Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra VS Google Pixel 7 Pro – Save Your $$?”.
Foreign thing: we all praise about Android, it’s variety from affordable beasts to expensive kitchen sinks. You can pick how much you want to pay and what you get for that money. It’S honestly why it makes it hard to compare phones, because prices and everything you’d think that more expensive means better. But that’s not always the case and no other battle shows those differences more than the one we’re about to begin on one corner: we have the Galaxy s23 Ultra Samsung’s latest and greatest Flagship and already one of the best phones of 2023. on the other Corner. We have the pixel 7 Pro Google’s best phone ever, which is actually a statement. I will not argue with this year. There are 300 price difference might make it look like an unfair comparison, but what, if that’s exactly? How much money you could save I’m Jaime Rivera with pocket now and let’s dive into our comparison, foreign, so yeah. There is some money to save at simple glance, but that’s assuming you were comparing the pixel against any other phone that matches it in features, and this is not the case here. Surely Samsung’s Ultra lineup started as a photography showcase, but it’s mature to be so much more than that visually I’d say both phones have the looks. Samsung has opted for a more minimalistic design language, while Google does some of it, but in its own way Samsung wins.
The materials Department with its use of the latest Gorilla Glass vectus 2, along with the strength of its armor aluminum, while Google is two generations late with the first generation victus and no special claims for its metallic finish. I also wouldn’t call either phone ergonomic. The Galaxy might be nearly two millimeters taller and wider in addition to being 22 grams heavier, but it’s not like the pixel feels that much better in the hand given they’re both just as thick. I also tend to drift more to Samsung’s matte finish, but Google’s gloss is more of a subtle statement than any thing. My only complaint is that the visor on the pixel was pretty easy to scratch when seen against the light, but which does a far better job. At not wobbling on a table versus what Samsung does with its camera Rings. Overall, I drift more to the elegance and feel of the boxier Galaxy, but I know many of you prefer. The curves of the pixel going into internals also makes an additional case for the Galaxy.
Yes, the s23 ultra rocks the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, and the problem is the pixels tensors, based on the exynos chip. Samsung just decided to ditch and for a reason, Ram options are the same, but then the Galaxy also starts at Double the storage at faster speeds. Connectivity is the same, but then Samsung’s Bluetooth is newer. The batteries are the same size, but then Samsung charges it faster. You get where I’m going, the Galaxy offers more, which is to be expected because you’re paying more money for it now flip them around, and things continue to get complicated. Samsung’S AMOLED 2x continues to beep the gold standard and display quality, but it’s not like the pixels OLED lags behind. They both offer 120hz variable refresh rate and stacking them side by side shows that color accuracy and viewing angles are well handled by both displays I’ll give the edge to Samsung for being a hair larger, but mostly because it’s brighter in both normal scenarios and Peak brightness. I even noticed the ultra is smarter about adapting to its environment, where the pixel is usually going over and drawing more power. As a result, the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner on the Galaxy is also more secure and I’d say I prefer Samsung’s always on options versus Googles. I debate upgrading a product each year, oh and yeah. The Galaxy also has louder and more robustible firing speakers, even if the pixel is no slouch, are some subtle differences to tell them apart. An additional benefit of this Galaxy’s display is that it’s not just a regular phone.
The Wacom digitizer on top enables S Pen functionality allowing you to use this phone as a digital, notepad and other tricks that are, in some cases forgettable, but in others quite useful. It’S integration with the Microsoft Office. Suite is essential for me.
It’S one of the main reasons I don’t argue with having one UI 5.1 on the Galaxy. Even if I know that for any purists out there you’ll prefer the pixels version of Android better without Samsung’s implementation. Most of the features I just mentioned simply won’t work.
I also appreciate Samsung’s denser approach to the user interface, giving you more usable space in addition to tricks like the edge menus for quick shortcuts, by contrast, Google’s larger, more in-ear, face approach, which I’m sure is something some of you prefer is not my cup of tea. If anything, I do like Google’s smarter approach to an Android phone. There are awesome tricks from the Google consistent voice recording transcriptions day, one software updates and other Essentials that are exclusive to pixels, at least for now.
