Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “December 2023 Pixel Feature Drop: What’s NEW?!”.
Hey there Android fans, we have a brand new pixel update to dive into it is the December pixel feature update and it includes a lot of new features, bringing a whole host of extra options and enhancements. So here’s everything you need to know one of the most notable additions right up top is the video boost feature, and this was teased back at launch of the pixel 8. It’S actually rolling out right now with this OTA, meaning it’s not quite there for everyone at this stage, but it will be over the coming days as this OTA and Google camera updates do hit more devices. So don’t worry too much if you don’t have it at this stage. Video boost uses an AI algorithm that can enhance the quality of video shot on the pixel8 pro.
Sadly, it is limited to the 8 Pro there’s no word if it will come to older models. The feature can also improve low light, video performance, reducing noise and even sharpening details in those darker portions of video clips, and this process does require a network connection and it’s actually not locally taking place on your device. So it can take a little time before you can actually view the fully processed video and Google photos will actually send a notification when it is ready for you to view. While the original recording will be deleted on your phone to save some space, you will need to enable this feature within the Google camera application settings.
First, though, so you can turn it off, if you do feel that it doesn’t actually help you day-to-day night sight has also been improved, with options to shoot, improved time lapses. So long as your phone is actually placed on a stable base like a tripod – and this means you should get better brighter and more detail Rich images for Pixel fold owners you’re not left out as you can use the dual screen preview mode to see. It is limited, though, to cats and dogs, at least right now, which should cover a lot of you, but it isn’t every single pet that you may have a new balance. Light option has also been added to the portrait light Tool in Google photos, which is designed to remove harsh shadows and just make images more consistent. Another cool feature that is coming to the camera application is the ability to clean up scan documents by removing things like coffee, stains or even creases in the papers that you’ve scanned. You can use a brush to a section of the document like magic, eraser and it’ll. Be removed or minimized. I found the tool. Okay, it’s not quite perfect, like Google’s examples of clean in action, and this actually is similar to what has been available on Google Drive for a few days, or maybe a few weeks since that last update with the December pixel feature drop. You can also use a pixel as an external webcam for your computer or Mac. Now it lets you choose the front facing or rear facing camera and even switch between those lenses, just plug your phone into the computer, and you can choose a a webcam option. I think it works fine with apps like zoom and Google meet, but I will say the quality is not the greatest plus it actually defaults to landscape orientation. This is available, though, for the pixel, 6 and new, and it might be useful to you. Google has been touting its Gemini Nano AI update as a gamechanging option for Pixel processing, and it is baked into recorder with the December update the super slick. Recording application has a new summarized feature which uses Gemini Nano that gives you a brief bullet point list of any of recorded conversations, interviews, presentations and all without requiring a network connection on top of that recorder also now supports a further 28 languages. Gemini, Nano is also set to power, a new smart reply, function which is available in gboard, but it only currently Works in WhatsApp right now. It is able, though, to give you contextual replies or responses for incoming conversations and messages in my own testing, it’s great for quick replies, and it is really good at picking out questions, but it doesn’t work in every single situation a but we’re hoping it will evolve Over time as it learns your responses and how you converse with your contacts, because of some of the AI improvements as well call screen, is getting better contextual replies that should better suit the conversation I mean you don’t need to answer.
The phone yourself directly call screen is also jumped to pixel watch so that you can use it on your wrist here too, which is also another nice addition. That’S not all, though, as a couple of other features have jumped from the pixel Watch 2 to the first G model with synced do not disturb and bedtime modes plus a couple of new watch face designs and complications. Watch unlock is also finally available after being announced at CES last year and when enabled when you bring your watch close to your phone, it will instantly unlock without requiring a pin or passcode another new option, which should be available as part of the pixel featur drop. For December, from the pixel 5A and newer is the updated clock, application which will show local times and weather conditions. If you have regions selected, there’s also an updated home screen. Wi, here too, which just gives you a better snap s, shot of a local and the current time. On top of that, the final new notable change is a repair mode, and this is designed to be used when you send off your phone for repairs and prevents repair technicians from accessing any of your personal data and only gives access to a limited pool of applications.
You need a passcode to get back into your regular phone home screen, but it is also worth noting that you’ll need 2 GB of free space to even enter repair mode. But it’s extra peace of mind when you send something off a repair. No one can snoop through your personal items on your phone and that’s everything you really need to know about the December pixel feature drop. Most of the new functions are frustratingly limited to the Pix 8 Pro, but a lot of less Hardware specific stuff is available for the pixel 6 and newer. The otaa should be rolling out right now to most devices, but you can manually flash this if you’re confident enough to do so, but I want to ask you: what do you think of this update?
