Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “Gaming at 1440p Ultra in 2023 — Do You Need a New PC? — World of Warships”.
Hello and welcome to Tech deals, World of Warships, 1440p, maximum detail on a nine-year-old CPU and a five-year-old graphics card. Why in the world, are we testing this you ask World of Warships is a live service game and thus it gets updated over time. It is very easy to point to benchmarks that I have run on this level of Hardware in World of Warships five years ago and say seriously man you’re doing the same thing again. You’Re testing the same game. What’S the point? Well, it is not the same game.

The game that was available to play five years ago is dramatically different to the game today, and so, whenever you look at benchmarks of live service games, be it World of Warships, World of Tanks, be it fortnite, Apex, Legends Battlefield, Call of Duty. Those games change over time and you cannot just assume that a benchmark from two years ago, four years ago, six years ago, is going to be reflective and relevant as it would be played today. Now it might be sometimes games don’t get a lot of updates. Sometimes they just get maintenance updates over time, but take a game like Star Wars, the Old Republic. It recently got a complete update to a 64-bit client. They finally ditched 32-bit windows, and that is after more than 10 years on the market. That game has received minor graphical updates over the years, but the change to 64-bit is a whole new engine. So if you look at some of the Star Wars, the Old Republic benchmarks, I’ve done in the past, you can’t apply any of those to anything today.

I would need to go back and re-test that game as it exists today to find out how well it plays now that game has kind of been a maintenance mode for a while, and I don’t know that a ton of you would care leave me a comment Down below, if you would instead we’re going to talk about World of Warships, which definitely is in active development to take all of your money, but not for loot boxes, because they’ve, mostly gotten rid of loot boxes and replaced them with a bunch of other ways. To take your money, but that’s not the point of this video. I do understand the anger and hatred over that. Initially I wasn’t bothered by loot boxes is I I got a little bit of pushback from viewers as well from those of you who gave me feedback. Thank you. I will say that initially, when they first came out, I wasn’t bothered it wasn’t until some time had passed, I’d gone through several rounds of them that I sort of started to go well, I made me change my mind about this.

Also board. Gaming did a few things there that definitely helped change my mind as well, but but again not the point of this video. The point is to see how well World of Warships plays on older Hardware at high levels of detail, and we are now almost three minutes into this video and if you do not know, the answer is really really well.

You haven’t been looking at the screen. You’Ve. Just been listening to me speak, we are getting over a hundred frames per second.

In fact, at the moment we are averaging 134 frames per second now the average will be slightly lower than that spoiler alert. We will finish with 131 frames per second average 86 on the one percent low, so we’re almost there already now before. We continue.

Please give me 60 seconds to help pay the bills. It would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all so much for sticking with me.

Through that spoiler alert. I am sitting in the black on black e-win chair as I am voicing this over. It is up in my main filming room.

You can’t see it when I’m filming videos, but I actually have an editing computer off to the side with three monitors and a microphone which is what I’m speaking to you on. If any of you have ever wondered why my voice sounds slightly differently in these voiceover videos versus the on camera? Videos, it’s physically a different microphone. The microphone I use for the on-camera videos is a very, very, very nice Audio Technica.

It runs directly into our Panasonic gh5 camera via an XLR connection, and that was a whole lot of money. I think it was six hundred dollars. It’S an expensive microphone. The microphone you’re listening to me on right now is a Blue Yeti. It’S the one.

I’Ve covered many times in many deals over the years. They typically can be found for around a hundred dollars, sometimes they’re a bit more, but usually sales deals, Prime day Black Friday, that kind of stuff. Usually you can find the blackout Edition for 99, sometimes with a free game, and sometimes you can get the bundle that includes the arm mount the shock mount all for about 200 or so it’s not as good as a more expensive microphone, but for an awful lot Of people, it definitely does the job. So, regarding the sponsor.

