Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “iPhone 13: Wait for it?”.
Iphone today, apple is going to reinvent the phone, because this is the most powerful fastest iphone we’ve ever made. This is beyond the doubt the most precise thing, one of the most beautiful things we’ve ever made. It is the most advanced iphone we’ve ever created. I kind of miss the old days. We’Re used to be surprised by iphone events that the special feeling of waiting all year long with anticipation, building to find out what apple was going to do next.
So back when the only thing we knew for certain was that they were going to come out on stage and say these are the most powerful and most advanced iphones that we have ever built in a stunning new design. But that’s how things have been for the past few years. It seems like the moment a new phone, iphone or otherwise is announced, there’s already rumors of the next one coming out and with all these rumors, the iphone 13 coming, and there are some juicy ones. I want to talk about what we can expect.
We cannot expect and i’m saving what i consider to be the juiciest little bit for last, all right. So what we know – and i’m gon na say no in like huge air – quotes grain assault, the rest of that stuff that you expect it’s rumors apple can change their mind. They decide not to put stuff in um, but there’s a lot changing on the next iphone, but not everything so we’ll see the edge design at the iphone 12 line brought back being used for the iphone 13, which means it’s going to physically have the same kind Of boxy iphone 4 iphone 5s shape. I like it, i dig it it’s sticking around for a couple more years. I will also likely see the same price point and storage capacities that we’ve had for the iphone 12 line and, of course, you know 5g is going to be there not going to ax it after just finally giving it to us. I think also we’ll see the same four different iphone models next year that we had this year. The iphone mini sales have not been very good accounting for, like five ish percent of total sales. I don’t think that apple is going to be gone with the divinity of little iphone.
So also reports are saying that the lidar sensor is currently on the pro models. The 12 will be coming to the whole shebang of iphone 13 phones. That’Ll give you obviously better room mapping some stuff that helps with portrait mode focusing and maybe some other stuff that apple hasn’t told us. Yet what we’re not going to see is the telephoto cameras that are on the pro models make their way into the regular iphone 13, which i think is a bummer.
I use a telephoto all the time i like having it, but if apple’s going to have pro models or call them pro, it’s got to be something to separate them. So for right now, at least another year it appears one of those somethings is going to be telephoto. So on the iphone 12 pro max apple has something called sensor shifts. It helps with stabilization. There’S some rumors floating around. That sensor shift is going to make its way across the entire iphone 13 lineup. I don’t see that happening.
It seems more like something that’ll make its way to all the pro models, so the pro and pro max, but it would be nice to see what i think is a really good feature that helps tremendously with stability make its way across the entire iphone 13 line. All right so there’s a lot of like camera, stuff, allegedly happening, and the differences with the pro and the pro max make it more confusing, and one of those things could be astrophotography mode kind of straight out of google’s playbook uh ming chi quo reports that the Entire iphone 13 lineup so pros and regular will get upgraded sensor and lens for the ultra wide camera, with better low-light detection and the next-gen processor in all of the phones will be the a15. So i’d expect big improvements on the software side. What the processor can do, especially when it comes to pro raw things, that the phones are physically capable of and all those are speculations we do not know for certain, but there is one thing we do know for 100 certainty that i can stake my reputation on It it’s gon na, be the fastest phone ever surprise, surprise, uh and because of it’s gon na be the fastest one. Ever it’s gon na have apple’s newest chip in it uh the a15, and at this point it’s widely accepted apple. Silicon is very good. Uh and honestly, i’m excited to see where they go with this set of chips with the m1 kind of already out and personally, i’ve been blown away by it in my macbook air, i’m expecting things to be even better when it comes to the iphone.
The biggest thing that i’ve seen with my air has been battery life, so my hope is that something that apple has done with their m1 chip will make its way to the a15 and battery life should be absolutely ballin. In the months i’ve been using, my air i’ve probably had to charge the thing like 10 times and i’m not exaggerating battery life. Is that good and we can get a battery life improvement without upping straight milliamp hours by five ten percent. That is huge. I think apple has the silicon expertise now and the vertical integration to make it happen. Um it’s wishlist, it’s not based on rumors, it’s hope, but i think we’re finally going to see a huge battery jump with the next gen iphone.
So that was all stuff that i think with a high level of certainty, we’re going to see, but there’s also stuff that you’re, like i don’t know, maybe there’s been some reports on it. So here are some of those things that there’s like a slight chance, but i wouldn’t like bank on it, and i did this with wireless charging. I would say every year the iphone needs wireless charging and then one day it took many years. I was right and my new wireless charging is a higher refresh rate display 120 hertz.
I am going to die on that hill. That apple needs it, i’m going to say it’s going to come to the iphone 13 pro and it’s probably going to be called pro motion now. Supposedly it was killed the last minute for the 12 pro max observed with battery life, especially with 5g being introduced there. So perhaps they’re banking on the a15 kind of swooping in superman style, saving the day with battery efficiency or maybe they’re, going to go the old-fashioned way and just throw more milliamp hours in there uh.
