Playing with Makey Makey

Playing with Makey Makey

Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “Playing with Makey Makey”.
We are now beginning to approach uh, one of my favorite booths of maker faire bay area uh, which is the makey makey booth and uh. This was started up by some geeks from mit uh. I actually know one of them personally uh and it is a really really cool little piece of electronics. So, let’s see, if we can get in here, there’s already a crowd.

I don’t know: hey guys how you doing all right, just chilling yo here at the mickey makey booth hanging out rocking out awesome. So what do so? I don’t understand. There’S there’s bananas and and alligator clips like what could that possibly do i mean bananas and alligators alligators eat the bananas and that’s basically it awesome yeah, but it looks like those bananas are like much bigger than the alligator clips, but we won’t go into that.

But anyway, um so tell me what is the makey makey and what does it do so? The makey makey is a circuit that we based off the arduino, and the thing is, we believe everyone’s an inventor here and so um we’re hoping that as a tool for creative experience, this can help people explore their. You know inventive, uh nature and so how they do that is by taking the circuit and hooking it up to everyday objects, and we hope that they can repurpose the way they see objects. So this is a banana. It’S only for eating right. Oh no! Wait! You can do all sorts of cool stuff with it awesome, that’s great! So how did this begin? What was the genesis of this project? So my brother jay silver and his business partner, eric at mit, worked to create this and they were really interested in um, just kind of interactive media, and then they wanted to see what it meant to have um. You know uh resistive circuitry go through your body and what did it? How personal does it make make the whole situation when you’re, actually a part of the circuit, wait a second electricity going through your body? That’S what’s happening right here.

Isn’T that dangerous? It looks like he’s. Okay, i don’t know so it’s all right, so we haven’t lost one yet awesome very good. Maybe you might have lost a few. Bananas, though, is that um there have been a few bananas.

We are a harm, banana-free uh business, though so all our bananas recycle into banana bread. We believe that’s great yeah. If you squish the banana, you can make it into banana bread. I love it. That’S awesome! So can i can i try this out? Ah, yes, you can all right. So what do i have to do? Okay, so place one hand here on the ground and then place your other hand i’ll hold your mic for you, okay, so let’s see awesome cool all right all right, so that was that was a lot of fun. So now now i i think we should should we jam out. Do you want to you want to jam out with me? Oh, we should definitely rock out.

Can i reprogram this for a second okay he’s going to reprogram ram it like that? Okay, so um? Let’S see we’re going to what’s your name by the way: beau, silver, blue silver – and what’s your name, what’s up, i’m carly rachel silver, all right nice to meet you all, so you came all the way from uh from the east coast, huh from massachusetts, santa cruz. We got we, we are relocated to santa cruz. Now, oh, i was gon na say. Santa cruz is not where mit is that’s kind of weird, okay, okay, all right! So we’re! Oh! Is that like dubstepping a little bit, it’s got like a drummy guy or a piano guy? Oh wait! I think we should do drums.

We should we should do drums yeah. That would be. That would be super cool. What do you think should we should we play um for drums all right drums all right drums are, i think i think drums it’s going to be um.

So, as you can see here, it has like it. Has this really cool modular sort of open design, which means that you can you can connect whatever you want to it right i mean. Has anybody like really built out like crazy arrays of things with this uh dog piano is pretty amazing and uh? You know people do all sorts of kinds of things: yeah dog piano. I love it.

Here’S a good way of demoing it if i could have a few people step forward and uh if yeah. If you touch this banana with one hand and put your other hand up in the air like this, mickey mickey mickey mickey mickey maker faire chillin with make magazine, you want to rock it yeah. Okay, you put you put your hand there, and now you high-five them, and you got it: okay, ready, oh yeah, all right! That was pretty cool. Oh thank you very much.

That’S an awesome piece of electronics and awesome uh time as well. Did you guys have fun? It was awesome, good, very good, all right! Well, it was very nice meeting you all and we hope to see you later at maker faire. All right see ya. .
