DIY Hacks & How To's: Digital Magic 8 Ball

Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “DIY Hacks & How To’s: Digital Magic 8 Ball”.
The magic 8-ball is an amusing toy for speculating about life, so many questions. This can be fun, but it’s somewhat lacking in versatility. So I decided to combine it with the digital picture keychain to make a digital picture magic 8-ball. The first thing that you need to do is to open up the magic 8-ball. The best way to do this is to cut it in half at the scene with a rotary tool. It may take a while, because you have to cut through about a quarter-inch of plastic. Before separating the two halves, I recommend using a piece of tape to mark how they line up once your two halves are separated. You can cut off the support disk with a sharp knife. You can then remove the fluid cylinder. The first thing that you need to add is a piece of clear plastic to seal the opening at the bottom of the magic 8-ball cut out a circle.

That’S the same size as the recess circle on the inside of the opening then glue it in place. Next cut a piece of PVC pipe to be the same length as the bottom half of the magic 8-ball about one and three-quarter inches. I also decided to paint the pipe black to match. The color of the 8-ball then set the pipe on the clear plastic disc that you just installed and glue it in place with clear adhesive apply. A small drop of super glue to the edges of the digital keychain around the screen then place the keychain screen down onto the pipe apply more glue around the edges to help secure it in place in order to reach the buttons you need to glue on some Button extenders to do this, I cut three pieces of a plastic rod that were just long enough to reach the buttons from the outside housing. Then I glued one piece onto each button be very careful to avoid accidentally gluing the button to the side of the keychain.

This can lock the button in place and prevent it from working. Next, we need to cut slots for the button extenders and the USB cable on the top half of the magic 8-ball housing start by lining up the two halves and marking each location, then using a rotary tool cut out a slot for each one. Lastly, you need to glue the two halves back together, apply glue all around the edges of both halves. Try to avoid dripping glue on the outside of the housing then put the two halves back together and clamp them until the glue dries. If you want, you can then polish out any scratches that you made to load pictures onto your digital magic 8-ball, insert the USB connector and plug the other end into your computer.

With my keychain, I was able to load 60 pictures that display a variety of answers. Whenever you want to use the magic 8-ball, just press the power button to begin cycling through pictures when you turn it over, the message that’s currently being displayed is the answer to your question: try it out and have fun and check back next week for more DIY Hacks and how to’s .
