This phone costs less than AirPods!

Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “This phone costs less than AirPods!”.
This phone is cheaper than a pair of airpods and not even the pros regular airpods, and that may sound crazy Poco is known for making affordable phones while still having a lot of specs. That can compete with a lot of flagships, and this one, hopefully, is no different. Today we have the Poco m5s, which is one of their newest phones here, along with their M5, that we’re not going to really spend much time on, because this is the interesting one. But what’s really interesting is a scent free loot.

Oh baby, we got the Poco juice yeah, that’s right, delicious Poco juice, where’s the juice, nothing in it! There’S nothing in it! Boy someone’s gotten here. First, oh they’re, trying to win me over and I’m I’m not gon na lie. It’S working. Look at this wow. I can really represent what else we got all right. We got the Poco headband and a very, very nice bag.

Don’T worry! I promise not to let this bias me all right. Let’S take a look at what’s inside the box here, it’s a very simple Box by the way, no information about specs of the phone. So I don’t actually know what we have here, but there we go.

First little intro tells us a bit about the phone itself, but let’s take a look at what’s in the box here: first wow: okay, so we got this phone carrier. There is something inside it’s very heavy and, oh perfect. I don’t think a lot of people make cases for these phones, but that could just be pure ignorance on my part but squishy squishy case also in the box.

We have a charger. So it’s a 33 watt, quick charger. This is not going to be everywhere, so this is a European Standard thing.

So, since we have the European model, whoa cool orange tip now for the phone itself, obviously we’ve all been waiting for very exciting, and you know it looks pretty cool. It is a 6.43 inches, so it’s pretty decently big but doesn’t feel heavy. So it is a plastic frame and a plastic back, but it doesn’t feel cheap. So I did use the Samsung s21fe before in the back. I didn’t like the texture kind of just made. It feel like really plasticky, but this no, it doesn’t feel bad at all, still has a little bit of hatch, so it’s 178 grams.

This one here is a good balance. It doesn’t feel heavy on one side of the phone or the other doesn’t feel like you’re going to be fatigued from holding it up to your face when you’re on the bus. You know FaceTiming your mom or whatever.

So we have the white here, but it is also available in blue and black and I wasn’t able to find it on like AliExpress or anything like that, but on their website they do show a yellow, otherwise, on the right side of the phone here we have Our volume, rocker and power button and the power button is also the fingerprint scanner which is pretty convenient on the top. Here we have one of our dual speakers and an IR blaster. So this is not in a ton of phones, but I absolutely love having an IR blaster.

This phone costs less than AirPods!

It’S super convenient for if you lose your remote or anything like that, it’s becoming rare and rarer to see, but it is just like a nice to have why not throw it in and then we have our mic hole on the left side of the phone. We have our SIM tray and I believe if we open it up, it is also an SD card slot, which is again something exceedingly rare in phones these days, but a great way to save some money by being able to get a lower storage option and throwing In your own SD card and a dual card slot, which is again super convenient, it’s not super common here in North America, it’s only just getting to that point in Europe and other countries. I know it’s a bit more common, but it’s super convenient while traveling or like for myself. I actually Rock two phones at the same time, one with my work phone number and one with my personal phone number and being able to put that all in one device is super convenient on the bottom of the phone. We have our other dual speaker as well as a USBC port and a headphone jack checking all the boxes. I know people in the comments are already going crazy.

You’Ve got this in your cart but slow down. We’Re going to finish this video on the back. Pretty simple, I don’t know, is a hot take or something like that, but having the certifications so big. On the back of the phone ugly, I use my phones caseless.

This phone costs less than AirPods!

I have a pixel 7 Pro in one pocket and an iPhone 13 Pro in the other pocket. Both naked, nothing, no scratches no cracks. Anything like that. I just don’t drop your phone.

If you don’t want to use a case, if you want to save some money, stop dropping your phone or AppleCare. I don’t know, but I feel like if there was a huge certification on the back of this. I actually might get a case just because it doesn’t look good other than the certifications there is this big kind of Poco logo? I don’t mind it as much like. I mean I feel, like I’d, be a little bit of a hypocrite, because Apple does have the giant Apple logo.

The pixel has the G logo on the back. It’S just not like a super high-end brand. It’S not like this is going to be like yeah. I’Ve got a Poco, so, on the back we have four cameras: we have our 64 megapixel main shooter, our 8 megapixel wide angle, shooter, our 2 megapixel depth, camera and a 2 megapixel macro camera, and I say four cameras because, yes, it does have the depth camera, But you’re never going to be taking a photo out of it, it’s just as used for the portrait mode.

