What's the Best Apple Watch? Series 6 vs SE vs Series 3

Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “What’s the Best Apple Watch? Series 6 vs SE vs Series 3”.
What’S up folks how’s it going this watch hope you guys are all doing all and today we’ll be doing a head-to-head showdown comparison between the current lineup of apple watches for 2020.. We’Ve been doing a lot of testing with the new series six, but we also have the mid-range se model, which got launched coincide with the series 6 in 2020, as well as this series 3, which actually was released in 2017, but is still being offered as a Budget alternative to the apple watch now, first, let’s talk about price well for the wi-fi gps versions of all these watches you’re looking about 199 for the series, 3 279 for the sc and 399 for the series 6 respectively. Now the quick and dirty answer to this question is actually relatively simple. This series six has all the bells and whistles, including the latest generation internal processor, with this s6 processor, always on a retina display, as well as an ecg and blood oxygen sensor. That is becoming more and more important, especially in the world of uh covet 19, where getting a accurate blood oxygen. Saturation rating in your red blood cells will actually determine how badly you’re affected by the viral illness. Now the apple watch sc pretty much looks identical uh to the series six in terms of having the same exact design as well as the exact same display configuration and you still have an optical heart rate monitor as well as things like fall, detection, compass and an Always-On altimeter, now being several generations old, the series 3 isn’t as fast and doesn’t have the same design and display, as the other two newer apple watches, but it still shares many of the core features in terms of fitness and health tracking. Now later in this article, we are going to be doing some performance tests with the series 3 and seeing how it compares against the newer generation models in terms of general performance in terms of asking siri questions and opening up different applications that you’re gon na do. On a day-to-day basis, now in terms of the core design and a navigation interface of the apple watch, things really haven’t changed all that much from the series three to the series. Six, you still have a very responsive capacitive touch screen on all three devices, a digital crown, as well as a side button for most of your controlling and navigation purposes. Now the digital crown itself is a little bit different on the series. Three, you are looking at the first generation which didn’t have the haptic feedback capabilities as the newer gen watches, which allows you to feel a little clicky sensation when you’re turning the digital crown, which brings a level of mechanical and tactileness to a digital interface, which feels Very satisfying beyond that, in terms of material design, glass and color options, the series 6 certainly has the most to offer. Although the series 3 initially came with a multiple different material design, aluminum ceramic and stainless steel, currently right now, it’s only available in aluminum, just like the s e is and color options are fairly limited as well.

Now the series six is certainly the most customizable. You have three different material options, including aluminum, stainless steel and titanium. The aluminum has a whole bunch of different color options, with the new option of blue and product red, not to mention the standard, silver space, gray and rose gold finishes, and you also have a number of different tints available in the titanium and stainless steel models.

Now, in terms of the band configurations, pretty much all three of these watches have a ton of different variety of options, not to mention options both from apple and third-party manufacturers, obviously with the se and series six, if you have the same 44, millimeter versions, they’re interchangeable And you can use the new uh solo band, which is my personal favorite band. It’S basically a one size, uh fit for your specific wrist super convenient and probably the go-to sports band, in my opinion. Now, unfortunately, since the series 3 utilized a 38 and 42 millimeter case design, it can’t actually be interchangeable.

With the sc and series 6 watch bands, it’s going to specifically rely on the series 3 or 38 42 millimeter bands available that are still plenty full, both from apple side and third party alike. Now, in terms of durability, from a glass perspective, both the sc and current version of the series 3 come with ion strengthened glass, which is fairly shatter and scratch resistant. But it’s not going to be as durable or as good. Looking as the sapphire crystal glass options available on the titanium and stainless steel versions of the new series, 6., however, when it comes to water resistance, thankfully all three of these meet the 50 meter at depth.

