Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “GTX 1660 vs AMD RX 590”.
What’S up folks how’s it going, this watch hope you guys are all doing well and today we’re taking a look at the zotex gtx 1660. This is an alternative solution to the ti version of the gpu that we looked at a few weeks ago. This version over here retails for around 220 dollars and it should be a prime candidate to compete against the amd rx 590 and should be a lot faster than the previous generation 1060.. We’Re going to take a look at how it performs against those graphics cards, but first, let’s see how it compares against the uh ti version. Both are running on the same 2u116 architecture and they both have the same number of transistors about 6.6 billion. But there is a difference in terms of the numbers of cuda cores.
We have 1536 on the ti version versus 1408 and the clock speed on this particular version that we have from zotek is a 1785 megahertz and obviously you can tweak that a little bit further. If you just decide to overclock now, there’s a slight difference in terms of memory, even though they have the same capacity of six gigabytes, but we are using a gddr5 on the 1660 versus the ti version is using gddr6, and the ti version also has a faster Memory clock speed: it runs at 12 gigabits, a second versus uh, eight gigabits, a second on the standard card both have the same tdp rating of about 120 watts and in terms of msrp you’re. Looking at about 279 dollars for the base version of the 1660 ti versus the standard version starts around at 219.
Now we’ll also throw up the previous generation specifications for the gtx 1060. So that way, you guys get a better comparison between the old and the new cards and i’m gon na now stop talking and you’re gon na look at the gaming benchmark results at 1080p and quad hd resolution with these three cards from nvidia, as well as the Amd rx 590 from sapphire, so let’s get right into it, do do as you saw from the benchmark results. The 1660 is slightly faster than the previous generation at 1060.. You can get uh performance gains all the way from around six to around ten percent, which is uh, definitely nice, but not worth upgrading if you’re coming from a 1060., if you’re building a new pc on a little bit of a budget and want a gpu for In the 200 mark or just low 200 dollars, definitely a feasible solution for that kind of scenario, because you have to keep in mind that, although the rx 590 in most scenarios is faster, it is a significantly more expensive anywhere between 280 onwards.
Unless you get it used or on sale, you’re, typically gon na find that gpu for a little bit more expensive than what the current generation 1660s are going for. If you do have a little bit of money, i would definitely recommend the ti version over the standard version. Uh you’re definitely going to get a little bit more bang for the dollar with that card, but the 1660 standard version is not too bad for a brand new card for the low 200 mark.
