Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “The Metamorphuses Project”.
Okay, so we are going to take a look at this spinning device here. This is called the metamorphosis project um, which at first glance it seems to look like just a spinning mirror, but i think actually what the idea is is that you are switching identities as you gaze into it, um, which is pretty neat. So it looks like one person stands on one end: another person stands on the other end and you have switches of facial features almost like a strobe light, which is really cool all right. So i this is uh the metamorphosis project and i am here with christina and alex alexandre all right so alex you created it so um. Can you explain explain to me: i mean it. We just took a look at it, so it looks like you’re switching bodies and faces like really quickly, depending on how much you crank the the wheel right.
Yes, that’s correct, just as fast as you go, the more you get the alternation back between yourself and the person from on the other side. So what was your inspiration for this? Well? Christina was my inspiration. We went camping and i brought a piece of see-through mirror for her to do her makeup and she wanted to know how the see-through mirror uh worked. So i shined a flashlight i held. I held the see-through between her face and my face, and i shined a flashlight like this back and forth, and it so happened that the mirror was equidistant from our face that it started. It started mapping our faces together, so that was the basis. The base concept for this installation that actually sounds a little creepy. Well, it was a great first date. It was your first date wow. That’S that’s! That’S a funny story that was cool so um.
Where are you based out of we’re in venice beach? Oh okay, yeah. I’Ve been down there, it’s a beautiful, beautiful sand and boardwalks yeah absolutely summer. We plan on taking it out, so more people on the boardwalk can check it out, just more people in our community.
We do a lot of art and music festivals with it. So we just try to bring it. The piece fits in everywhere we go and the people participate in are actually the art piece which makes it so beautiful.
So we try to take it out as many places as we can. That’S great, i mean it’s so you know it’s always. It’S always so much fun to not only to make a project but think about how others can use it.
Make it interactive, show how we can use it every day. It’S we. Never we never intended it for to be the smile machine. We just thought it was a cool idea and then now we realize we’re bringing so much joy and happiness to everyone.
