UMIDIGI A15 Pro 5G Review - is a $200 Smartphone Worth Getting?

Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “UMIDIGI A15 Pro 5G Review – is a $200 Smartphone Worth Getting?”.
What’S up folks how’s it going? This is W from MW technology and today we’re going to be taking a look at the Y Digi a15 Pro 5G. This is basically a budget oriented smartphone that offers a decent amount of specifications for the $ 2 to $ 300 price point. Some of the specs include a 6.6 AMOLED display, with a relatively High native resolution, a pretty minimalistic and modern contemporary design. In addition to having a 108 map rear-facing camera for Stills 33 lots of fast charging, expandable memory, perhaps one of the weak points is the mediatech S. So it’s using the dimensity 900 mobile platform, which might not be as fast as some of the current and potentially even the previous generation smartphones we’ve encountered in the past.

So, let’s take a look at this Smartphone see if it’s right for you and see if it’s worth it now. First thing: I want to talk about the overall design of the a15 pro 5G. It weighs just under 200 g and and it thickness wise, it’s only about 8 mm, so very thin very light, and the overall build quality is excellent. It’S using this anodized aluminum finish at the back, which is fingerprint resistant thanks to the overall texture, which is definitely a nice departure from the shiny piano black fingerprint magnets we’ve been countering for the last several years in smartphones.

Some of the other unique features include a programmable button on the left side of the device. There’S also a fingerprint reader on the power/ uh standby button on the right side of the device just below the volume keys, and you can also Face Unlock using the front-facing camera. So there are a number of security functions and programmable options to make this a little bit more unique than typical budget smartphones. Now, let’s talk about the display on the a15, it uses a 6.6 AMOLED display with a native resolution of 2400 by 1080, not as high resolution as some of the other more upper-end smartphones, but definitely sharp enough for most people’s needs.

I think – and the big highlight over here is that you can go up to 120 htz refresh rate, so it’s very Snappy at that uh setting and very Dynamic fluid looking matches to the level that we see on upper end iPhones as well as Samsung devices. In terms of Maximum brightness, the display is rated for up to 900 nits, so it’s bright enough for most scenarios out there, certainly not as bright as again other premium smartphones and the color accuracy, and overall color Dynamics is certainly not as accurate as uh. Those Flagship smartphones that you would encounter from the big manufacturers, but for a passable display that has a pretty awesome black levels thanks to the ammo Leed 120 HZ at uh, probably around the $ 200 price point. It’S definitely not bad and the highlight of the phone now moving on and talk about, probably the biggest downside of the A50 15 Pro definitely has to be the mediatech S.

So the demens city 900 specifically came out back in mid 2021 and uh. It was okay at the time, but uh now in 2024, uh with uh smartphones that are getting at least six to potentially even seven times. The performance of this processor is uh, definitely its biggest limitation uh. It is an octacore chip, 6 NM architecture with two performance cores that can turbo up to 2.4 GHz six high efficiency cores that typically can turbo up to 2 GHz.

The gpus, the r melei g68, has a total output of 621 gigaflops, which makes it a pretty hard struggle playing anything graphically intensive from a gaming perspective, uh, but just internet browsing and checking social media and just general smartphone communication stuff. I think this so is definitely passible, but SAR for everything else. Now about the ram that we mentioned earlier uh with the factory setting. It is 12 GB, but you can utilize some of your long-term storage to get an additional 12 uh GB of RAM uh from a virtual standpoint.

So you can get up to 24 GB of RAM. Don’T know if that’s going to really help too much with the overall performance of using uh applications one by one, but you can certainly potentially run more applications in the background without having a massive hurdle on the performance. But I doubt that’s going to make too much of a difference since there’s a pretty big bottleneck on the processor itself, where the performance is traditionally always going to be lacking, especially if you’re running applications that are very CPU GPU intensive. Now, from a camera standpoint on the rear, we have a triple camera array. We have a 108 megap main camera, as well as a 50 megap Ultra wide and a 8 map. I macro camera.

The macro camera just basically allows you to get a little bit more closer up, uh to your subjects, to get more detailed, fine shots. But the resolution is quite limited and you are going to find that the overall quality is pretty passable. And even though we have a lot of megapixels on the main camera you’re not going to really discern too much more details than you would even find on a 12 megapixel iPhone camera. So, if you’re going to again compare this to my older iPhone 12, the camera performance is definitely pretty passable and subpar and certainly not going to match up to the what you’re going to encounter with the flagship smartphones out there. Lastly, let’s talk about the battery performance. We have a 5,000 milliamp battery has 33 wats of fast charging capabilities using the USBC connection.

There is no Wireless Gat charging capabilities and I did do a battery drain test just to give uh myself an idea in terms of what the uh phone is capable of and specifically for our battery drain test. We play a video on Loop, it’s typically 1080p in airplane mode, at 50 % screen brightness and I got a total run time about 14 hours and 25 minutes, definitely not as good as a modernday iPhone or Samsung Galaxy product. But in addition to that, we have encountered other smartphones that have smaller capacity batteries getting two to four more hours of a battery life runtime on this exact same test now, in summary, I do have to say that everything really comes down to one aspect: how much Is exactly this a15 Pro going to cost? We don’t, unfortunately, know the exact answer to that. I asked my sources and they gave me a price range between $ 200 to $ 300 now in the low $ 200 or cheaper.

That’S definitely not a bad little bargain uh, certainly for people that just need a basic smartphone. This is definitely a pass possible option, but anything uh hitting closer to that 300 or 300 plus definitely is a tough sell and hard to recommend. Given the limitations we’ve talked about in this article, and certainly what you could buy in the used Market will certainly outperform what we encounter with this product over here. I do want to thank you for giving us the opportunity to review this product if the price is competitive enough.

I’M sure they’ll do well, if not uh, perhaps not so much, but we’ll be the judge of that once it hits the shelves right now. It’S kind of unavailable and uh. Currently, un Digi is actually one of the few Distributors here in North America, Canada and the US that actually sells a decent amount of products, smartphones tablets and other things on Amazon. So they have a pretty decent presence compared to other Chinese manufacturers, so I wish them all the best and love to know what you guys think is the best budget.