So it’s there, there’s no telephoto, which some people might care about. I personally never use a telephoto lens on my cameras and with a 64 megapixel sensor. If this actually takes decent photos, you’ll just be able to crop in and get a zoom that way. So that’s about everything on the outside of the phone, so all we need to do is turn it on.

But first you need to hear from our sponsor secret lab thanks to secret lab for fun. So turning it on right away. First, you notice it’s got a pretty decent screen, so it’s 2400 by 1080p, full HD Plus ammo LED screen yeah. One disappointing thing about the screen, though, is it is only 60 hertz. A lot of modern phones or higher end phones or even just different kind of budget phones will have a 90 Hertz screen or even greater, and this one being locked at 60..

Once you get used to something higher, it is rough going back again, it’s not going to really show on camera, because obviously your screen is going to be a different refresh rate than what we’re filming at or anything like that. But just trust me. It does feel a bit choppy. Another disappointing thing I forgot to mention is that this is Gorilla Glass 3, which is, I think, we’re on like the 7th or 8th gen. One Saving Grace about this phone knows that the screen does get bright, so its average brightness is about 450 50 Nets, but it can go up to 700 nits in its auto brightness mode if it no zero in the Sun and has a peak brightness of 1100 Nits, which is competing with a lot of Flagship phones – that’s really great to see so yeah, as we can see here we’re on MIUI 13 and for specs. We have the 128 gig of storage and 6 gig of RAM model, though, as you notice here, it does say it’s six plus two, so it has a dynamic Ram system where it can allow you up to an additional two gigs of RAM when you need it, Which is interesting, I don’t know why you just wouldn’t have eight like.

Maybe it’s a battery saver thing. It’S also powered by the mediatek g95, which is again a couple years old and it was already a mid-rager then so we’re going to see if it affects performance at all but battery savings price savings. It could all still be worth it. One.

Other thing I want to check out is the fingerprint unlock speed. It does have ai Face Unlock, but it’s just a regular camera, so I don’t know if I’d really ever trust it even Windows. Hello requires an IR camera to get a special scan of your face. To make sure it’s actually, you know, and not just a picture of you well.

I’Ve got a nice little happy face, though it kind of makes me want to use it. When you see the little happy face, does that not make you want to use that? I am not super used to a fingerprint reader anymore. I’Ve been using the iPhone Pro since it came out, which is all just face ID and the pixel 7 Pro has the under display fingerprint scanner, which I actually have learned to like a lot, because when your phone is face up on the table, you can just Put your finger on top see your notifications or do whatever you’d like, so I’m not quite sure how I feel about the fingerprint scanner on the side. It just means you have to kind of pick it up and hold it.

If you want to use it, let’s see how fast this fingerprint scanner is. Oh, that’s fast. Super satisfying gets you right into the phone, but, as you unlock here, you can see there’s a lot of apps that come default on the phone. There’S a ton of bloatware. It’S got Netflix Poco Community tile fun, though usually they charge for that.

So that’s pretty impressive. I mean it just creates a lot more work. We have to go through and uninstall all the stuff that you’re obviously never going to use.

Like the me remote, I mean I guess, no, it’s got the IR. Blaster I’m sold, keep the bloatware foreign, that’s not bad. It was a little dicey at the start. I feel like uh. It was just the high ends. Weren’T sounding super great I’m not an audio file. I use air pods, but uh. I did think it sounds pretty good. It sounds pretty wide. There wasn’t a ton of stereo separation, but it did sound pretty decent and the screen looks good. I still think it looks really good for the fact that again, this is cheaper than airpods. You get all this nuts.

Now we’ve seen the screen. I heard the speakers. Let’S check out the cameras, that’s obviously something that’s really important too everybody most people, UI is very iphone-like, so you have the shutter button at the bottom.

The gallery, I’m assuming that’s going to be the flip, as well as all of your different kind of shoot modes. So, let’s take a picture right off the bat and just see what it looks like if you were to take a picture standard bog standard there he is. The ultrawide is 0.6.

You know for a 10x just crop Zoom, because that’s not Optical. That actually looks pretty decent, I’m not gon na lie. This is just a kind of standard. Suggested. 2X again looks pretty clear: it’s not super bright over there and I am in a brightened area and it still looks pretty decent, like uh you’re, not gon na be punching into these photos, and you know posting just James’s handsome face, and then this is the wide Angle, oh colors, look a bit better uh or at least kind of warm and saturated, so it just appears better and then the standard 1X. Again this looks pretty darn good. I took a footage behind me just so you can see something it’s a little bit more kind of consistently lit yeah. It looks pretty darn good again.

