Nintendo Switch vs New 3DS XL

Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “Nintendo Switch vs New 3DS XL”.
Hey, what’s up folks how’s it going. This is waj hope you guys are all doing well, so the nintendo switch has been out for a couple of weeks. We’Ve actually had the opportunity to do a lot of testing thus far, and here what we’re gon na do is compare it against the most popular dedicated handheld gaming device out there. The new 3ds xl, so first thing that we’re going to do is take a look at the design and form factor of both units. Now the key thing with the switch is that it’s a hybrid gaming system, so it can be used in handheld mode tablet, mode and in console mode. Obviously the clamshell design, a 3ds xl, is exclusively a dedicated portable handheld gaming console and can’t be used in any other fashion. Now, from a portability standpoint, the switch with the joy cons attached is going to be certainly a larger overall footprint to carry around, and certainly not as a pocket friendly as the 3ds xl and in terms of weight itself uh with the tablet alone.

It weighs at just under 300 grams, but with the joy cons attached you’re, looking at around 400 grams versus the 3ds xl uh measures around 329 grams. So it’s certainly lighter in that aspect as well now, in terms of build quality and materials, both units are made at a high quality, poly carpeting construction, and they both feel really sturdy. The switch particularly feels really nice, in the hand, has a nice overall heft towards it, and the controls regarding the buttons triggers and joysticks feel very tactile and very sturdy. Now, even though the 3ds xl has a larger screen real estate and then the switch when you combine both the upper and lower displays, and even though the 3d aspect of the top screen is kind of a cool overall gimmick, especially the fact that you don’t have To use glasses at the end of the day, no one really uses that 3d effect that much and the overall quality of the display is actually fairly horrible, especially when you start considering the display technology that’s available these days.

On the other hand, the more modern switch has a 6.3 inch capacitive touchscreen with a native resolution of a 1280×720, and when you do connect it to a modern monitor, you will get by 1080p once you dock it to the base station using the hdmi output and The overall display quality of the switch is again far superior than anything you’re gon na get on the new 3ds xl get a decent amount of sharpness. The colors and overall vibrancy and brightness of the display is far better. Now, when it comes to the performance specifications, the switch is using a custom version of the nvidia’s tegra processor. We’Re not exactly sure what the specs are when it comes to the gpu and cpu uh. Specifically, the new 3ds xl is using an updated arm. 11 quad core a chip – that’s clocked around 800 megahertz now, roughly speaking, the graphics performance you’re gon na get on the switch is probably uh slightly above what you’re gon na get on the wii? U and uh slightly below the current generation, ps4 and xbox.

One consoles, certainly below any kind of modern day gaming, pc and the graphics performance from the new 3ds xl is again going to be below pretty much most of the current generation. Smartphone games that you’re going to play. But the content is key on this console and there’s a lot of excellent titles that still makes it a pretty compelling option. Now.

The current launch titles on the switch are fairly limited, but i had a lot of fun playing legend of zelda breath of the wild and fast rmx, which is kind of a racing total wipeout kind of clone later on down the road you are going to have. Mario kart 8, the sequel to splatoon and xenoblade chronicle 2. So hopefully there’ll be some good games out there that will intrigue uh. The current switch owners right now to keep their consoles running now, both the switch and a new 3ds xl use game cartridges.

If you don’t want to download the games from the nintendo store, which is kind of nice, and they both offer micro sd expandability, there is some internal space on the switch at 32 gigabytes and you can obviously expand it to like a terabyte. Once those sd cards become more affordable and of course you could do the same with the 3ds but keep in mind games don’t take up that much room on this platform, so you don’t really need anything more than 32 or 64 gigabytes now, in terms of battery Specifications, you have a 4 310 milliamp hour battery on the switch and a 1400 milliamp hour battery on the 3ds xl and when it comes to game, time really depends upon what games you’re playing and the screen brightness. And if you have the wi-fi on or off uh, but generally speaking on, the new 3ds xl you’re, looking at three and a half to seven hours, roughly speaking, and about two and a half hours to six hours on the switch so fairly comparable overall battery life. Now you can certainly get battery extenders on both platforms, but the cool thing about the switch is that it’s using a usb type-c connection for charging, so you can easily hook it up to a universal battery extender that uses just a simple usb connection versus the 3ds You’Re going to need a battery extender specifically for the 3ds, since it uses a proprietary charging connection, but beyond those notions, that’s really it. The switch is a really different system compared to the new 3ds xl uh, certainly kind of bridging the gap between the 3ds and the wii. U, when it comes to having an all-encompassing portable, slash, handheld, slash home console solution, so definitely going to be interesting to see how it pans out and how the technology matures certainly right now the platform is fairly limited.

Content is limited and it’s really not geared for a multimedia type of user. There’S, no app support for third-party applications on the switch platform, so hopefully, with the software upgrades you’re gon na find more and more capabilities that the switch is gon na be useful for uh. As it stands, it’s a fairly limited solution that offers some pretty great capabilities in the future, so we’ll see how all the stuff pans out. If you like this video, give us a thumbs up.
