Lori Melichar and Jose Gomez Marquez at World Maker Faire New York 2013

Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “Lori Melichar and Jose Gomez Marquez at World Maker Faire New York 2013”.
So i work at the robert wood johnson foundation and partner with jose who works for the lab at mit and we’re working together to try to find maker nurses across the country, support them and figure out ways that we can support their ingenuity. At first, we started to develop devices that people could use and then, through our work in in our lab in a developing world, for instance, we started to notice that people were modifying their own devices and that is very much a diy effect and that’s transitioned. Our lab a focus into instead of designing the end solution. How do we design construction sets that are hackable so that the maker movement can take it up? There’S no reason why we should be able to have to spend 200 on a scale that sends your readings to twitter when that can be done with a 19 dollar scale and a you know: 35 raspberry pi with a camera and then even at the extreme level Of other invasive devices, we’ve seen lots of examples both in surgical innovation and in diagnostic innovation, where it’s actually just been healthcare practitioners in their garage tinkering until they get it right and then introducing a more safe clinical trial to see if, if it’s the most appropriate Invention anyone who wants to learn more about the program um, who is a maker nurse themselves or knows of nurses who are maker, nurses, should visit makerners.org and there’s an email there. You can contact us and we’ll keep you abreast of our developing .
