Panasonic GH5 vs Sony A7s ii - Ultimate Comparison

Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “Panasonic GH5 vs Sony A7s ii – Ultimate Comparison”.
Hey what’s up Fox Isaac on this is watch hope you guys are all doing well and in this article we’re going to be doing a head-to-head camera comparison between the brand-new, highly anticipated Panasonic gh4 and probably one of the coolest full-frame compact low-light, still / a video Camera that you can get the sony a7s mark 2 we’re going to run through the core specification differences and capabilities of both cameras and obviously run through the side-by-side head-to-head 4k camera video test. So, if you’re interested in seeing which camera has the most amount of features and the best overall video quality, this is a perfect video for you, so without any further delays. Let’S get right into the speed now, both of mirrorless cameras are actually quite similar when it comes to form factor and overall build materials of both men out of magnesium alloy. Both have excellent weather, sealing and they’re, both at a professional level when it comes to the overall fit and finish and materials use to make the camera in terms of overall footprint. Technically the a7 s mark ii is a little bit more compact, a little bit thinner and then at the GH 5, but the GH 5 isn’t too much larger in terms of weight. A both are fairly similar with the a7 s being a little bit lighter at six hundred and twenty seven grams versus six hundred and forty five grams keep in mind. This is weight without the battery or SD cards installed now organ on eclis.

I definitely think that the GH five has a little bit of an edge up. It feels a little bit better in the hand, there’s more custom buttons, a better navigation tools. The screen is also fully articulating flip-out, it’s a little bit larger 3.2 inches the colors. Look a little bit more vibrant and sharper than the display on the sony and plus the sony only has a semi articulation.

It’S only a tilting screen. So if you do any self filming vlogging things like that, as since the screen is a little bit more versatile, it definitely makes the camera a little bit more easier to use, especially when you’re a one-man operation. The both cameras have an organic led electronic viewfinder. The GH 5 has a slightly higher dog count: 3.6 million versus 2.3 million on the sony, but generally they both look fantastic when it comes to sharpness, Clare and overall color rendition. So no complaints there.

Now one of the key distinctions between the two definitely has to be the sensor size. We have a full-frame sensor on the a7 s mark 2 versus the gh 5 continues to use the Micro Four Thirds sensor. That Panasonic is now very famous for and it’s an excellent sensor, although it is half the size of the Sony now in terms of resolution, there’s also a pretty big difference between the two.

Even though the Panasonic has a hat, the sensor size, it’s actually quite a decent. A resolution of 20.3 megapixels versus a DA 7 s2 is using a 12 megapixel sensor. So one of the unique things about the a7 S series is the fact that you have that large full-frame sensor and only 12 megapixels. So that means that each photo site in each pixel is going to contact a much larger amount of photons, which means that the lowly performance is going to be absolutely sensational, which is quite unique in a camera that has a full-frame 4k sensor in this kind of Form factor now the panasonic gh4 is going to have a hard time competing against the sony, but we’re going to take a look at the ISO performance later on in this article now in terms actual sensitivity rating, the g h5 can go all the way down from 100 to twenty-five thousand six hundred ISO at the a7s2 can go 50 to well over 400,000 ISO.

So there’s a nine-day difference between the ISO sensitivity rating, both when it comes to Stills and video performance. Now, since we’re specifically interested in the video capabilities of both of these two cameras, we’re not going to go over some of the steals capabilities and features that both cameras have to offer. Certainly they’re great stills cameras. But I think most people interested in these two are going to be specifically looking at the video capabilities on both platforms.

So in terms of actual resolution and frame rates, starting with the g h5, it can actually record a maximum resolution of 4096 by 2160. At twenty five to twenty three point: nine eight frames per second, so this is technically the standard of cinema 4k. It can also shoot in the standard Ultra HD resolution of 3840 by 2160 at up to fifty nine point, nine four per second, which is really impressive. So you can actually shoot 60 P at the full 4k resolution, and the big thing about this camera is that it has in camera for 2 to 10-bit video recording at around 150 megabits per second, which is absolutely insane most of the time you’re going to have To output to an external recorder to get at that kind of a bitrate and color depth, so that’s really awesome that Panasonic has now included inside the camera. Now comparatively the a7s2 can shoot Ultra HD 3840 by 2160 at 24 to 30 fps. There’S no cinema a 4k standard and there’s no 60fps at 4k resolution to do that you’re going to have to bump down the resolution to 1080p.

Now both cameras have uncompress clean, HDMI output. So if you’re going to do some external recording, you do have that option. For a better video quality, so that’s great on the Sony side, since it doesn’t have the greatest internal video recording capabilities. Technically speaking, the gee-gees 5 does have a full size, HDMI connection versus the micro HDMI connection they have on the Sony.

Both cameras do have a microphone and headphone jack, so the internal audio capability is actually pretty good for monitoring your audio and connecting an external microphone. We have a USB type-c connection on a dgh 5. So it’s a very modern camera with the latest connectivity options both have internal Wi-Fi capabilities for monitoring, with your smart phone and everything like that and lastly, when it comes to the battery life, the gh 5, I typically found lasts about 15 % a longer battery performance. It’S rated for about 410 images on the still site versus 370 stills images on at the a7s2 has a much smaller battery and the charge time is a little bit quicker, but generally you’re going to get a longer duration of run time, using a single GH v Battery which, typically for me, even when recording 4k video, lasted up to three-and-a-half hours versus I got around at two hours on a da 7s2.

Now that I’ve done, let’s actually take a look at the real world of video capturing capabilities from a side-by-side perspective. So we’re going to run through a couple of different scenes and keep in mind that we’re using the same lens on both cameras a little bit of a framing a perspective that changes since there are different sensor sizes, but they’re both going to be fairly equivalent when It comes to a framing perspective and then, after that, we’re going to run through a low-light ISO performance test, as well as a rolling shutter test. So that way you can determine which one looks better to your eyes. So, let’s get right into it now they kind of sum up everything.

I would generally say that the gh five is definitely the more capable camera when it comes from a video quality standpoint. Certainly, it gives you the higher bitrate, the better color depth and the more flexibility when it comes to a post-production standpoint, and you generally don’t need to get an external recorder like you would have to get if you’re going to do any kind of serious professional work With the a7 s mark, that being said, you cannot beat or match the low-light performance that the a7 s mark 2 has to present currently right now, there’s not really any camera in its price range or its form factor that lives up to that quality. When it comes from a low-light perspective and a 4k video camera, it is certainly a capable one, but, generally speaking, I think most people are probably going to save the little bit of money and get the gh 5. It’S definitely a solid video camera as well as stills camera, but certainly more of a dedicated video grafite amaura than anything else.

So if it was my decision of whether to get the gh 5 or the a7 s mark 2, I think the gh 5 has just enough low-light performance to kind of pass things by and certainly you can get better low-light lenses and even upgrade to a speed. Booster to get better overall low-light performance and improve the overall field of view by going from a micro, 4/3 sensor to an aps-c size sensor with some of the meta bones and lens turbo adapters that are out there and obviously we’re going to have a full review For the gh 5 coming up very very soon check out the link in the description down below or on the card if that review isn’t available right now when you’re watching this video, but other than that. Thank you so much for watching.
