has a very kind of a standard. Looking lens is about 35 millimeters, which gives you about a 79 degrees field of view on the 4k settings, with the Hero 5, a black you’re.

Looking at about sixteen point, eight millimeter lens now, with that a wide perspective, you are going to see some lens distortion and it doesn’t look as flat or even as cinematic as some of the footage that you’re going to see automatic probe. But if you do want to shoot with a more closer, more cinematic perspective without too much lens distortion, you’re going to have to bump down the resolution too, a quad-hd which will give you around an 81 degrees field of view with less overall distortion will certainly look A lot better than a more wider perspective, but the cool thing about the GoPro 5 is that gives you more options. With the vantage point: it’s certainly a more dedicated camera for a lot of different types of videography and photography, so it certainly has more features. Then the built in camera that the Mavic has, but generally speaking when it comes overall video quality, sharpness and color rendition, they’re both pretty much on par with each other.

Now, in terms of the battery performance and overall flight time, atom, avek pearl is certainly a lot better. It’S rated for 27 minutes and the Karma being a much more heavier and has a lot more components to power up in the air. It’S going to generally give you about 20 minutes of flight time at best and additionally, because the Mavic pro has the smaller 3800 milliamp power battery compared to 51 milliamp hour battery on the Karma. The your charge time is also going to be about half on the Mavic pro, so certainly the more endurance flight time friendly drone.

Apart from that, when it comes to the price aspect of things, the Maverick pro retails for just under the thousand dollar mark versus with the hero, 5 camera bundled and you’re, looking about 1140 karma without the camera you’re looking about 800 dollars. So it gives you a little bit of an idea in terms of how both things stack up in terms of value, but besides that guys, that’s really, as you can see from a versatility standpoint, a certainly go pro gives you a little bit more options, because it’s Using that standardized GoPro camera, you can use it for a multitude of a different applications in scenarios versus the Mavic is kind of a great aerial compact photography platform and, if you’re going to use it for that, there’s absolutely no problems with it whatsoever. In fact, I think, because of its compact form factor, it is probably one of the best fully featured drones period. That being said, the convenience that the Karma presents is certainly very very appealing because of the modular design of begin bowl, since you can take it off the drone and use it with a stabilizing platform and that it comes with.

It definitely becomes a very versatile filmmaking solution, let alone the great overall video quality that you get with the GoPro, but really, besides that, it’s going to come down to your personal preferences and your needs. Hopefully, this video gave you some sort of direction to go to and if you like this video, please give us a thumbs up check out the description down below for all the detail, links about everything we talked about, and I than that.
