Dremel: Tools for Makers

Dremel: Tools for Makers

Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “Dremel: Tools for Makers”.
Hey this is mike we’re at south by southwest create 2015.. I’M here with dan from dremel, who has uh. Dremel’S, got a great booth here, uh with a lot of activities and dan. Why don’t you step us through everything? That’S happening, you bet. We got a great bunch of great projects going on here today, we’re showing off our dremel 3d printer and some of those projects uh over at this station, where we’re gon na start we’re actually making some micro derby cars uh.

The kids have a chance to take a little wooden block. They draw out their pattern using some 3d printed, stencils um. We actually machine it for them. On our dremel moto saw they can do some sanding with the rotary tools uh. Then we made a bunch of other fun 3d printed parts brackets to help them get the wheels on some wheat, some other 3d printed wheels and accessories they complete it. We have a ramp on the other side, so they can race it down and that’s a lot of fun they can get through and have a good time and get a good first experience with dremel tools.

Last year, uh late last year, you guys surprised everybody with a 3d printer how’s how’s dremel 3d moving along you know, dremel 3d is moving along really well. We’Ve had a lot of great support from the people who bought the printer from our distribution. Uh partners who are selling it uh, it’s you know it’s an awesome product to add the lineup like we said before, and it enables people to build and create in a whole new way and then add on to the projects that they already had. So it’s something we’re definitely excited to be in and that we plan on being in for uh for a long while to come. So i’m really interested in a lot of these uh demos and examples that you brought here to the booth um in particular this loom.

Here, that’s really, that’s pretty creative. Tell me the story. Yeah. You bet uh. We had reached out to our friends back in chicago at the school of the art institute of chicago uh.

Dremel: Tools for Makers

They have an awesome educational program and all sorts of different making technologies we’d. Given them a couple of dremel, 3d idea, builders and one of them came up with this. You know micro, loom design, all 3d printed on the dremel printer to be a nice desktop size loom. So we were really really excited when we saw that, because it added a whole nother depth of the things you can do with 3d.

In terms of you know, adding multiple materials and really just you know, capturing the dremel vision for 3d and then you’ve got you’ve got the bracelets over here. These are these are nervous systems, so our friends at nervous system, we’re kind enough to uh to let us show off their designs here. It’S a really fantastic design.

They do some awesome, awesome, organic shapes it all prints out on one bed pop it off the bed and flex it loose, and it creates a really elegant, bracelet design. I don’t know if it’s quite my style, but i know a lot of people are really amazed by the fact that you can print in such fine detail and get the nice moving parts um all in one simple print nervous system does some incredible work, and so You guys are working with them tonight, uh with the yes, they are. They are part of our our art auction tonight, we’re doing an art fundraiser for the the students at austin tinkering school, so we’re helping them get some some idea.

Builders, some tools, as well as some some educational support to just build onto their program here in the austin area, to continue inspiring whole new generations of makers in the future. Very cool – that’s great! I love all this stuff. I think you guys are doing a great job and i’m excited that you’re here and i’m excited to see what uh what 2015 holds for you awesome to be here. We’Re definitely excited to be here at south by southwest it’s actually the first time dremel’s been here. It’S been a great experience so far and we look forward to what comes in the future.

Some great well thanks dan, you .
