Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “HONOR Magic Vs review – Is it better than the Galaxy Z Fold 4?”.
Originally released in China in November 2022, honors latest foldable, the magic vs is finally being released to International markets but doesn’t have what it takes to compete with the likes of Samsung’s Galaxy Z, fold 4., I’m Harley Moreno with Android authority and in this article we’re going To be reviewing the honor magic vs, starting with the good stuff, the honor magic via Sports, an elegant and clean design that looks quite similar to the original honor magic V. However, with the vs, the most significant design change has to be its hinge. With this gearless design, honor was able to reduce the number of hinge components from 92 to just four, with the hinge of the magic vs composed of just two metal and two plastic elements. But what does this mean for the end user? Will this design change translates into a more reliable, rigid and smoother experience when folding the device? Also, when you’re holding the phone you’ll notice that the hinge doesn’t droop or slowly slip when it’s folded halfway? Also, when folded shut, the phone folds completely flat, with no Gap at all, leading to an overall, cleaner design and less chance of debris entering through the seams and as far as durability goes honorrates. The hinge for 400 and thousand opens, which is equivalent to folding the phone a hundred times a day for 10 years, hinge aside the honor magic vs Sports, some nice display Tech inside and out. The external display is a nice 6.45 inch, fhd plus OLED display, with a 21 to 9 aspect ratio and 120 hertz refresh rate. It has good color and saturation with solid viewing angles and no discernible off-axis tint and on the inside you’ll get a 9.7 inch.
90 Hertz OLED display with an aspect ratio that is much closer to a square from our testing. Color matching between the two displays is good, and my colleague Chris, who reviewed the device, didn’t experience any software issues when transitioning content between the internal and external display flipping over to the back of the device you will find the rear camera system highlight features include a 54 megapixel main wide camera 50 megapixel Ultra wide camera and 8 megapixel telephoto shooter. There are also 16 megapixel selfie cameras for each of the internal and external displays.
Now, looking at the photo samples daytime shots, look pretty good across the rear cameras. Colors are bright and lean towards a more natural look on the main camera, although some may find certain colors a little over saturated. The images show a good amount of detail and contrast, and it looks like honor has done.
A good job in steering clear of any aggressive, post-processing dynamic range is also pretty good, as the main camera is able to preserve details in the highlights, such as in the clouds in the sky. The ultrawide camera also performs pretty well, although it seems to produce images with a slightly cooler tone compared to the main camera images in terms of dynamic range. The ultrawide sensor holds it pretty well to the main shooter.
However, Shadows do seem a little bit more crushed. There’S also a bit of distortion on the edges of the ultra wide shots, but it’s nothing too distracting the telephoto camera does use a much lower 8 megapixel sensor, but the photos still look pretty decent granted. The dynamic range of the telephoto shooter isn’t as good as the other rear cameras, but the photo should still look fine for most people.
However, the cameras on the honor magic vs do start to falter in low light conditions. Now the photos aren’t terrible per se. In fact, they’re more than usable and offer a good amount of detail, however, in low light conditions, you’ll start to see smudging in parts of the frame, which is evidence of the phone’s post processing, trying to compensate for the lack of light. Now, if you’re an avid night photographer, then this phone isn’t really going to impress and you’re better off buying a phone equipped with Samsung’s natography or Google’s Nightside feature now. Is it better than the cameras found on Samsung, Google or even Apple’s Flagship phones? Well, not really. No, however, considering the fact that the honor magic vs comes at a lower price tag than a similarly configured z-fold 4, then its camera system should suit most consumers.
Now, for a more in-depth look at the honor magic V’s camera system be sure to check out our full review on androidauthority.com. Another great feature of the honor magic vs has to be its battery from our testing. We were able to get about a day and a half’s worth of battery life, using the external display around 75 of the time. This is thanks to the 5000 milliamp hour cell inside of the device which is actually larger than the battery.
That’S found on the Galaxy Z, fold 4. and unlike Samsung honor, actually includes a supercharger in the Box. The phone with the supercharger has a max charging speed of 66 Watts, which is much faster than the z-fold 4’s 25 watt Max charging rate. Of course, your usage patterns will ultimately affect the amount of on-screen time you get with the honor magic vs. However, one thing is for sure: the battery in the honor magic vs should last you quite a while at least longer than the z-fold 4..
Now, because the magic vs is being released globally, it is worth noting that the phone will have access to the Google Play Store with all Google apps and services. This is actually what separates Honor’s latest foldable from its Chinese exclusive counterparts as other foldables like the Huawei mate X2 Oppo Find N2 and xiaomi mix. Fold 2.
Don’T come with Google support out of the box. Yawner magic vs clearly has a lot going for it. However, there are some limitations to consider before you go out and buy one for yourself. For starters, the magic vs comes equipped with a Snapdragon 8 plus gen 1 processor. Now, I’m not saying that it’s a bad processor by any means it performs very well and allows the phone to work perfectly. Fine, however, we’re at a point where new flagship phones are beginning to sport, the fancy new Snapdragon hn2 chip and, if you’re dropping a lot of cash for a folding phone, it makes you wonder how well the 8 plus gen 1 will last in the long run. Compared to the 8 Gen 2 Chain, to reiterate the eight plus gen1 processor is not bad, but it isn’t the latest and greatest, and that might be a deal breaker for some people. Now, besides the processor, the internal display of the magic vs isn’t perfect, while color reproduction on the panel is good.
The fact that it has a lower refresh rate compared to the external display May bother some now during my colleague Chris’s time with the device. He noted that he could see a noticeable difference between the display’s refresh rates, especially when switching from the external display to the internal one. Also, with the squarish aspect, ratio of the internal display you’ll be subject to letterboxing, while watching video and occasional pillar boxing in some apps, which leaves some wasted space on either side of your content and in terms of durability. The honor magic vs does not have any water resistance rating, which is a bit concerning when you’re investing so much money into a smartphone. However, the honor magic vs does have water resistant mesh inside the phone, where openings, like the speakers would allow dust, and water in this is obviously better than nothing, but but it doesn’t Inspire as much confidence compared to having you know, an official IP certification, the automatic Vs will be available globally, except in the United States, and the phone will come in only one configuration with 12 gigabytes of RAM and 512 gigabytes of storage. This phone will set you back 1 599 Euros, which is about 1 720 US Dollars now, with such a high price tag buying, this phone is going to be quite an investment, but considering the fact that the competition, including the Samsung Galaxy C fold, 4 charges more For a similarly configured unit, then it looks like the magic vs is definitely the more palatable option. It may not offer the latest and greatest chipset or class leading displays, but it does offer a reasonable set of compromises for the price Sports, a good design, good camera and displays great battery life and fast charging. And if you’re looking to buy your first foldable or you’ve just been longing for a Huawei like foldable with full access to Google’s apps and services, then the magic vs is definitely worth considering.