But i do expect 120 hertz to be in the phone. So, on top of that, new reports are also saying that apple’s getting introduced and always on display, finally to the iphone 13 lineup which for some people they might not care about. For me, though, i think that’s cool if it does, but i’m just all about the 120 hertz. I think for a phone that comes out in 2021 costs a thousand plus dollars. It has to have 120 hertz like at this point. It is ridiculous. Almost a meme style joke that it doesn’t.
Having said that, i’ll believe it, when i see it, what is giving me some hope of 120 hertz is reports coming out to the iphone 13 will be slightly two seas: thicker uh than the iphone 12 pro max and again maybe battery life um for the extra 120 hertz, so what does seem more likely than not uh is touch id making comeback, not with the expense of face id or at least some form of fingerprint reading, making its way into the phone, especially in the age of wearing, masks all the time uh. It makes sense for there to be redundant biometric options uh. What we don’t know yet uh is how they’re gon na do it, whether they’re gon na go ipad air style and put it into the power button. Whether they’re gon na go in display there’s been rumors of apple testing kind of everything i will say, though somebody who’s tested the galaxy s21, which is using qualcomm’s newest, really big ultrasonic sensor under the screen. It is really fast and really accurate and i have a hard time seeing apple, not just taking that almost off the shelf part being able to put it into the iphone.
It was that good the technology for under screen fingerprinters has gotten so amazing. There’S almost no reason not to put it there, but like 120 hertz i’ll i’ll, believe it when i see it so speaking of things uh under the screen, we will not be seeing the magical mythical at this point: edge shed screen design with an under screen. Selfie camera on the iphone 13 will slow the notch the notch is going to be slimmed down. Uh original rumors were saying that it was going to be slimmed down like width-wise.
The new reports are saying it’s going to be shorter, which will take up less screen. Real estate and just be less, i don’t know notchy when you look at it all right. So i did say i would say i’m excited you can see that i’m bouncing i’d say: i’d save the controversial ones for last so uh, let’s get a little wild here with things that may probably not be on the iphone 13, but but could be so a Friend of the channel john prost reported that apple’s next line of phones will not be called the iphone 13 at all, it’ll be called the iphone 12s, so the next lineup of phones will be 12s mini the 12s 12s pro and just the rolling off the tongue. 12S pro max and that the phone after that will be the iphone 14 so i’ll, be skipping iphone 13. All together and processor’s saying what you’d expect right. 13 is kind of an unlucky number. Certain customs and traditions put extra emphasis on it being a really bad number, so apple’s going to skip it, who knows they’ve, certainly done ios 13. They haven’t shied away from 13s before i think this next one is actually going to be the 12s if it seems like a smaller upgrade, it makes sense to kind of bring back that s naming scheme, but skipping a number all together.
Who knows apple’s done it before or they’re gon na skip the 13? I don’t know at this point just give me a new phone give 120 hertz. I don’t care if you call it the iphone 13 s pro max, plus uh double c qx. 95 likes all the stuff i want is there they can call whatever they want, and this is the last rumor that i know people disagree with me.
Um i’ve talked about it on the podcast that i host, but this next rumor it’s out there and it’s i it’s controversial, but apple’s clearly going that direction. Let’S talk about an iphone that don’t have no ports. Okay, i get how i said that um. I think it’s coming, i wasn’t sure apple was going to pull it off. Well, they were going to do sort of the smart connector we’ve seen with the ipad pro the three magnetic pins on the back, but then we got magsafe and that just sort of puts all the pieces together.
So right now the magsafe disk is for charging and it does faster charging and reactions to magsafe were mixed at first, but i feel, like people are kind of coming around to it. Its biggest complaint is the magnets. Aren’T as strong as people wanted, and new reports suggested apple was putting stronger magnets in the iphone 13, so it seems like they’re, quote sticking with magshape charging for a while. I can’t see how that couldn’t be possible for data transfer.
As well over that magsafe connection, certainly, i think apple would never do a connector like that. If it couldn’t ultimately do data, and if it’s going to be able to transfer data, people can still plug their phone into their computer for backups and whatever else they want to do. I think apple could very easily go portless and magsafe’s kind of trojan horse to get it there to get us to that portless phone there sort of begs the question: could apple do kind of an iphone 10 type thing remember that came out when the iphone 8 Was out, it was sort of a flagship, something that was really different, that the rest of the iphones ultimately ended up adopting. Maybe they do the whole 12 s line and maybe there’s an iphone 14 that is portless.
They announced this year at a higher price point, whether it’s going to be this year or next year. I do think it’s time for us to get ready at least mentally, to embrace our portless overlords all right. So i don’t know whatever apple calls. Our next phone um a couple things should be true: it’s going to look similar and it’s gon na be the fastest phone ever and and probably take some sort of courage.
It’S crazy that we’re like almost halfway through the iphone 12 like year, life cycle, which is absurd as much as i’ve enjoyed in my iphone 12 pro mac. It’S hard not to look at it and be excited for what’s coming next. .
