How to Reveal Formulas in Excel

Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “How to Reveal Formulas in Excel”.
In this short Excel video, I’m going to show you how to reveal formulas in Microsoft Excel. So here we have a spreadsheet, and there are some formulas happening in this spreadsheet and often you don’t want to really see the formulas. You don’t want those to be revealed. You just want to see the results of the formulas, but there are times when you’ll need to look at the formulas, maybe to inspect them, make sure they’re working.

How to Reveal Formulas in Excel

And so how could you do that? Go to the formulas Tab and then over here on the right in the formula auditing group. There’S a show formulas button. If you click that Excel will reveal all of the formulas that are in effect in your spreadsheet.

So you can see, there’s a bunch of subtotal formulas going on. There are some functions being used in formulas here and I can inspect those make sure they’re working. If I need to make changes, I can click on one of the formulas and use the formula bar to make adjustments. Now I can toggle show formulas off just by pressing the button again and my spreadsheet looks the way it normally would once again now, just like with many of the best features in Microsoft Excel. There is a keyboard shortcut that can produce the same result. So, instead of having to pick up the mouse and move to the formulas, Tab and then click to select your option, you can just keep your hands on the keyboard and use a keyboard shortcut. So I’m going to click on one of the cells that I know has a formula and I’ll hold the Ctrl key and tap the apostrophe button, and that will reveal the formula. That’S in that specific cell.

If I click and drag to select a range of cells, hold Ctrl and tap apostrophe, it doesn’t work. So this keyboard shortcut is used to just show the formula in a specific cell, whatever cell you’ve selected control, apostrophe and then release the keys, don’t keep holding them. Then you can look at the formula, make any changes you want and then click away when you’re done thanks for watching this video, I hope you found it to be helpful it if you did please like, follow And subscribe and when you do click the bell and You’Ll be notified when I post another video, if you’d like to support my channel.