Standard they’re fully swim proof and you will have no problem in getting all three of these watches extremely wet now in terms of overall mass and form factor. The series, 6 and sc are pretty much identical in terms of physical dimensions. If you get the aluminum 44 millimeter versions, they weigh exactly the same 36 grams and only about 10.4 millimeters. In terms of thickness. Now we have the 38 millimeter version of the aluminum series 3, which is super light only weighs about 26 grams, but it is slightly thicker at around 11.4 grams and if you get the 42 millimeter version of the series 3, it is still lighter at 32 grams. With the same thicker profile of 11.4 millimeters now visually, probably the biggest differences between the new gen apple watch and the previous generation series 3 has to be the larger display.

We have 30 larger display on both the sc and series 6, which are identical in terms of display configuration. Not only do we have a higher resolution, better pixel density count and a better screen to body ratio that makes using the watch on a day-to-day basis and navigating through the apps a lot easier for people that have large fat fingers like myself. Now all three devices use an oled display, so the black levels and brightness is sensational you’re looking at over a thousand nits. So using these watches outside is definitely no problem, but on the newer generation, watches apple is utilizing low temperature, polycrystalline oxide on their backplane technology.

So that makes the organic led a little bit more energy efficient, which is supposed to give a little bit better battery life, but usually that means they can use a smaller battery in order to make the entire watch interface a little bit more energy efficient. Furthermore, on the series 6, we have the always on retina display, so that means the display is pretty much showing you the important information. Every time you look at in terms of time and notifications and they’re using uh variable refresh timings in order to save some battery life for that feature as well now, let’s talk about the array of sensors and capabilities, that’s built inside on all three watches. Firstly, they all have optical heart rate monitors now the series 3 uses the kind of first generation optical heart rate monitoring system developed by apple, which is fairly good and fairly accurate.

I’Ll give you even notifications of whether you have irregular and high and low heart beats, which is definitely a nice feature from a health and wellness perspective. Additionally, on the series 6 and se, you have the second generation optical heart rate, monitor, which is a little bit more accurate, faster to respond and give you a reading and on the series 6. We also have the secondary electrical heart rate, monitor located on the digital crown, which, in conjunction with the optical, will give you an ecg or ekg rating, which is a good if you want to detect any signs of an afib. Furthermore, the big new feature, as we mentioned before, is the oximeter, which is a dedicated array of leds, that they’ve embedded into the heart rate, monitor on the series.

Six, that in about 15 seconds, will give you an accurate rating of how saturated your red blood cells are with oxygen. A good underlying marker for overall health, as well as a helpful indicator of how well you’re recovering, if you’re, finding any kind of viral or respiratory illness beyond that another key safety feature on the sc and series 6. They have built-in fall detection with a more sensitive accelerometer that can sense g-forces up to 32 g’s. By contrast, the accelerometer on the series 3 can only support g-forces up to 16 g’s and has no fall detection built in additionally.

The newer generation watches also have active hearing loss prevention built in so they actively monitor the auditory levels of your environment and will give you a notification of when the levels become dangerous to your hearing beyond that from a navigational standpoint, all three of these watches utilize Gps as well as gnns satellite navigation system, but the series 6 and the se have a compasses built in as well as an always-on altimeter. Moreover, there are some overlapping features. All three watches have a multi-access gyroscope ambient light sensor, speaker and microphone configuration built in with the exception that the speaker on the newer gen watches are 50 louder, as well as the microphone has built-in noise cancellation, which makes voice recognition and dictation to siri. A lot easier now from a processing and wireless connectivity standpoint when it comes to the sip or what apple calls system in package we’re using the latest generation s6 chip, which is a 64-bit dual core processor. It’S about 20 percent faster than the previous generation s5 chip found on the series 5.. It also has the w3 apple wireless chip, as well as the u1 ultra wide band frequency wireless chip, which currently right now is not being utilized with the apple watch.

