Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “New Genesis GV80 2021!”.
Thanks genesis for sponsoring this video genesis means the start of something new, it’s a new beginning and i couldn’t think of a more appropriate name for a car company introducing their first suv. So this is the all-new 2021 genesis. Gv80, a car that’s clearly geared to drive the company to the future, but before they get there, i think it’s important to take a look at where they began, so maybe you’ve never heard of genesis, or maybe you still think of it as just one car. The genesis name actually started its life in 2008 as a flagship, hyundai and people loved the car.
It became very clear that a lot of people were clamoring for more luxury from hyundai, so it made sense for the brand to spin off the genesis name into its very own luxury brand. So in 2015 the genesis brand was born, so genesis has been fleshing out their brand and made sense. They began with sedans. So as of now, there are three sedans of varying sizes and they start with the smallest, the g70. Then it goes up a little bigger. The g80 and then the biggest one, the g90, but it’s very clear that they were missing the suvs or the one of the largest growing segments of cars so enter the flagship suv, the gv80 and with the starting price of just under 49 000. This is probably one of the best entry points for any luxury vehicle.
From really any manufacturer. Suvs nowadays are like a dime a dozen like just look at any any parking lot and you’ll chances are. You will see more suvs than sedans and it’s hard to make an suv now that stands out that looks unique and different, and i think genesis has done that with the gv80. It’S kind of boundless by design. When you look at the front, it’s a very bold grill and you can identify that as a genesis, but also the cars subtle in areas where i think cars should be subtle, especially when it comes to the side panels.
You don’t have really sharp angles or lines where a lot of other manufacturers try to make their cars stand out. I think what genesis did was bold when it’s called for and subtle when it’s necessary. The first thing you notice about this car, whether it’s in your rearview mirror or looking at a dealership, is the evolving crest grill.
It’S kind of a evolution of the genesis logo, it’s big and it’s bold, and usually i’m not the biggest fan of gigantic grills. But i think genesis did a really nice job with this one in the design language. I think it actually adds to the boldness of the car without making it like a look at me style statement. So the pattern in the grille – it’s called g-matrix and it’s a design language genesis is using and if you look in certain parts of the car, you’ll see that pattern kind of start to appear aside from the evolving crest grille kind of the other. Identifying feature of this car are the quad lamps in the front and in the back, if you see this car at night, it’s going to be a very identifiably genesis, either from the front or the back, i’m so looking at this car, it’s a big car like There’S weight to it, you probably don’t expect an suv of the size to drive all that. Well, because that’s kind of the way it’s always been with bigger suvs uh, not so, with the gv80 version we have has like the chart, topping 3.5 liter twin turbo v6.
An suv has no reason driving this well and handling this well. This car was clearly designed with like performance in mind. I mean in the front you’ve got 15-inch rotors. Those are things that, were you know for supercars, not that long ago this thing was built and tuned to be driven, and when you do, it really does a great job so that how a car handles and performance is certainly way more than just an engine. It’S how the car was built and there’s a lot of tech inside of the gv80, that sort of helps it achieve that really fun driving experience. So it’s got an electronic linen slip differential, which is really nice to have that sort of helps with stability. You can determine how much power is going to different sides of the car. I think it’s nice to have, and you get the peace of mind, that in slippery situations and rain or snow, your car is going to feel planted when you’re driving so ultimately driving the car was a really nice experience. This felt like a finely tuned machine when i wanted sporty, it was sporty when i wanted comfort, it was comfortable.
Whatever sort of mood i was in the car offered a drive mode to suit it. That’S not something that you see very often in really any suv. Let alone an suv at this price point, so the outside of the car and the driving is one thing, but the inside of it where you are sitting and how most people experience their cars. It’S a totally different thing, so i’m not even going to editorialize at all like just look at the inside of the gv80 i’m so. The first thing is the quilted seats and i’m gon na tell you they are as comfortable as they look. What you can’t see is the full and awesome massaging seat function that the driver’s seat has there’s full support for your thighs that can come out. These are amongst the most comfortable seats.
I’Ve ever sat in before they started rubbing my back other things that you notice about this car, the high touch areas, the materials feel really premium, the analog roll dials, they feel like they have weights to them. The floating center console the open pour wood, the leathers that are used throughout every single area that you touch and look at in this car really just feels and screams premium. There’S a cool combination of analog and digital, going on here as well, so you’ve got capacitive buttons for the hvac system, but as you touch it, it’s giving you a bit of vibration so get that real button feel with the convenience of a touchscreen and the technology Serve also goes through as you’re driving, you’ve probably heard of active noise canceling most people think about it as headphones. You know you, you don’t hear people screaming when you’re on an airplane, so that technology is like actually in the car as well with road active noise cancellation, it’s kind of doing the reverse sound waves of the noise.
That’S coming in! To give you a cabin that is really quiet, they’re little subtle features, and usually you see a few of them in different cars. But very rarely do you see all of them in one car which again makes this a really fun and enjoyable car to not just drive but like to actually just be in a car at this price point that looks the way it does. There are certain, like barriers to entry things you would expect the car to to have so first, at least for me, is 360 cameras, that’s sort of something i need a car to have, and it’s here it’s a really cool feature too. We actually get a picture of the car and you can move it around to see what’s happening around you, but the highlight of the car and probably the first thing.
You’Ll notice, after the quilted leather seats is the insanely ultra wide 14.5 inch screen and it is a touchscreen as well. You’Ve got a rotary knob in the floating center console, so you can pick how you want to interact with it and if you want to use your phone, obviously things like carplay and android auto are supported and look beautiful uh in the ultra wide screen, all right, But that’s not the only screen, so behind the wheel, you’ve got a 12.3 inch digital display and we’ve seen those before this one’s got a trick. It actually is utilizing 3d technology, so it’s tracking your eyes. Essentially what it’s doing is it’s making the digital gauges. Look like they’re substance to them, uh and it absolutely works. Practice doesn’t really add much, but it does make the car feel a little bit more special.
What does make a huge difference, though, is the heads-up display. It is 12 inches, so that makes it the biggest amongst its competitors and it is incredibly useful and you can pick and choose what information you want to have up there. Obviously i like having the speed, but also you can see all of these smart features.
The car has displayed up there, so things like the adaptive cruise control lane keep assist, there’s a lot of little things that the car can do to just make for a really fun and easy driving experience. I think one of the barriers to entries in the luxury car system is a really good sound system and genesis delivers here. So the system that our car has is by lexicon.
It’S got 21 different speakers in 17 different locations, including subwoofers, under the seat. So, for me my audiobooks, you know, sounded awesome, but if you listen to a lot of music you’re going to get a really good, even balanced music listening experience in the car, so that’s all the tech in the car, except for one thing – and i think i Saved the coolest feature for last uh, it’s called remote smart parking assist. What it lets you do is control your car with you not being in it from your key fob, so imagine trying to pull your car into a really tight space. Maybe you don’t have the room to open your doors and get out. You could use this to pull the car right in or maybe the opposite. You want to get the car out.
You can do it in reverse as well. Obviously, if it detects things, it’s not going to hit it. When you take your finger off the button, it stops immediately.
It’S a really welcome feature and one that’s been surprisingly useful to have so that’s the gv80 and starting at 49 000. It comes in way lower than the competition we’re really bringing a lot of premium luxury features as standard that are options from the competitors and that’s kind of the mantra of what you’re getting with genesis, you’re, getting no compromise luxury and really good performance. So, if you’re in the market for a nice sized suv – and you want something in the premium segment, i think you owe it to yourself to at least look at the all-new gv80 .
