Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “Google Pixel 6”.
For years, fans of the pixel line have been asking google to do the right thing to make a change, that’s going to save the brand and they did, and the pixel 5 is here, but along the way, it appears that people stopped caring about the pixel 5. And don’t confuse that the pixel 5 being a bad phone, because it is most definitely a really good phone, but out of rumors of the pixel 6 coming google’s got a chance to continue down the path they started with the pixel 5 and possibly deliver not only A really good phone, but a phone people are really going to want. So traditionally, we’ve seen the pixel launches around the october time frame, so we’re still significantly far out, but that never stops rumors from dropping for what we’re going to see with the next gen phone. So all signs are pointing to the pixel 6 being for lack of a better term. Let’S call it an s year, phones so looking very similar in design to the pixel 5, keeping the same essential dimensions as the pixel 5, but stepping up the stuff you’d expect using the next-gen processor from qualcomm, the successor to the 765g, probably improved, ram, bigger battery And things that are small stepped improvements that make it ultimately kind of faster and more reliable product. I think if there was one area that google could separate, the phones at least make it seem different. It would have come down to the design and i don’t mind the pixel 5 design i think, like all pickles before it is very utilitarian. It’S utility first and design. Second beauty is crazy, subjective, we’ll, probably see a couple new coats of paint on the back pixel.
Six in the box, and that’s going to be it personally, i as a fan of technology. I love things that physically look different, although i’m also a realist and we can’t get that every single year. So all the design stuff aside, if there’s been one thing, that the pixel has been incredible at groundbreaking and i think elevating the entire smartphone landscape uh. It’S cameras and they’ve made some questionable, like lensing choices, opting to go telephoto instead of wide and then reversing that i think on the pixel 6 and the rumors tend to back this up.
We will see all three camera sensors on there. So your standard wide angle, your ultra wide and the telephoto, we don’t know what the the zoom is going to be on the telephoto, but at least you should have all three options being built in i’d also like to see them. Take a more serious look at video. The pixel 5 was actually a relatively big step up for video fidelity uh for the pixel line.
We’Ve seen how good qualcomm’s current flagship processor, the snapdragon 888 is at handling video. The hope, with this new mid-range processor, coming up it’ll be as good as last year’s flagship, the 865, which, in its own right, was a pretty big video powerhouse. So i would expect a huge improvement in video fidelity, uh and frame rates with the pixel six. One change that rumors are backing up, which i don’t necessarily feel is necessary.
Uh is the screen. The pixel 5 has a 90hz refresh screen. I love the fact that it’s got a higher refresh 90’s been fine, especially for the price, but the rumors saying it’s going to go to 120 hertz on the 6. in the last rumor, and this one i think, is really going to happen. I will see the return of the xl model for the pixel 6.. I got a lot of thoughts on that i’m gon na get to all right. So that’s the six following the rumor mill.
My hope is that there are more surprises in store for what the six can do, and these are things that are not based on any sort of rumor or any sort of fact. It’S things that i personally would love to see in the pixel 6, especially if it stays at that 700 price point. So first, i would love to see an in-display fingerprint reader make its way to the pixel line. I don’t mind it on the back, but the ultrasonic ones, especially from qualcomm, have gotten so good and so fast they’re now almost off the shelf parts. I love to see that make its way into the pixel 6. and i might be in the minority. I really like the facial, unlocking that google had with last gen’s pixel 4.. I mean i didn’t necessarily like the big notch up top, but it worked really well, i’m a sucker for good facial, unlocking uh so having redundancy for biometrics, whether you’re wearing a mask. You can use the in-display having choice i always like having so i like to see that make its return and not just using a selfie camera, it’s sort of not very secure, but using some form of radar or light.
It gives you a really secure face unlock. I think would be really nice uh. I don’t think google needs to go 120 hertz, i think 90 would be fine. I like to see a new design as well just something different that screams.
