So you’re looking for the best custom launcher for your Android TV device, maybe you’re just fed up of all of these large home screen adverts, maybe you’re, fed up of this slow clunky. Looking UI, maybe you’re. Looking for more customizations custom, wallpapers custom folders ability to hide applications, what’s the best custom launcher that addresses all of these issues well, on my device, I’m currently using the on 4K, if I press the home button, I’m instantly taken to a custom launcher where I can See all of the applications that I want to show I can create custom sections. I have a nice looking wallpaper, which I can fully customize and, of course, without seeing any of those Google AdWords those Android TV home screen AdWords. Now I can really go ahead and customize my home screen and get it looking exactly how I like it so in this article today. Let me show you how you can customize your Android TV home screen and make sure that the next time you press the home button, you can get a launcher. Looking exactly like this, all you need to do is just hit that, like button make sure you hit that subscribe button.
So with all of that being said, let’s get if you’re new to the channel and you want to stay up to date with the latest tech tutorials, the latest fire stick Android and Android TV tips and tricks. So I’m doing my demonstration on the on 4K streaming box, but you can follow this process on any other Android TV device. Now the launcher in question is called the project IV launcher, let’s open that for the first time.
Okay, it says welcome. I can click on the right on the d-pad go through that a few times. Okay, let’s now click on allow that’s done, let’s also click on.
Yes, here and now I need to give the notification access. So let’s turn that on. That’S now done, let’s press back this one, I’m going to say no and I can now click on get started. Let’S get started and we should now be looking at the base or the default in installation of this application, and even out of the box guys it does. Look very very nice, looks very, very clean you’re not going to see any of those sponsored adverts.
Any of those uh sponsored content already my device feels more snappier and more responsive, but let’s now customize this, and let me show you some of the things that you can do so probably the first thing you want to do is create some custom sections. Now the easiest way to do that is, I go over to the top. Let’S click on the Cog wheel and we have two options. We have edit categories and edit channels, let’s go to edit categories, and we can now see some of the default categories like games.
Like TV apps like uh favorites, but I’m going to create a new category, let’s give that a title and I’ll just call that one, maybe uh streaming apps or let’s just call it streaming. So I can use my voice and say streaming. Okay, that’s done, although I would have preferred a capital S, so let me quickly correct that that’s just the OCD in me! Okay, that’s done! Let’S click on next! We want the category to be visible. Let’S leave these defa options and let’s go to manage apps and here we’re basically saying which applications do you want to stick into this category? So I’ll stick some streaming ones like this one, this one, maybe this one, maybe this one.
Maybe this one add in a few more, I think that’s probably about it. Let’S go back now. I personally prefer my applications to be instead of a long line in a grid. So let me turn that on and you can now customize how many cards are in that grid, so let’s basically put all of them on so about there. That looks right to me the size of the tiles. Let’S go with the extra small for the size and you can also adjust the Sorting.
So by default it’s set to custom, you can do alphabetically random. I personally like to do it with L use, so the apps that use more frequently will be at the start of the list or the start of the grid. Let’S set last used. I can now press back back again and we now have this new category called streaming now, for example, this TV apps – I don’t particularly want so I can go over to the left press left again and here, for example, you can now customize this category by clicking On the small Cog wheel here, I’m going to turn this to off, so it’s not visible anymore. Let’S go back now. We also have another category here which is mobile apps again, I want to turn that off so go back to the Cog wheel and turn off visible, so it’s not visible now.
The watch next is quite interesting, so if you’re interested in using that I’m going to actually move mine to the top so instead of clicking on the Cog wheel, if you go one more to the left here, you can adjust the order of the rows. So, let’s click on that and I can now move this to the top. That looks fine. Let me also adjust the size of these tiles, so we can see it’s currently on large. Let me turn that down to extra small. Actually, I think small is okay.
For this one, so you can see what’s coming up next, let’s go back back and we can now see. We have watch next, followed by my streaming ABS. Then I can then customize settings change, display profiles, look at other options here. So that’s looking a lot cleaner. Already, let’s just create one more section for U tools! So again: let’s go to the top click on the Cog wheel.
