Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “Flight Simulator 2020 — Why Am I Not Benchmarking It? — Former Supporter Exclusive”.
Hello and welcome to a very special member exclusive video microsoft flight simulator 2020.. This is just a fun bonus video! It’S about nine minutes long, where i played in a king, yara, 350 twin engine turboprop airplane, flying around the dallas fort worth area, getting into some crazy antics. This does not have any benchmarks in it. It doesn’t have any special, deep insights.
There’S nothing crazy here, other than sort of a fun behind the scenes. Video of some footage that i recorded. While i was messing about with flight simulator 2020 and trying to see what kind of performance i could get, what the various options were and getting familiar with it before doing anything else, my original plan was to do some benchmarking.
With this game, i was going to include it in my suite of games to be benchmarked for the upcoming 20 plus gpu roundup 2020 edition 20 cards in 2020, probably published on december 20th, or something crazy like that. I don’t think november 20th is gon na happen. Given the launch days of big navi and everything else, what you’re actually watching here is the real time loading it. This game really does take a while to load, and this was being played not that it makes any difference on my workstation at the office. My i9 10 80 xc 18 core 36 thread beast with 128 gigs of ram and more nvme storage. Then you can take a stick at. However, it was being recorded on this computer. Not an external capture card obs was using the nvenc encoder, and so that takes a little bit something away from the performance. Let’S just say, this thing is not the most optimized game in history.
It is gorgeous, however, that king air looks beautiful. The ground looks beautiful. The runway looks beautiful the terrain and buildings look beautiful. What more do you want now? I’Ve since played with this some more and i’ve, actually published another video over on the roguetech gaming channel, showing a 747 flying around, and i’ve also done a cessna 172 flying around new york to show the terrible performance around the buildings there. So this is a third video that i had it there’s really nothing here worth a published.
You know formally published video. I thought about it. I thought nah come on. I i don’t have anything useful to add here.
So this is a bonus video. This is just something quick that i am voicing over and saying hi to everybody. It gives me a chance to give you some updates chat casually, not worry about hello and welcome to tech deals. This is a formal presentation and whatever we’re just going to have some fun here, we’re going to take a look at some sandy hectics and i’m going to talk to you a bit about why flight simulator 2020 is not in my benchmark, suite, first and foremost, installing Flight simulator 2020 takes a long time even on my internet connection, because it uses microsoft’s proprietary loader. Yes, that look at the sol the lens flare, jj abrams would be so proud. You can even see the window where you can well in the real airplane.
You can little open a window and get some uh get some air in if you want to it’s very, very cool, so we’re going to go take off from the runway here, but that’s not really the point. Why am i not including this? Because it uses their dedicated patching program even on my gigabit fiber connection? It takes forever to download this game and then, of course, every time they’ve got an update or a patch, because it’s a live game continuously being updated. There’S even more data to be transmitted given the size of the game and the need for a disk cache in order to prevent uh buffering from being an issue, i would need to pre-download there’s an option in the game to pre-download a region. You can actually go on the map and select an area that you want to force download to the cache.
I would effectively have to dedicate between 250 gigabytes and maybe 500 gigs of ssd space to cash the entire. Well, you know, i probably wouldn’t do dollars fort worth. To be completely honest, i mean i i live here, but that doesn’t mean that everybody watching the videos cares. I would probably do new york city why it’s the most demanding and most challenging to cash, new jersey, manhattan, the islands, the shores, the bronx and basically the the greater new york city area. I imagine would take some 500 gigs now some of you are going to say, but tech you’ve got plenty of ssd space.
Don’T you? Yes, i do sort of, but not on every test bench. You want me to test this on just my i9. 10.
900K yeah. Okay, i could do that. I could do it for a graphics card roundup in comparison, but one of the questions many people are going to have is well what about cpus? What cb do i need? How does it work on an i7 8700k, an i7 7700k an i7 2600k wait, a minute tech. How does this work on an fx? 8300, a ryzen? 5. 1600, a ryzen, 7 2700x. How does this work on an i5 4590k? Oh great, so you want me to install this game on 15 different computers.
Oh my goodness, i would actually have to add storage to a lot of those computers in order to do that. Yes, the flying’s terrible, it’s just there for some fun. The game is absolutely beautiful, though it is unbelievably stunning.
I am i’m trying not to shout and peak the microphone to be honest with you uh. It is the difference between this and the last version of flight. Simulator is night and day. It is a revolutionary achievement. What they’ve managed to accomplish is nothing short of holy crap. This is amazing.
So if you like simulations, if you’re interested in this game, but by all means uh, first of all, you you get the base game for free in the watchman who’s in the game pass. So it doesn’t cost you very much in order to get access to it and all the other games that come with it or you could of course buy a copy. It is.
It is so detailed and so beautiful – and i just i can’t say enough, good things about it. Of course you really need a joystick. The keyboard is pretty crappy, you need a joystick or a flight yoke, preferably a hands-on throttle and stick with rudder pedals and it gets kind of complicated if you get into it.
So if i were to include this in my test suite, i would literally have to add storage to at least half a dozen computers. I’Ve got an x 470 test bench for first gen ryzen chips. I’Ve got a an x 570 test bench for the newer stuff.
I’Ve got a dedicated i7 7700k computer for testing a 4790k computer for testing on a z97 motherboard. I’Ve got a i7 2600k computer built for testing on a z68 motherboard, i’m probably not going to bother with the first generation at this point. Maybe it’s silly. If you’re on one of those it’s time to upgrade and if you don’t want to upgrade or can’t afford it, then fine, but you don’t need benchmarks to tell you you’re you’re, on an old platform and then i’ve got the standalone fx 8300 and then i’ve got The um i9 9900k test bench and i9 10 900k test bench, and this is not an easy game to keep updated.
And i would have to make sure that i have the same area cached and downloaded on every machine and because the game has no benchmark built. In i’d have to be very careful to try to fly. If i flew in new york city, i have to fly the same route. Yeah, there’s replays, but live gameplay is more effective in terms of producing repeatable results that we can really compare back to back. To back to back back so i mean: do i set up an autopilot? Do i have the ai fly it? Do i it to do this in the way that i think deserves to be done would be a lot of work and in the time it would take me to do flight simulator 2020 properly. I could do probably five other games so as much as you guys. All want to see some benchmarking on this game it. It’S probably not gon na happen, it’s cool, but it just it’s just a monster to test, and so okay, that was an ill-advised dive, pull up, aruka, rook and i’ve. Don’T dive, don’t dive, pull up, pull up? Okay, that’s just not gon na anyway yeah, we over stressed the airframe thanks. Everybody appreciate your support, love! You all see you next time.