Okay, this part isn’t sponsored I’m just saying this, because I want to I’m actually sitting in that e-win chair and I I like them. I that’s why we still work with them. They’Re comfortable, I use them and I have no complaints. We’Ve reviewed chairs from nine different gaming companies – and this is the only one that we accept sponsors with and I have been offered from the others so anyway back to the game. So the CPU and GPU up on the screen, you’ll notice, are not maxed out. You might be asking yourself why shouldn’t one of them be the bottleneck they are.

The CPU is the bottleneck. Our i7 4790k is what is preventing us from running any faster but Tech. How is that possible we’re not at 100 CPU utilization? Well, if you’ve watched these videos before you’ve heard this speech, the only way to reach 100 CPU utilization is to have all the threads fully utilized. Very few games will properly utilize hyper threads.

They will use cores but not hyper threads. If we had an i5 4690k a 4 core four thread CPU, then the CPU would be much closer to 100 utilized the basically divide the number of threads into 100 and you’ll get the percentage. Each thread is using A4 core four thread: it’s 25, a four core eight thread, which is what the i7 4790k is, is 12.5 percent per thread, so we’re not quite using all four cores. However, this game doesn’t really use more.

To be honest, if we had an eight core, CPU it’d make absolutely no difference. What we need is higher instructions per clock cycle or a higher clock speed. If this were on an I3 13 100, for example, we would be getting higher frame rates.

Four cores eight threads, but much faster clock speed. It’S not technically a raptor like the 13100 is actually alder-like. You have to go up to, I believe it’s the 13 500 or the 13600k. As I voice this over. To be honest with you, I forget which one is the delineator, but the I5 13 400 is actually an alder Lake chip. You’Ve got to go a little bit higher on the marks to get the rap delay chips, not that it matters or, for example, you could be on a ryzen, 5, 5600 or 5600x, and the Zen 3 chip would also give you much better performance in the game. Like this, the graphics card, we have an RTX 2080 TI and the primary reason the 2080 TI is here is simply to remove the graphics card as the primary bottleneck.

Now some of the games I have tested here, the graphics card is still the limiting factor. I could obviously put an RTX 4090 on this, but that’s absurd in the extreme. Nobody. Nobody should be putting anything remotely close to that on a system like this, I would argue, the 2080 TI is maybe even a little bit too much. The GTX 1080 TI is probably the perfect match for the system or an RTX, 2070 or maybe even an RTX, 3070 or even 3060 would be a very nice match, or an AMD RX 6700 XT. If you’re buying a card in 2023. That thing is a killer deal and for about 300 you get yourself a 12 gigabyte, vram card and really close performance to what you’re watching here. In fact, in some games due to newer drivers and newer architecture and Technology, the 6700 XT may beat the 2080 TI slightly, but you’ll get this level of performance for about 300 bucks.

In any case, as you can see, there’s just no issue the frame time graph is smooth. The frame rate is good. I’Ve got a lot of stuff going on, secondaries are firing, I’m shooting at ships. I could sit here and voice over the entire game.

This recording is a lot longer than eight minutes, so I’m not going to do that. Instead, I’m just going to say thank you very much for watching. I. I appreciate your support for those of you who watch all of these little game Benchmark videos.

It really does help. I need more likes and more views on these things, so if any of you are playing games – and you got a second monitor – these are all in a playlist linked down in the video description below. If you hit those playlists and just let it run in the background, while you’re playing the game or something, it really would support the channel and it’s a great way to support the channel at no extra cost to you, letting these videos run while you’re playing a Game or doing something else, just listen to my voice. In the background, I do actually think if you hit mute in the web browser on the player, I actually don’t think the view counts. You can turn your speakers down, of course, but then your game is turned down, but I do believe that it actually doesn’t count the view.

I think twitch does the same thing as well. Now that I think of it, if you mute twitch, then you’re not counted as a viewer after 60 seconds, or maybe it’s 90 seconds. I forget what the time interval is, but of course, they’re not silly a bunch of people with a bunch of streams running in multiple tabs, all muted don’t count as views, so they figured out a little trick out in any case.