Go to edit categories. Add a new category. Let’S give this one a name and we’ll just call this utils there. We have it guys. So now we have right at the top we have watch next. I can quickly go to one of my programs and then have my favorite utilities, and you can see when you hover over a tile. You can see that the way it’s highlighted actually dynamically changes color.
So for downloader we can see it’s orange my app killer. We can see it’s a a sort of yellow color. Here we can see. This is also similar color. So it just looks really nice for Apple TV, it’s a a white glow so, depending on the application, it does customize how it’s highlighted – and I think looks really really. Nice Netflix has a nice little red glow there. That looks good okay. So the next thing you probably want to do is customize the wallpaper I mean we can see on mine, it’s already changing, but the way we customize the wallpaper is go back to the settings at the top.
Let’S click on that. Let’S now go to the project. Launcher settings project IV Launcher settings, let’s go to a appearance and I can now go to wallpaper and you have some options here, so you can use Dynamic, colors default wallpaper. Some of these options are premium if you want to support the developer and if you do end up using this launcher. I think this is a great way you can show appreciation by purchasing the premium version, which then unlocks some more features like customizing. What kind of wallpapers you can use, but for now I’m going to click on Reddit? I can now choose which subreddit where it gets these wallpapers from.
So you have options like Earth. Astrophotography, wallpaper, wallpapers, big, wallpaper, Botanical lots of different options. You got some AI stuff here.
Let’S just do wallpapers and see what options we get back again. That looks good. That’S how you customize the wallpaper very easy to do now.
You can also customize how these individual Tils look. So we can see these look quite square, but I actually prefer slightly rounded edges. So if I go back to the settings, go back to project IV Launcher settings, let’s go to appearance and you can see here you can customize the card. So if I click on that now, you can see you can increase how Randy the corners are. Uh, let’s try 50 %. You can adjust the card size here as well. If you want a more customized size and you can also adjust the focus card size, if you want that to be a bit bigger, so let me make the card size a bit smaller. Let me make this a bit bigger just so you can see how that reflects in the home screen.
Now, with this rounded edges and a different card size, you can see it looks a lot nicer. So when you focus on the tile, it goes big. Otherwise, the tiles are quite small and then now I have a lot more rounded edges. So again you can see it is very, very easy to customize and get this launcher.
Looking exactly how you like it, I mean there really are lots of options to play around with and lots of different things. You can do and have a play now, the last one, which is. How can I ensure that, when I press the home button, the launcher doesn’t take me back to the home screen where I see all of this mess and ads and everything else? How do I ensure that the home screen always stays in the custom launcher? Well, if I go back to the launcher here, I can now go back to the settings at the top. Let’S go back to the Launcher settings and where it says general and let’s now, click on change default launcher and you now have an option on which launcher do you want, so I’m going to click on Project Ivy and click on set as default? Okay, that’s kicked us out. Let’S go back in, let’s go back to the settings, go back back to the Launcher, settings go back into General and we want to click on override the current launcher.
So let’s click on that and once you clicked on override current launcher. Let’S press back, the last thing we need to do is go down into where it says: accessibility, Services. Let’S click on that. We can see behind my head, it says no, and we want to change that to yes. So if I click on show accessibility settings, I can now click on yes scroll down and I’m going to turn on the option for the project IV launcher click on enable click on okay.
That’S now done, and it just means now, when I press the home button, my device stays inside the custom launcher and we can demonstrate this by opening up an app like downloader. That opens up fine and now, when I press the home button, 3 2 1. We can see instantly, we are taken back to that custom launcher, so works really really well really easy to configure has all of the options that you could want, including customizing the background customizing, the tile hiding applications, all of that’s built in and the fact that you Can override your stock launcher without typing in any ADB Commands without installing any other applications? I do think that’s a great feature of the project IV launcher and to get this on all of your devices just open up the Play Store or I can just use my voice and say open Play, Store and just search for the word project. Iv launcher and that’s the one there can click on that and that’s the custom launcher directly available on the Android TV app store.