But soon will enable some other features now internally, the se is pretty much identical, uh to the previous generation series 5. So it’s using the s5 dual core processor, that’s about twice as fast as the s3 chip found on the series 3.. We also have the w3 wireless chip versus the w2 wireless chip on the series 3.. Now we have wi-fi and bluetooth embedded in all three of these devices, with the exception that, on the series six, we can connect wi-fi channels at five gigahertz as well. As two point four gigahertz and we have a bluetooth, five on both the scn series, six versus bluetooth, 4.2 on the series three and nfc apple payment embedded inside on all three devices as well. Now, when we take a look at the actual performance differences between all three of these watches, in terms of most every day-to-day things, you’re not going to notice a dramatic a difference, it only depends upon if you’re gon na run a whole bunch of different applications at The same time or, if you’re, using some graphically cpu intensive based applications that are becoming more and more available on the apple watch platform, but for the sake of conversion, let’s actually run through a couple of different performance tests. First, let’s take a look at the overall boot up time of all three watches now, certainly uh the series six booted up the fastest.

It only took about 35 seconds versus 38 seconds on the sc, which has the s5 processor and uh. It took about one minute 24 seconds for the series three, which is definitely a lot slower, and this performance test is probably the most dramatic difference that i encounter from the series three in every other uh scenario that you’re gon na find yourself in that you’re. Not going to notice a huge difference, take a look at the response time of siri when i ask us some basic questions on all three watches: what’s the longest day of the year, here’s what i found! Here’S, what i found! Here’S, what i found! What’S the tesla stock today, tesla went up significantly today, quite a bit.

Today. Tesla went up quite a bit today now in terms of loading up different applications, i’m not a huge difference across all three platforms. I did notice that some applications that are uh utilizing a lot of data to be pulled from the cloud definitely took a little bit longer to load on the series three, but it’s a marginal difference. Nonetheless, i noticed that spotify was a little bit more laggier and obviously the ui can get bogged down quicker if you’re starting to load up some cpu intensive applications on the series.

Three versus you’ll never really encounter that on the sc, and certainly i never on the series six now in terms of the difference between the series six and the sc, i really didn’t notice. Anything at this point. Uh, the s6 processor and the s5 processor are very, very similar in terms of user experience. One thing i did notice is that on cpu and gpu based applications that are very intensive, which are not really that plentiful on the watch os platform.

But one of my favorite apps is night sky. It’S an astronomy-based application that allows you to navigate the stars, find different constellation and it utilizes the cpu and gpu quite intensively on the newer generation apple watches and on the series. 3. It’S really quite laggy. The frame rate is very choppy and it’s certainly not as responsive, and it doesn’t run as smooth as on the sc and a series 6.. Now also, let’s talk about the achilles heel of all apple watches, and that is the battery life pretty much.

All of these are rated for 18 hours of regular usage based on apple’s recommendations and in terms of capacity. They do vary quite a bit, but the se and the series 6 basically have a 300 milliamp hour non removable lithium ion battery inside for the 44 millimeter aluminum versions and on the series 3. We have the 38 millimeter version, which has a tiny 262 milliamp hour battery, as well as the 42 millimeter has the largest battery at around 342 milliamp hours, uh, typically you’re, again gon na last throughout the day for the most part, but i know some people that Struggle to get basically eight hours if they’re heavily using the launch on a very consistent basis, certainly if you’re using the optical heart rate, monitor for a lot of long duration. Fitness activities that definitely likes to drain battery life quite quickly as well, but generally speaking, same charging procedure uh with the proprietary magnetic charger and charging, is relatively quick on all three of these devices.

Basically, under an hour and a half will get you a full charge. If you’re completely at zero percent to begin with now beyond all those factors, if i had to pick one watch out of the three i’d, probably go with the se, it has all of the basic requirements that i need. It has the better display the same overall configuration look as the newer generation apple watches, and i typically don’t really need ecg or ekg sensor, as well as blood oxygen. For the time being, i can kind of pass on. I know i’m pretty much in the healthy range, so for me, i’d probably save the 120 or so dollars and get myself an se. And if you are in a little bit of a budget and want just a great overall smart watch with all the core features and uh, maybe don’t care too much about the modern look or don’t really care about the display too much uh for the price of The series 3 is an awesome watch, especially for under 200..
