DiResta: One Year Anniversary Special

Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “DiResta: One Year Anniversary Special”.
Hi, i’m jimmy deresta and to mark the one year anniversary of my videos here at make magazine. The editors asked me to describe my five favorite videos of the last year, but before i describe my five favorite videos, i would like to thank everybody at make magazine for making it possible for me to bring my videos to the world. I had started my series on my own channel and the people at make magazine saw that and they invited me to make exclusive videos for them twice a month. And so far it’s been one year and i’m very happy that i’m able to show my talents to the world and to inspire.

I get lots and lots of great positive comments and private emails from my fans and the maker community and i’m very happy to inspire, and for that i want to say thank you all very much. The one thing i love about the star key is: when people ask me: what do you do? I say i make things and they say well what do you make and i reach in my pocket and i show them my star key and it’s like carrying around a little piece of artwork with me and it’s a good example of what i do. It’S something i came up with many years ago. I don’t know if i’m the only person in the world to come up with it, but so far it’s the only one i’ve ever seen. I have always been intrigued and interested in locks and keys. Obviously, and whenever i’m out hunting for junk – and i find an old padlock or an old door lock or that’s a rim lock the one that i worked on, i’m always interested in trying to figure it out. Reverse engineer the the key itself and that’s why i like that video. It’S a good example of what i really like doing every time i stop and think and try to invent something or i’m working through a problem. I picture the image of the thinker and it’s something that first came to me.

I guess when i was in art school in the 80s and it’s an image that has stayed with me and now here i am in july, walking through a junk shop in alabama and there’s a little sculpture of the thinker. Well, it’s amazing that this is here in the pile of junk. That’S just so i took it. The woman said it was only a dollar and so an image that i always had when i thought of the thinker was a light bulb over his head, and so that’s why i made that lamp sort of a sight gag, and i just wanted to show a Few techniques about making a rubber mold and, in that case a very complicated mold because of all the undercuts of his arms and such, but i was able to pull him out of the mold and make a few lamps a lot of times.

I edit myself, when i’m thinking of what a video could be, and i think to myself. That’S too simple, or it’s repetitive, or it’s something i’ve done before, but by making the moose antlers and showing all these different techniques, which i didn’t think of until i got into it. It just goes to show me as an example. Even the simplest thing could actually be interesting and the moose handlers themselves are something i’ve had sitting around for 10 years and i sort of reinvented them now they’re hanging on the wall. So i’m excited about that. A real, simple slab of wood, this slab of wood was only 20 bucks and the steel was about another 20 dollars.

You can make a nice piece of furniture with high-perceived value and with not too much work. So thank you for watching and thank you all for the positive comments they keep me motivated and they keep me moving forward. Thank you all very much. .