This isn’t going to compare to the pixel or the iPhone with their computational photography or anything like that. Now we’re gon na try some video, so it can do up to 4K 30 and then it does 1080p, 60 or 30.. A lot of phones do 4K, 60. But again I don’t think most people are shooting at 4K 60 and at this price point I don’t really think that’s much of an issue all right, we’re taking a video.

You can hear the microphone, I’m gon na Joss a little bit uh. That does pretty well. It’S a little blurry but again the colors are pretty consistent, if maybe a bit muted, but I think for if you just need a quick video, something or when you’re out with your kids. I just want to get that special moment. This will do it. It might not look absolutely amazing, but it does look pretty decent me and my Poco uniform so great. Oh, I got ta check for AI beautify because, while my voice might be smooth, my face is not that smooth all right, you can see in the settings here. You have the AI which actually was not on, but there is a beautify Little Star icon down here.

That shows you, your smooth and you can change that higher or lower slender didn’t do a whole lot. I guess it can’t work. Miracles. Am I right and we got big eye mode – wow, quite Desi, all right, let’s take a picture without all those AI filters on yeah it looks okay, I don’t think there’s anything we’re like. I want to go on a hot date, so I got to spruce up the profile, but I mean that is somewhat what I look like so last thing I want to check out is gameplay, as it does have a middle ground SOC. So I want to see if you can still kind of hold up with games.

Kids are playing like I don’t know, pension impact ever play against champagne, don’t join my clan, it does run pretty smoothly and I am screen recording at the same time say this one’s pretty decent. It does feel like it’s running at the full 60 hertz of the screen and uh there’s minimal hitching that I probably would just Chuck up again to the screen, recording though it seems like I’ve been kind of poo pooing the fact that it’s got mid-range Hardware. I do think that it actually has a huge benefit, because this has a 5 000 milliamp hour battery, which means that this thing should last you a long time. They actually quote as 37 hours of calling 19 hours of video, playback or 11 hours of gaming, and that’s a long time.

My iPhone lasts the day doesn’t make it into the second day. My pixel does not make it into the second day, and I’m not using these phones super super intensely, so being able to say that this lasts. That long shows that going for something – that’s maybe not the highest end, but just sips away at battery means they can actually use this phone for probably a couple days, which is really hard pressed to find another way to keep down costs is the fact that this Doesn’T have any 5G there’s no Wi-fi six, there’s no wireless charger or anything like that, but I feel like a lot of those features, aren’t super necessary or anything that you’re really going to notice in a day-to-day scenario. 5G is barely available, and if it is, you have to be outside standing by a tower, but it does have ip53 water resistance.

That means you can’t submerge it, but it will do fine in the rain. Now we haven’t actually said the price, yet just that it’s cheaper than airpods. This thing starts at 169 dollars, nice, nice. I can’t go from there when you get the higher storage whatever like that, but if you think about it, the one terabyte SD card that this thing supports could cost more than the phone itself.

It’S a screaming deal and there are quite a few players in the space, including Poco Zone M5. This thing is 140, but you lose the water resistance. You get some slightly weaker cameras slower charging, but, interestingly enough it has a 90 Hertz LCD screen. Another reason why I wish this one was more than 60 hertz, but there’s a lot of great options in this price range, but I think this one has a really good balance again, that battery life is insane.

The cameras were serviceable and the speed it kept up with genction impact and that’s no slouch most people just use it for Instagram or emails, and this thing should be able to tank through those with a breeze. Obviously, this is Quick, unbox Settings. I don’t know how this is going to last in the long term. Again, some of that Hardware is already starting to age if you’re in need of a phone or a mobile device, just in general as a music player and Camera. This seems like it could be a really solid choice and, as someone who’s only really used premium phones, I don’t think I would be that upset.

If I had to use this for work or uh broke my phone, I was ready for replacement and use this. Instead, it seems like a great stopover and that price, unbelievable thanks so much for watching. Let us know if you want us to cover more budget phones, we haven’t really been covering them. A lot for some reason, then, of course make sure to like comment and subscribe. How the turntables, I like? Being the guy who yells at people, not the one being yelled at airpods? Third gen 169.99, with charging case 179.
