So it’s been a couple of days and there’s been another launch this time, the RTX 3050.. I received the EVGA-XC black edition card.. Now this launch went off this card’s supposed to be $ 249.. That’S what you know they’re saying is the MSRP, but truthfully I wan na just throw this card because in many ways I’m totally utterly disgusted with this launch and what’s going on.. So let’s talk tech and while I really feel that video card reviews at this point are almost just a completely moot point and almost useless so but still, let’s talk tech. Now, like I said, the card that I received was this card right here..
This is an RTX-XC black card. That’S supposed to be $ 249, even though NVIDIA claims that $ 249 is the entry-level price. Here you can see the prices of the different cards and sure an entry-level one does cost $ 249 supposedly, but you can see these cards go all the way up to $ 499 if you want to get a card from ASUS, so it’s just crazy.
Now everything That you need comes inside the box of the card, which is pretty much just the card these days, no adapters, no, nothing! It’S just the card itself. The card features a two-fan design.. It has no back plate., It’s pretty much.
The entry-level entry-level of all the cards., The card slides in about seven inches., It’s a two-slot design, requires a minimum of a 550 watt power supply which is kind of a lot for an entry-level card.. It has a TGP of 130 watts.. This card is made on the GA106 silicon..
This is the same silicon that they’re using in their laptop chips. I believe. 2,560 CUDA cores 80 texture units 32 ROPs..
It features 80 second-generation tensor cores and 20 second-generation RT cores.. Now the base clock of a reference model 3050 is 1,552 megahertz and has a boost clock speed of 1,777 megahertz.. The card also features eight gigabytes of GDDR6 memory and 128-bit memory interface.. The card also has a single eight pen power connector, but, like I said, you need at least a 550 watt power supply for this card..
Now, here’s, though, where I really ran into some problems and you’ll see why.. My card came with the wrong BIOS installed and had a boost clock that was topping off right about 1,850 megahertz, but this BIOS was intended for a card with a back plate and that had better heat, dissipation and higher clocks.. Now this will give the card a different score between two and 4 % better, but all real cards will have the correct BIOS installed when you buy them at you know a retail market.. This card is still made on the Samsung eight-nanometer process and basically, like I said this card should come to market at $ 249.. That’S where the problems kind of began and then other problems were that I had tested this card fully and I was unable completely to get ahold of a 6500 XT to test it against.. So here’s my dilemma guys. Okay, First of all, I get a card.. This card’s clocked completely wrong..
The card is clocked at a higher clock rate, which means that if I basically posted, I feel this review with these scores. They’Re wrong period., I’m right in the middle of moving to Indiana, which I’ll do another video on and I’m right in the middle of packing everything up. Barely even having my studio going because I got ta pack, all these amps and everything up today and get them Moved by Monday., So ( chuckles ).
It really put me in a bad place.. I didn’t wan na put the review out and then have other people go. “, Oh well, the card’s kind of running at that.. I should clock it at that.” Then. Have their card burn out and have people complain to EVJ and to me saying “? Oh well, you know you posted your review of it and you know, and your review had a higher clock, speed ,”, but beyond all that I’ve gone out and I’ve read all kinds of articles have watched videos and seen all kinds of things. So I’m gon na bring you guys kind of a different type of review this time, and this is a review just basically on me, judging things and watching things that are going on.. So, first off the card that I had clocked wrong, wasn’t able to receive a 6500 XT, which is the direct competition which makes you know. Making a video with just one score and testing against other cards really doesn’t make any sense.. That’S the first thing, which is why I’m not just gon na bring a bunch of scores, but I’m gon na talk to you guys about it and here’s what it is..
Like usual, a 6500 XT and a 3050 go pretty much back and forth in gaming.. That’S how it is. Now the RTX 3050 is a direct replacement for the GTX 1650.. Now the GTX 1650, it was based on Turing architecture..
This is based on Ampere.. Obviously, what you’re really getting is all of the technical advances. You’re, getting all the RT cores. All the ray tracing stuff, the DLSS – you know all that stuff and we all know that really DLSS is the sweet spot for NVIDIA.. The other technical advances I mean shiny stuff is cool. A lot of people just think it’s gimmicky and turn it off.. You know it’s not the biggest thing, but we all know the DLSS is a big thing and when DLSS is engaged with many of the top games, you’re going to get a lot more frames per second than you were getting before and comparing it to a 1650. I’M sure that the card is not going to be extremely just faster in non RTX games..
