Emergency Lighting System

Emergency Lighting System

Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “Emergency Lighting System”.
Well, the power’s out again when this happens, most people rely on candles and flashlights, but you still have to find your way around in the dark to get them. It would be really helpful if you had some kind of light that would automatically turn on if the power went out so today, i’m going to show you how to make a simple emergency lighting system. This is the circuit that i designed for this project. It uses an npn switching transistor to monitor the output of a dc power supply. When the power goes out, it then activates a power mosfet that turns on a set of leds. First, i prototype the circuit on a breadboard to test it. I just unplug the power supply once everything is working properly, you’re ready to solder it all together to make the led array i soldered six leds in parallel on a thin strip of perf board. Then i soldered the rest of the parts onto a second piece of perf board. Now you just need to mount all the parts inside a project enclosure.

The first thing that you need to do is drill some mounting holes drill one set of holes in the top side of the housing for the leds, then drill another hole in the side of the housing for the dc power connector. The power connector is held in place with a washer and nut. The rest of the parts are mounted to the inside of the housing with hot glue. Once everything is in place insert the batteries, the leds should immediately light up.

Then, when you connect the power supply, they should turn off again. Your emergency lighting system is now complete whenever the power goes out. The leds will automatically turn on.

This should give you enough light to find your way around the room, because the light is small and lightweight. You can even carry it around with you and use it as an emergency flashlight. Well, that’s how to make a simple emergency lighting system, thanks for watching and check back next week for more diy hacks and how to’s .