This is a new phone, not just an updated version of the one that we sold last year. What’S really interesting about the pixel line now and then the pixel 6 is google’s own product line. So before the a line was a thing i think most people were hoping, google would take. The phones down price point, give them a bit mid-range specs, but also have all that sort of google software magic. That goes along with it and they did that and it was awesome, but then they also have the a line that’s out now and i think the pixel 5 hasn’t achieved the success google hoped well because the a-line is there. Essentially, these phones are very similar. Now they do take things down a little bit got a plastic body, lower quality screen single camera, but at the price point of 349 and as opposed to the pixel 5 google selling a ton of these. It’S the number one selling phone on amazon. When you compare the price point of 349 for the a versus 6.99 for the 5 becomes a harder thing to justify, you could almost get two pixel a’s for the price of one pixel five, and that might explain why google is just not moving that many fives And the biggest reason that the a-line is the top number one selling phone on amazon is google software, it’s so good that it runs perfectly on either of the phones. It almost doesn’t matter which one you are using. So why would people spend again almost double the money to get to five when you’re getting essentially the exact same software experience on the a so in a world where the a-line didn’t exist and google lowered the price on the pixel 5? I think they would have sold millions more.
Perhaps it would have been in the top two or three phones on amazon, but the a does exist and it doesn’t appear to be going away so with all those rumors of the six coming out and it appears to be a good phone. What else can google do to the six to separate it from the a and, i think get it the attention that a phone of that quality and experience deserves? So i think where google should start is with the xl line i mentioned. I was going to talk about that more.
We now, with the a have the lower of the low end with the 5 and the six coming you’ve got the mid-range covered round out the line uh make the xl that rumored ultra pixel, the flagship, the halo car that gets people into the dealership and ultimately End up buying something: that’s not that flagship car, but gets them excited about the capabilities, the things that ultimately will make their way downstream. It is the perfect time for the ultra pixel to come back debut itself in pixel 6. Xl form it’d be an amazing time for the rumored google silicon to make its debut to give us a camera system that google is clearly capable of to blow samsung blow apple out of the water to flex with their hardware and software. Give us an amazing, wide angle: amazing ultra wide give us that 10 times, telephoto zoom make video an absolute priority and just show that google is king of cameras for a reason and they’ve learned over the years. Give us that high refresh rate screen give us a new body, a new design that says we care about design. We care about your experience and how this phone feels in the hand and now you’ve got the look and feel to match that amazing premium software experience.
So you can tell like i’m i’m excited, i am still very much a pixel fan and the fact they don’t sell that many phones is unfortunate. People are missing out on a really solid package of hardware and software. This ultra pixel could be the phone that gets people excited about google’s mobile hardware again and that’s why i feel so passionate about it. But exhaling uh for a minute and kind of rant aside having the ultrapixel would certainly have a filtered down effect and people would start searching the google store for the pixel, the pixel 6xl, whatever they decide to ultimately call it, and i think, we’ll start to see The value in what the pixel 6 is and what the next generation a is and ultimately you’ll choose to pick those phones up over over an iphone over a samsung or whatever other phone they’re cross shopping.
The phones are that good. They just need more attention, and this rumored ultra pixel or the xl whatever it is, could be just the thing to give it that what’s kind of fun about the pixel line is that it does appear that google is listening to the consumers. People were upset about having telephoto over ultrawide and google reversed that they were upset with the price play the pixel and google lowered it. So if they’re happy selling a million phones a year, then don’t listen to this video and other voices similar to mine. But it does appear that google’s got an eye towards really making a mass-market phone and making the pixel the de facto android phone for everybody. So this is an awesome opportunity to let our voices be heard. Let google know what you would like to see, and maybe it’s not the excel ultra pixel and maybe there’s something else in the pixel 6 that you would like to see but shoot your shot. Google is clearly listening and i love when big companies like that listen to their consumers, because generally we end up getting a really really solid product that people are ultimately going to want to buy. .
