The backlight bleed is real. The color accuracy is not professional grade. There is no height or pivot adjustment. The speakers are rather weak.
The hdr really isn’t all that good. The one millisecond response time is not graded gray, it’s vrb or visual response boost, which is just as lame as it sounds. Do you want an epic 27 inch, 1440p 240hz gaming monitor with deep blacks, uniform, colors and awesome response time? No problem just spend 600 on a samsung odyssey g7, and your problem is solved well, except for the price tag.
That’S triple this monitor. You tend to get what you pay for when it comes to monitors. One key point: to keep in mind is that monitor companies in general and acer specifically tend to make about 457 versions of each monitor. They do this partly to confuse the market, partly to allow stores to have unique model numbers so that you can’t price match or easily comparison shop and partly because they tweak the panels and features over time as they swap parts around or change suppliers. This monitor in front of me here is a vg271u.
You can also buy a vg270u a vg272u, a vg271 without the? U, which is a 1080p version of this monitor and so on. Some of them have hdr 400. Some do not at the time of filming the vg270u was the deal at 220 on newegg link to the video description below, but note that that monitor does not have hdr support. But honestly, at this price point, you’re not missing anything.
Hdr 400 is barely worth even calling high dynamic range. The hdr that you may have seen in a store on a big high-end, expensive tv display is usually hdr 1000, with a premium local signal designed to show off the very best of what is possible. That is not this. What this monitor does provide is value for the money for 200. It really makes no sense to buy a 1080p monitor anymore, or even a 60hz monitor for that matter. This will get the job done and do so on a reasonable budget.
It is also worth noting that this sort of monitor lends itself very well to buying more than one as it has a thin bezel and a price point that doesn’t hurt too much if you buy two or three of them to either put next to each other Or even on top of each other, using a monitor arm, which, thankfully, is easy due to the included visa mount, i’m now going to turn the studio lights down and move the monitor around so that you can see the viewing angles and color in the dark, because, With all the lights turned on, it really only looks good in one direction, at least to the camera’s eye. While you can’t see me very well anymore, but yes, i’m still here, the monitor now radiates its brightness to the camera very well. Now i will caution you that i am recording a screen with a camera, which means it’s never going to look the same as it does in person, but i can tell you for 200. This is a really nice value. I am now going to turn the monitor to the left and you will see its quality and yes, it’s moving a bit because it does not have a pivot base. Unfortunately, that is an extremely sharp angle right there, and at least to my eye from looking at the camera’s, monitor, that’s still very good quality image.
That is an incredibly view. Good viewing angle – and that is what you get with the ips display – is a very good viewing angle, which a va or a tn will not i’ll keep taking it all the way around. So you can see just how far it goes. That is an ex that’s. Almost edge on you would not watch a monitor at that viewing angle, but the fact that it’s still, that good indicates that viewing angle, at least horizontal, is simply not an issue. I am now going to tilt the monitor up, and that is as far as it tilts on the included tilt stance.
You see just from the angle. It’S tilted pretty far up, i’m going to artificially continue tilting it back just so. You can see what it looks like it does start to fade away, but who watches a monitor from this angle anyway? Nobody and then in terms of tilting forward. We will tilt it all the way down. It does tilt more than horizontal, so it actually is angled down at the moment on the built-in included stand, and i still think it is pretty good if you want to have a full set of controls in terms of height and pivot and everything else, then you Either need to buy a vesa mount arm that mounts onto the back of the monitor or you need to just buy a more expensive monitor. The acer predator series does include more adjustments, but obviously those cost more.
Would i buy this monitor? Yes, without a doubt, we own two of this specific model which are going to my daughter to provide her an upgrade from her 27 inch. 1080P monitor that is now 10 years old and badly due for a replacement. We also own a 1080p version and a 4k version of this same nitro model, both of which are mounted on monitor arms and used in our office. One is on our streaming setup and one is on our benchmarking station. It really is solid value for the money. It’S not the best, but it’s one of the best values in terms of function for the price. If you want super premium, this isn’t that, but it also isn’t budget busting either.
