Xiaomi 13 Pro Hands-On - The S23 Ultra killer?

Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “Xiaomi 13 Pro Hands-On – The S23 Ultra killer?”.
We recently got our hands on the xiaomi 13 Pro, which was launched in China last year and is finally being released globally. So, let’s check out what makes this phone tick and whether or not the 13 Pro is worth your attention. You know the saying: if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Well. Xiaomi has pretty much taken this to heart when designing the 13 pro, at least when it comes to its display.

This new phone has nearly the same 6.73 inch ltpo OLED panel as its predecessor complete with a 120 hertz refresh rate, Dolby Vision, support and Gorilla Glass victus durability. However, the 13 Pros display does get a slight upgrade with a much brighter 1900 nit Peak brightness 400. Nits, more than the xiaomi 12 Pro and sticking with the familiar you still get the same: waterfall edges and Central punch hole. Selfie camera as its predecessor flipping over the device.

You’Ll see a slew of new changes. Gone is the matte texture, glass, finish and simple. Three camera bump instead you’ll get either a high gloss ceramic finish in black white or green, or a blue silicon. Polymer, that’s textured for a leather-like finish. The back panel also reveals the completely redesigned significantly larger Leica branded camera bump. If talking similar design cues from the OnePlus 10 Pro and the Oppo Find X5 Pro now we’ll get into the camera system a little bit more later, but first we got to check out what’s under the hood now, keeping in line with 2023 flagships, the xiaomi 13 Pro is one of the first phones to adopt the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, which offers a series of new features and formats bumps, and you can learn more about those in our explainer. Video over at Gary explains so be sure to check that out.

After watching this, video, alongside the expected performance bumps, the xiaomi 13 Pro should be able to provide you with more on-screen time, thanks to its slightly larger battery compared to its predecessor, and when you do need to charge, you can take advantage of the phone’s 120 watt Wire charging or 50 watts wireless charging. Okay back to the 13 Pros cameras, xiaomi touts its latest Flagship as the first International product with Leica professional Optics, which means that each of the rear cameras are tuned to a Leica equivalent. So the ultrawide camera gets a 14 millimeter focal length. The telephoto camera equates to 75 millimeters and the primary sensor offers the equivalent of a 23 millimeter lens, speaking of which the xiaomi 13 Pro’s primary camera, uses a one inch Sony sensor. Now an inch may not sound like a lot, but trust me it’s above average for a smartphone camera and looking at some of the samples we’ve taken photos out of the 13 Pro looked pretty good, at least in balanced outdoor lighting.

The color reproduction looks quite accurate and not too saturated. There’S a good amount of detail throughout the images and using portrait mode was honestly, not bad and the images look quite decent. Of course, we still need to run more tests on the phone’s camera to see if the xiaomi 13 Pro can really compete with the likes of Google and Samsung, but so far the results seem promising. Overall, the xiaomi 13 Pro seems like it’s shaping up to be a solid choice for a flagship smartphone in 2023, so it’ll definitely be interesting to see how this phone performs, when we spend more time with the device and run it through our full Suite of tests. However, there are two things that may hold it back from Global success.

For starters, it’s software which features the miuy14 Android skin, won’t really be for everyone. It has a noticeable amount of bloat out of the box and some of the quick settings and notifications may take getting used to, and while the phone does have access to, Google Apps, the phone itself isn’t even going to be officially released in North America and on Top of the release limitation, the phone starts at 1299 Euros, which is around 1 400 US Dollars now. To put that in perspective, the xiaomi 13 Pro’s starting price is the same price for a max out Samsung Galaxy s23 Ultra, which features a special Snapdragon agent. 2 processor for Galaxy devices and excellent camera system, and really good software. Now, with such a high asking price, we can only hope that the xiaomi 13 pro has some tricks up its sleeves that can justify its premium price tag over something like the Galaxy s23 Ultra.
