Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “HONOR Magic 6 Pro REVIEW | More sparkle than MAGIC?”.
This is the honor magic 6 Pro and I’ve been using it for the last couple of weeks, and it’s got me thinking that maybe it’s more Sparkle than it is Magic before we get started. Let me just start off by saying that the anom magic 6 Pro is actually a really solid phone. It has a Snapdragon, 8 gen3, like all major flagships, so it’s more than powerful enough we’re talking a 180 megapixel, 2 .5 times camera and one of the biggest batteries that I’ve ever seen at 5,600 mahs. There is one thing that the 6 Pro does really well and it stands out amongst a sea of every other Android phone, that’s mostly down to its squirkle named camera bump, which looks a little bit more like a piece of jewelry than it does a classic camera.
Cutout, but I really appreciate what honor have done here: they put some effort into making it different and it works because it just stands out and the feel of this phone as well on the back back of it is a faux leather. So it’s not like your classic matte glass finishes or matte plastic finishes that you might see on any other. Android phones and I’ll be honest. It does take a little bit of getting used to.
It does have this really nice texture on the back and I didn’t like it right away, but you know what, after a few weeks, I’m a little bit more on board with it. Now again, it’s different and stands out and another aspect of this phone that does make it stand out is that display now honor have gone against the curve and stuck with the Curve. This year, it’s a 6.8 in ltpo ol Le that actually looks really slick. It’S 120 HZ and it can drop down to just one Herz when needed as well, and it has that Peak brightness of 5,000 nits when watching HDR content. But I can’t say that I’ve managed to actually get it to that 5,000 nits. That often because I haven’t watched that much HDR content outside all around this is actually a really top-of-the-line display when you watch content, that’s where it really stands out, but either indoors or Outdoors, there’s no complaints here. If you look at the bezels on the display, as well, you’ll notice that actually they are so minimal because of that curved display, and it does immerse you a little bit more in the content. So when you watch something in Delby Vision, it really is Cinema likee. In terms of quality, having said all that, though, I do have a bit of a problem with curved displays. I think there’s a reason why a lot of people have gone away from that and gone back to a flat display, and I felt like with my time with this phone. I was getting a lot of accidental touches and I found it just more difficult than using a flat display and I just don’t think that magic OS helps here much either. My biggest frustration with the entire phone is my typing experience and I don’t think I’ve ever had a bad typing experience on a phone ever before, but the onor magic 6 Pro is a first.
The keyboard is really low and I feel like it’s just in the wrong place and I switched to gboard hoping that this would help, but actually it feels like you just need to be looking at everything you type that space bar is too low. Letters don’t seem to be quite where you expect them to be, and I didn’t think this is just a me problem. If you have an honor magic 6 Pro, then let me know in the comments: if you’ve had this same typing experience cuz, surely it can’t just be me while we’re talking about software, let’s just touch on Magic, OS and my first impressions of this. A couple of weeks ago were that it’s almost there and I kind of stick by this.
It feels semi familiar, but you still need to take some time to get used to it. One of the familiar aspects of this is that Control Center and it looks like it’s merged iOS and stock Android together for actually a really nice clean experience. It’S even taken Dynamic Island from Apple renamed. It the magic pill and put the media controls inside that magic pill, and it works really nicely. It means you can get into media controls or anything that you’re watching really quickly. Customizing, the home screen and lock screens again takes a bit of getting used to with pinching to edit and a few other differences.
But I really like the customization. You get on Magic, OS being able to blur the wallpaper and have a load of always on display options to pick from which makes it feel just really customizable, and actually it’s fun to play with that. Always on display again feels like it’s taken a little bit from I and one uui and put it into its own honor magic, OS style, magic OS is almost there and I feel like next year. It might get a bit better, but at the moment you just need to allow a little bit more time to get used to it. When you want to unlock this phone, you get a couple of options you get fingerprint and a 3D face unlock. The fingerprint reader is accurate.
It’S really quick, and my only issue here is that it just seems to be a little bit too far down on the display for what I’m used to it’s much closer to the bottom of the display than it is to the middle. So again, a little bit more of a learning curve Face Unlock, though, is surprisingly good. It’S superb, whether you’re in the dark or whether you’re in a really nicely lit room again. Another learning experience here is when you swipe up to unlock your phone with face ID now you have to swipe from the middle of the display, rather than the bottom.
Otherwise, you get this really annoying magazine, lock, notification which I just couldn’t seem to turn off, and I’ve swiped up from the bottom of the screen about a million times, and it is so frustrating before we move move on to the cameras and have a look at Them there’s one aspect of this phone that I want to say is fantastic, and that is the battery. I already mentioned it’s 5,600 milliamps, which is one of the biggest batteries you can get on a phone at the moment and usually that can sound good on paper and it might not be as good in reality, but this is good in reality and on paper getting To the end of the day is so easy and I can easily have around about 30 % left and if I haven’t used it heavily during that day, I can easily get to the next day without even charging. It you’ve got 80 W fast charging with this, but sadly no fast charger in the box with our unit, and you can also have 66 WT wireless charging as well. To get you back to full in no time at all where onor is hoping to cast some magic, though this year is with its cameras, and I’ve got to tell you. These are not bad at all. There’S a main camera with a 50 map, omnivision sensor, a 180 map 2.5 times camera and a 50 megap Ultra wide one of the most unique parts of that main camera lens is being able to switch it aperture between f1.4 and F2, which in theory, is a Really cool feature to have, but in practice there’s not much difference between changing those f- stops and a lot of people won’t go into that Pro Photo mode, and you can’t use this in the automatic settings. So a nice cool feature that honor put into this, but something that I don’t think that many people will use the cameras overall, I think, take great photos, especially in daylight. They’Re sharp they’re Punchy and it’s just not oversaturated and looks in my opinion, really close to real life. D range is really nice and it might sound stupid. But I was shocked at how good these photos were when you move to the zoom lenses, though this again is where I think that the honor magic 6 Pro really stands out, whether you go for 2.5 or five times. This is where I love the detail in shots. The quality for me is excellent, and I know it’s all personal preference, but the time that I sped with it. I really enjoyed it 2.5 time. Zoom is where you would see the best detail with the 180 megapixels, but I was actually shocked at how you can capture details.
When you go a bit further to five times or even 10 times, you can go all the way to 100 times Zoom, but these photos turn out as expected very little detail and I would say, can barely pass as a usable photo nighttime photos on all these Lenses come out really nicely as well: they’re sharp and there’s no noticeable noise in the images it takes, and there did seem to be a bit of color shifting between lenses dependent on the conditions. I think, overall, with low light and nighttime photography. This is something that you won’t be disappoint security, so if you do pick it up, it’s going to last you the while.