It’S not gon na be like a speed demon ahead of that. But the thing is: if you’re playing any of the latest games, it’s going to play them a lot better and play them with better graphics and that’s what it’s all about., But here’s where I’m really really pissed off at the end of the day about this launch. Okay – And this is stuff – and why and honestly I almost just did not want to post this review at all, because I was really angry and you’ll see. Why.
Cards are selling on eBay as well for $ 600 599.. Here’S the links., It ain’t, no ( horn, honking ), my friends.. These cards are selling for that price.. So why are these guys doing it I’ll tell you why? Because they know that they can – and it’s just ridiculous.
Now to buy a video card when it comes out. You know. I honestly think that saying “, Oh, the MSRP is 249 “. It’S just ( horn, honking )! It’S like I’m just talking. ( horn, honking ) from my mouth., It’s like poop is flowing and I don’t mean to be that way, but it’s just how it is. The poop is flowing because in reality reality these cards aren’t 249.
They’re just not.. Most of these cards are selling for 600 bucks.. There have been a couple that have sold for lower yeah, but now we’re seeing the average is about $ 600 online, which is more than double. Double would be $ 500 499.. This is more than double and it’s ridiculous.. This is an entry-level card., They’re gon na be a lot of people out there watching this video are going to be you’re going “ Elric, you know what It’s a straight up.
Fucking NVIDIA. This card should be $ 149.”. You know what You guys are probably right, but the way the market is and the way that everything is going nowadays we’re just getting screwed. And it makes it almost to the point of like posting up a video card review and doing all that stuff is almost Worthless., I just feel like in a lot of ways it’s worthless, because I wan na bring you guys good information and bring stuff to the table. That’S good. But when you can’t really even buy a card for a normal price, and you know that all the information that I’m gon na give you is just going to basically be a slap in the face when you go to buy the card. It’S kind of an iffy market., Like I said, I’m sure there are a few people out there that will be able to get their hands on the card, but the rest of us we’ll be paying the gouging price.. That’S just how it is..
I was lucky enough to get a sample.. I’M gon na give this sample away to somebody in my family who needs a video card because they wan na game, and we all know how the market is.. So here’s how it is though.. This is really the reality of the situation., The RTX 3050. The one I got is an XC black card.. It’S the entry level card. In normal testing that I did, though, looking at other people’s reviews.
It comes in back and forth with the new card from AMD.. Now AMD and NVIDIA, these guys are always going back and forth.. I don’t know if they like communicate with each other, but it seems like they do because no real card ever it seems like just comes out and smokes anybody else.. You know there are some instances where the AMD 6500 XT is actually doing better, and there are, you know more of the 3050s doing better. Like we know a lot of these gaming companies work with what the you know, the video card manufacturers and a lot of Times those games work better with those video cards. You’ve seen it better played with NVIDIA.. You know what I mean It’s just that way, so those certain games are going to be that way.. So, depending on the games that you play it’s going to be probably depending on what cards you would get., I would always suggest going out and watching everybody’s reviews. Reading as many articles as possible to grasp your head around, what’s going on. Now, my particular card I do have to say, though, ran very cool and very quiet..
It only topped out at 60 Celsius, which gives you plenty of headroom for overclocking and stuff like that.. The overclocking headroom on this card is actually really nice., So you know if you’re looking for a nice card, you can get one for a retail price.. If you could find this card for $ 249, it’s a damn good deal, solid, editor’s choice card on that particular front, good card.! It’S not the companies that I’m angry about.
I do wish EVGA would not have sent me a card, though that was you know, posted at a much higher clock speed so that all my tests, weren’t, like you, know, screwed up. You know Two to 3 % faster’s gon na make people wan na go out and overclock their card or change their BIOS in their card, and I don’t want to be responsible for people frying out their cards and I’m sure EVGA doesn’t either so. I’M gon na have to go back and retest this.. I’Ve been told by AMD that I will be getting a 6500 XT, but it’s going to be like right after the Chinese new year.
So I’ll have all my testing in the box and we’ll redo it at that time. You know So peace out.. I thank you guys for watching.. I know this is a different kind of video, but the points are there: man.
Gouging is there it sucks.? The card itself is okay.. If you can get it at the old retail price good to go.. I would not pay $ 599, though, for an entry-level card no. Peace.
