The Galaxy Note is gone, but has the S Ultra TRULY replaced it?

Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “The Galaxy Note is gone, but has the S Ultra TRULY replaced it?”.
It’S been more than 3 years since Samsung stopped, making Galaxy, Note, phones and started merging the S Spen functionality into the flagship Galaxy S Ultra lineup. So we asked you guys our Android authority followers and readers, whether you thought that the Galaxy s24 Ultra had finally replaced the note series and the answers were interesting. Let’S start with Instagram, the results of our poll were a comically, perfect d. There 50 % said that, yes, the Galaxy S Ultra Series had finally replaced the note series, whereas 50 % said nuh-uh. If you look closely, there are six more people in the no camp, but that doesn’t really answer the question in a clear and definitive way.

Things are a bit different on our site, where 77 % of 2000 people agreed that the Galaxy s24 had finally replaced the note series – it’s not a Landslide by any means, but it does give us a very clear majority. Now I’ve personally never never used a Galaxy. Note phone or S Ultra phone for a long period of time, so I feel as a bit of an outsider, to the note fandom and to me the answer seems a little bit obvious. The Galaxy s24 Ultra is a note, 24 Ultra in anything, but name, and many of you agree with me there.

As a matter of fact, it actually feels like the note Series, has replaced the S Ultra Series and not the other way. Around Samsung is no longer building rounded Sleek phones like the Galaxy s20 Ultra. Instead, it’s making boxy phones with displays with the same form factor as the note series and it’s just calling them as Ultra phones, Food For Thought huh. But I did a little bit of digging into your comments to educate myself and to see what note afficionados were thinking about the current state of affairs. Aside from the simple yeses and NOS as answers, uh, which told me nothing, I discovered that some of you were very happy with their Galaxy S, Ultras and were’re thankful that note and Spen functionality had been merged with it, instead of being completely discontinued. However, many note fans complained about the lack of extra oomph in the S Ultra Series. The not line has always been a Bastion of productivity and top end performance.

It’S always been a status symbol. You guys said the S Ultra doesn’t have the same lure. As the note isn’t as Cutting Edge – or it doesn’t give the same high class impression, for example, the last note the note 20 Ultra had 12 GB of RAM in 2020, whereas the s24 ultra just got 12 GS of ram in 2024.

And that tells you everything there is to know about how far ahead the Galaxy Note series was in terms of productivity and performance, but one main complaint kept popping up again and again and again: there’s no micro, SD card slot on these new s. Ultra phones and that’s understandable, to complain about a lot of you liked having the option of popping a Micro SD card into their phones and keeping a local backup of their data or transferring it to another phone. Even though local storage is getting faster and faster and and less prone to Accidental damage having a Micro SD card slot is a nice bonus, a few people also brought up the midyear release window of the note series which used to happen in August 6 month after The Galaxy S Series some of you hated having to wait 6 months to get the features of the Galaxy S Series in a note form factor, whereas others thought that the six-month weit was enough time for Samsung to fix issues and release a more stable product. For me, though, the most interesting argument I saw in favor of the entire galaxy note line is the fact that there is no more an affordable Galaxy Note option. Samsung has merged the note and ESP Spen functionality into the highest end and most expensive Galaxy S Ultra. So now, if you love the pen and you love productivity, but you don’t care about Flagship camera performance, there is just no option for you to buy a basic note for $ 1,000 anymore. No, you have to buy the more expensive Galaxy S Ultra phone and that’s your only option at after reading.

All of these comments and knowing Samsung’s focus on foldables in the middle of the year. I think the answer to our question about whether the S Ultra has replaced the note is somewhere in the middle of all of this. The Galaxy Note Series has fundamentally changed the entire smartphone landscape. I still remember when the first Galaxy Note phone launched and how everyone me included was a gas at the idea of holding a phone and using a phone with a 5.3 in display. It was huge.

It was G again it it was bigger than any other smartphone we’d seen and it couldn’t possibly succeed because who wants to hold a tablet and carry it in their pockets. We even made word for it fablet phone and tablet, and look at us now, holding 6.7 in phones, not faets and using them as if we were born to do it. Samsung had a fantastic idea with the Galaxy Note series and kept improving on that formula year. Over year, with trial and error over time, the Galaxy Note stopped being an Enthusiast phone and started becoming more and more popular sure.

It always had that Galaxy Note Aura around it and you’d always think oh fan when someone pulled an Spen out of their phone, but I think it’s a testament to the note’s success and popularity that it was no longer considered a side project by Samsung in 2020. Back then, in 2020, when the first rumors of the Galaxy Note series Death started popping up, we asked our readers whether they thought that Samsung should kill the note series or replace it with the S series and over 60 % of them thought that that was a Terrible idea, both of them terrible ideas, they just wanted the note to remain the note now 77 % – think that the S Ultra has done a good job of replacing the note series times. Change and perceptions too. Realistically Samsung couldn’t compete on three different fronts. At the same time, so it had to choose its battles and focus on the future un foldables.

Instead, This switch happened right around the time that the Galaxy Note was ready for prime time time and in a way it feels that the Galaxy Note has graduated and given some of its best features to the Galaxy S Series, we can cry about the lack of A micro, SD card or more affordable, note option and I think those are valid complaints. But I also think that we can all agree that we would rather see one Galaxy S phone with Spen functionality built in instead of the note series dying and taking the Spen with it.