You’Re gon na have to pick what you’d care about. Most, but for me, Samsung gives me more of what I care about now, after using the pixel for nearly six months and the Galaxy for two, I will tell you that both phones are clearly the refined versions of their predecessors. It’S as if both Samsung and Google decided to address all the complaints that we had before, particularly in endurance. The Galaxy is a two-day phone without breaking a sweat, while the pixel doesn’t really go that far, but it’s totally a one day phone without a problem. I also find each phone to be snappier, more reliable and better at connectivity than before, as I tested them on at T’s 5G Network.
Now, in all fairness, phone calls were never a problem on either of their predecessors, but in everything else, I’d say: you’ll get a solid experience, regardless of which phone you pick. Obviously the Last Frontier to test is the cameras and boy. Does this continue to get interesting? Spec wise, the ultra is the ultra boasting an extra camera and more megapixels than a human can fathom. But then the pixel is no slouch in its offerings and we know it still can’t be matched at its ability to make Miracles with computational photography.
The tensor G2 is all about that extra computational boost, but then so is the Snapdragon agent too. In reality, though, results are kind of mixed. Each approach is different with the Galaxy favoring, more subtle tones that you can edit later, while the pixel is all about the extra contrast that might spare you from it, though, which could get in the way of anyone that favors other looks their focal. Lengths are also different, so forgive me for sticking to Optical capabilities as much as possible.
I love that the pixels Ultra wide is slightly wider and that it’s not trying to fake capabilities it doesn’t have and going to 30X, the Galaxy by contrast pushes far beyond, but I wouldn’t use it beyond that same 30X anyways, regardless I’d be comfortable with both phones. If I had to pick one during the day now at night, I noticed there are cases where the Galaxy is dramatically faster at taking the shot and that it’s not like if the pixel is giving you a brighter shot. But then, once you notice the results, I will tell you that the pixel looks a bit more true to life, where the Galaxy is able to pull a lot of light, where there really wasn’t much even better is that this applies regardless of what camera you use. I noticed the pixel being a tad noisier, but I do prefer the grain over how Samsung compensates for detail digitally I’m also going to give portraits to the Galaxy. I love the contrast of the pixel in buildings, but not in faces. I struggle with looking older than I already look where Samsung seems to balance out the formula a bit more to not make your skin look dry. Obviously, that’s a matter of taste, whether you’re using the selfie camera or the standard ones, and don’t worry. I turned off all the beautifying modes, the pixel does fight back and having cool tricks like long exposure and action pen which you can achieve manually on the Galaxy but which require you to know what you’re doing well.
Google’S approach is to give you a pro camera for consumers. Google isn’t even trying to take photos of the Moon and gain controversy, but it’s astrophotography is pretty epic and automatic. While again it’s not that simple on the Galaxy and then last but not least, there is video, I’m gon na give it to the pixel.
For a second time in a row, Samsung has invested a lot in proving its codec, but I still notice some over sharpening and more warping than on the pixel in tough scenarios, in addition to more noise, while Google provides more saturation in colors without these being overdone And just the better overall result, in my opinion, I’m not really a fan of the selfie video on either, though, but if I had to pick one I’d also give it to the pixel given how it handles skin tones better. The excess contrast and photography goes away in video, which is so odd, but then again so welcomed to clarify the Galaxy isn’t bad, but it seems Google’s control over tensor is actually paying off. To conclude, I think it’s fair to say that for such a dramatic price difference, this comparison is as close as it gets. The Galaxy wins on most of the elements, but of course it has to it’s a more expensive phone. The only reason I compare the pro with the ultra is because that’s how far Samsung has to go to match the pixel’s capabilities, the pixels price is just too good for Flagship territory.
Obviously I have to pick a winner and this is going to be as biased as it gets. If it were my money, I would pick the Galaxy s23 Ultra simply because it does so much more of the things that I care about. I do feel you’re getting 300 more of a phone and I’m willing to pay for that. The thing is, if I were to tell you which one to pick well, that’s a different story.
I’D blindly recommend the ultra. If you could stretch that far, but the pixel is just too good for the money, most people forget the S. Pen is there and it’s not like. If the camera comparisons made, the pixel look bad.
My winner is the Galaxy, but I think for most of you, there’s really no need to pay more. The pixel 7 Pro is such a great phone.
