The stalker games take place within an alternate history version of the Chernobyl exclusion Zone based Loosely on the novel roadside picnic by Ary and Boris Str, and the film of the same name stalker by Andre tarkovski in the games. Labs were built in the exclusion Zone to allow scientists to experiment with psychic abilities discovered after the disaster. Their experiments, however, resulted in a second disaster, causing physical and meteorological phenomena to manifest throughout the Zone leading to the mutation of wild animals and humans.
The zone is littered with anomalies, hazardous phenomena which seemingly defy physics having various effects on any object. Entering them, reminiscent of the temporal anomalies in other Sci-Fi TV and movies anomalies, also produce items called artifacts with special physical properties like anti-gravity or radiation absorption stalkers enter the Zone in hopes of finding them for personal and financial gain, while many work alone. Some factions populate the Zone with their own philosophies and goals.
The duty faction believe the zone is the greatest threat to humanity and are intent on destroying it, while the freedom faction believe the Zone should be accessible to all. The Armed Forces of the Ukraine maintain a cordon around the zone to prevent any unauthorized Personnel from entering, but it isn’t perfect. Ukrainian spetznaz units routinely conduct Special Operations within the Zone like surgical strikes on stalkers or to secure specific targets. Other hostiles in the zone are the humans and Wildlife mutated by the disasters.
Lead characters have their own goals separate from any faction, but they are presented opportunities to Aid in the plans of others, while the ultimate objective involves reaching the center of the Zone. The path you choose to take to reach it determines your fate and shapes the future of the Zone. Stalker has been home to players exploring the hostile environment of the Chernobyl anomalous exclusion zone for more than a decade, making stalker to a long awaited sequel to the series aware of the fan favorites. They aim to deliver challenging, combat chilling horror and a thrill of a fight for survival. The exclusion Zone changed dramatically after the second explosion in 2006 and violent mutants deadly anomalies, Waring factions and Ukrainian spetnaz have made the Zone a very tough place to survive turns out.
The center of the Zone holds a source of incredible power and serious threat to the inhabitants.
