The google pixel 5a is arguably one of the most popular phones to come out of last year, but here we are in 2022, almost a year since the pixel 5a’s launch – and now you may be wondering – does the pixel 5a stack up to phones currently available well Over the last six weeks, my colleague andrew grush decided to use the pixel 5a as this daily driver to find the answer. I’M harley martin with android authority, and in this article we are going to be taking a look at how the google pixel 5a holds up in 2022. One aspect of the pixel 5a that still holds up well in 2022 is its design. The pixel 5a is the most durable device in the pixel, a series: sporting, a metal, unibody enclosure with a soft, almost plastic-like finish on the back, and while it may not look as premium as the glass back of the pixel, 6 or 6 pro. I will say, though, that the pixel 5a does get designed bonus points. For one reason, it still has a headphone jack. Overall, the design of the 5a seems to hold up quite well in 2022. It may not be the glass sandwich.
You’Ve come to expect from premium phones like the pixel 6 and its display might not be the best out there, but it still gets the job done for everyday use by the way. What makes the pixel 5 vs battery life so good is twofold.
For starters, the 4 680 milliamp hour battery is bigger than most flagships out there, even bigger than the pixel 6.. Second, the pixel 5s 1080p panel and mid-tier processors aren’t exactly battery guzzlers. According to my colleague andrew, he easily got two days worth of battery life when using pixel 5a for everyday tasks like texting and scrolling through social media.
The battery did drop down faster when using more intensive apps like mobile games and streaming. However, it only dropped to about a day and a half’s worth of charge, which really isn’t that bad pixel phones may not have the latest and greatest in specs. But that’s because they’ve got a secret weapon.
It’S software and if you like, a more pure android experience, then the pixel 5a certainly offers that the pixel ui is clean and as close to stock android, as you can get even better software editions that google ads actually tend to be really useful too. For example, call screening makes it really easy to deal with telemarketers without having to answer directly the pixel 5a ships with android 11, although it can be updated to android 12.. Also android 13 beta is also fully supported by the pixel 5a, which means that the latest version of android should come to the device shortly after its official launch. When it comes to the pixel 5 ace camera, it does an okay job compared to phones that you’ll find in 2022 and while the pixel 5a still uses the same camera sensor found in the pixel 3 series.
The photos you get from the 5a are actually still quite good. It may not be 2022 flagship good, but you’d be hard-pressed to find a much better camera at the pixel 5a’s price. The pixel 5a does well with the basics producing accurate colors and, above average exposure levels, photos also, sport, a fairly wide dynamic range and night shots managed to hold up pretty well thanks to google’s night sight mode. fast forward to 2022 and the processor still does a pretty good job, with simple tasks like browsing or scrolling through social media. In fact, my colleague andrew claims that the pixel 5a feels just as fast as his pixel 6 during everyday use, but when it came to playing more intensive games like real racing 3 or fortnite, the 5a’s performance started to lag behind. The games were still playable, but andrew felt that things started to slow down a bit. He also noticed that the device would sometimes overheat during use granted. This mostly happened when he was outdoors, but it did happen at least once when using the phone indoors and whether he was playing a game or using the camera. The phone displayed an overheating message more often than not, which isn’t really an issue he had when he used this pixel 6..
Besides that the performance of the pixel 5a is decent in 2022, though far from being the fastest phone out there. If you’re, upgrading from an older flagship like the pixel 3 xl you’ll, find that the pixel 5a is just as fast or slightly faster. If you want even more performance out of your next phone, then you may want to consider coughing up the cache for the pixel 6 or waiting for the pixel 6a charging speed is another aspect of the pixel 5a that hasn’t really held up in 2022, while the Large battery capacity is excellent for battery life. It takes over two hours to charge from zero to one hundred percent with the 18 watt charger.
Not only is this slower than today’s flagships, but several budget options like the samsung galaxy a53 5g edges out the pixel 5a’s charging speeds like just a little. Is this a big concern not really, and if you plug your phone in every night, then you’ll never notice. This as a major issue, however, if you are one to use your phone all the way near to depletion, then you’re gon na need to be patient when charging this phone up.
Looking at the pixel 5a’s value in 2022. This is when the story gets a little tricky. The pixel 5a’s biggest competition is the pixel 6a, which features a new design and performance improvements.
All for the same price tag, then there’s the samsung galaxy a535g, which is priced the same and in some ways, is actually a better phone than the pixel 5a, the a535g sports a 120hz display longer software support, guarantee and faster charging speeds. However, if camera quality is your priority, then we argue that the pixel 5a is still a better option and jumping across the pawn for a bit. There is also the iphone se. Its design may be old, especially with its cramped display, but underneath is a very powerful phone with a reliable camera and great software support. Now, there’s no denying that the pixel 5a is a good phone, but it’s not necessarily the best value in 2022. So, back to the question at hand, does the pixel 5a ultimately hold up in 2022? Yes, it’s not the fastest phone out there, nor does it have the best camera quality or display, but it still performs everyday tasks without any major hiccups.
And if you currently own a pixel 5a, it may be worth holding onto the phone for at least another year. If you’re upgrading from an older phone, then it’s probably wise to just wait until the pixel 6a is released or save up the extra 150 dollars for the pixel 6.. But if you want to pick up a secondhand pixel 5a for cheap, then rest assured that the device will be more than capable as your daily driver, at least for a few years, but i’m curious.
